So, I just finished removing the floor, I'm left with (among others) that to fix before installing the new one. Can I just cut the rot and have a welder patch it with something based on steel angle ? How else ?

There are many very good ones, but I would start with these two:

Got the the whole pan + outer rockers from them already. My main concern was if there was a cheaper / easier way to do that repair, hopefully that doesn't involve removing 4 more metal parts from the car.

Repair it properly or don’t waste the time on this chassis. There is nothing left there to weld to.

Someone’s life may depend on that seatbelt attachment and there is no structure left at that attachment.

Similarly the main structure of the car is dependent on the longitudinal and there’s not much left there.

Yeah, I'm not looking at putting lipstick on a pig neither, like the previous owner did with the epoxy on the floor. I'm not looking at simply welding over it, I will rebuild the whole section, I was hoping to avoid removing the door threshold, the inner rocker, part of the rear body (especially that) and the wheel house to fix it.

Guess I'll start digging tonight to see how bad it is.

I would seriously be looking for another tub. That chassis is too far gone. If the long is that far gone what does the rest of the car look like that you can't see? You can not resurrect the dead.

I wouldn't necessarily agree, we have seen much worse. If thats the worst of it, I would go after it correctly, will probably involve a couple hand made shapes, but will then be good for another 1/2 century.

The question to ask is why try to make any of that by hand. All the metal is readily available and will be far stronger than hand made patch panels welded to already compromised metal.

I’ve been in this exact same position. For OP, link to my personal restoration in my signature.

As far as I can tell it's indeed the absolute worst part of the car. The passenger door was sagging about 1/4", I jacked it to straighten, before adding braces in the door mounts to keep it straight.

not bad at all, you can buy an inner real longitudinal piece and use some of it to repair if you do not want to make a replacement piece

I’m just saying you don’t see rust like that and just need one replacement panel to make it all right.

I'd say it doesn't look nearly as bad past that point. There was a puddle of water soaking in the rug under the passenger's seat about 3 weeks after I got it (no rain since purchase), my guess was that a bad door seal allowed water to get in and it rusted away in PO's parking lot for a couple years.
