914World.com _ FS/WTB: 914 Parts _ WTB: Steering Column part

Posted by: florida 914 Jan 11 2015, 11:47 AM

Hi, folks. I have a 76 914. The steering column has a lot of play back and forth (side to side, not turning the wheel); the horn also honks when it moves around. I finally realized that there is a part missing in the assembly, a tube or sleeve of sorts. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I have another car but do not want to take it apart to take a picture of the missing part unless necessary. Thanks.

You may want to consider replacing the column assembly. It would probably be easier to swap the column than replace individual parts. Disassembling the column can be done but it is a chore.

It sounds like it might the the shim that slips in the cloumn shaft. It looks similar to the shim for the stock 914 shift knob.
I have some at CAMP 914.
