914World.com _ FS/WTB: 914 Parts _ 914 Partial Bike or Whatever Rack

Posted by: RobW Sep 25 2014, 08:18 AM

914 Partial Bike Rack. It looks like two plates install on each side of the targa bar which you may be able to use to mount something across the car.

This would be a great platform for a GoPro camera or a full rack not bolted to your roof.

Possibilities are endless... impress your 914 friends.. But don't put your vintage 10 speed on it until you find the trunk side hardware per TomT.

Rob,

Those are 914 Bike Carriers with the slots for the handlebars & there were also straps to them to secure the bike handlebars. <Correction - they were hooked bolts with nuts & washers to hold down the handlebars - not straps - & went in the hole in the flat cross plate between the 2 uprights with the handlebar slots.> Mine doesn't have the extra flat plate with the 3 holes, but I'd guess it's a spacer plate of some sort (mine never needed them).

There were also 2 "C" shaped plates with slots for straps to secure the bike seats, & rubber pads glued to the inside to cushion the rear deck lid where they slipped over the outside edges (2 plates - L & R for 2 bikes). If you can't find yours, then they could be fab'ed & PC'd or painted by somebody from the originals as a pattern.

Do a search on here or at Bowlsby's site for pix of my carrier, box & installation intructions. My rack is buried in the boxes in my garage & my saved links on here were lost when Sir Andy deleted everyone's saved topics a year or so ago, and my laptoip's HDD crashed with its bookmearks & I haven't restored the pix files to it yet. Sorry.

I'll bet your Dad used to use them for his bike(s) on his 914 back in the day - as I did with mine! biggrin.gif

They should sell better as a bike rack!

BTW - IIRC my set cost me $50-60 in the late 1970's!!

Good Luck! beerchug.gif
