I am looking for the triangle sized piece that screws on below the armrest for the passenger side door. I have a 1970 914...I'm not sure if all years were the same or if the earlier cars were different.
I would like to find one that is in solid shape, even if it needs to be recovered.

As far as I know (others can weigh in if I'm wrong)...
The earlier ones were made of a cardboard or fiberboard-like piece with vinyl covering. Later models had a piece that was fully plastic, but made to look like the vinyl covered early versions. Not sure when they switched...maybe '74.
The pictured one at the link on the samba is the plastic version. From what I have seen, the benefit of the later ones is the mounting holes don't get torn out, so it's probably easier to find those in good shape. However, if you want originality for your 1970 car (and in my opinion, a better look), you want to find a nice early one.
