Started tearing down my 2.7 for a rebuild, the cylinders are a combination of mahle and KS. they're also Alusil and not in very good shape.
So, I'm looking for a GOOD used set, with nickasil cylinders and matched CIS pistons, or a reasonably priced new set.
2.7 with CIS.
Anyone got some laying around?
Thanks,
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
I have some 2.7 cis p/c's laying around.
I'll dig them out later today and look them over.
I'll take some pics of them too.
If you want pm me on this.
I also think I have a known good set. Let me know if you need to consider a second set and I will pull them for photos.
Thanks for the replies, Edited the first post, looking for a complete set with nickasil cylinders and matching CIS pistons.
My understanding is the alusil cylinders can't be reused, or honed.
Thanks,
Jeff
I have a set of P/C's for a 2.7 CIS. They are in great shape. PM me for photos if interested. I put a euro set in my engine.
I had a 928 block bored out from 4.7 to 5.0. The block is solid alusil. The trick is the pistons have to be made to run in alusil bores or they will gall the cylinders. Pistons for alusil bored have a special iron coating as I understand. (or some kind of surface treatment) My only option was 32 valve 928 pistons notched for 16 valve heads. Now the 911 may have piston options the 928 guys don't have due to popularity.
I rebuilt a 3.0 a few years back and they had the Alusil P/C's,...I did the ball honing method finished with a lite scotch brite pad ,...the rings must be for the Alusil's Cyl. and my engine and had great comp. and leak dwn numbers,... FM
Pics sent!
The alusil cylinders can be nikasil treated and honed for "normal" pistons.
Ask Len Hoffman.
I have found that out in my research, however I'm running CIS, I need CIS pistons.
Looks like I found a set, search is over. Thanks Bill.
Jeff
