I have two 914 early chrome front bumpers for sale. I do not know the history on them, as I received them from my dad. But I believe they were removed to do a bumper conversion on an early car.

The first is absolutely near perfect condition and the chrome looks like it never saw any road use. Asking price is $650 plus shipping.

The second is very good condition and a very almost unnoticeable dent that would be covered by the top rubber cover. Also, the dent could easily be knocked out with a rubber mallet. The bumper has one other very small dent on the front. Other that what was mentioned it does not have any other dents or road damage, the chrome could use a good polish though. Asking price is $500 plus shipping.

I may be interested in #1 - but IF it truly is perfect!

I suggest that you take some time to actually clean up & polish both bumpers to show off their true condition, cuz they don't show well as they are now, & then do some better hi-rez pix so we can see what they look like.

Also #1 has obviously been used, cuz you can see the dimple at the right license plate mounting hole from the screw, & you can see the outlines of the washers or backs of the front bumper guards "tits" at all 4 mounting holes inboard of the fog light cut-outs, etc. Not bad, I'm just sayin'!.....

Also, these were only on the 73 & 74 "titted" 914s, since many equate the "early bumpers" to the 70-72 "titless" flavor.

Thanx & please PM me if/when you have better pix of the cleaned-up #1 (i.e.: when you get time with work & all).

Early front bumpers didn't have tit holes.

Okay - mine is a 73 & needs the tit holes - so I'm next, but I do need to see more & better pix of that #1 cleaned up, cuz that's way too much for a core that needs to be concours level triple rechromed for another $800-1000+!!

Ottherwise, if not concours quality you might reconsider your price as a very nice DD quality.

In either case, you should revise your ad title to 73-74 Chrome Front Bumpers - from early ones - so you don't confuse people needing or wanting the 70-72 ones with no tit holes.



PS - FYI, my son is posted at Ft Carson/Colo Springs not far from you, so there'd be no shipping involved, as he'd just pick it up for me & drive it here the next time he comes home on leave.

Unfortunately he's neither a 914 guy nor a perfectionist CW, so he can't look at them & tell me if they're CW level!

So I need to see them cleaned up in hi-rez pix! :shades2

Damn, had me excited there for a minute. I need a chrome front bumper for a '70, and I like 'tits' as much as the next guy, but these won't work for me.

When you list bumpers as "Early" We all get wound up !

I have been looking for a really good early front bumper for years !

Ill take two if you have them !

And I don't want a stainless steel repop...

Hey 'T' would be glad to do it..re a face to face with the bumper..
if he would not mind meeting me with the bump at my place in Centennial..
also if you 2 sqr up on a price..I could get it down to Fountain soon as my Ft Carson boy gets in from Liberia quarantine soon..about a week.....also have a really nice 73 -74 bump to measure it against..Thanx Rx

Not my "pretzel" bumper Rick, it was pushed in too much when that gal pushed the 914 into the wall & column back in 85, to get a clean straightening!

And due to the CalEPA et al, it runs about $800-1000 to do just the concours/show quality rechrome on a very straight & clean core.

However, if this guy can't be bothered to even clean the splatter & dribbles + dust & dirt off them, it may not be worth my pursuing any further!

Lotsa "core" 914 73-74 Bumpers + Bruce's stuff etc. here in Sunny SoCal!!!!

IIRC sending it out of state & the cheaper costs there may make sense, but then I can't check it in between plating levels for flaws - especially that they get the initial copper layers baby's bum smooth!

Soooo......?????

Hey Thanx Rx!!

If this guy ever looks at his ad again & does anything worth pursuing it, then I'll take you up on that very kind offer! I'm not holding my breath, & as Rick & a couple of others have pointed out on here - he's probably overly aggressive on his price, so who knows!?

Also, my son has wheels - that red 88 Honda Civic DX that we did a rolling semi-resto/refurb on in 08-09 which I posted in here back in 2009-10-ish.

So he can probably get up there to meet you on a weekend to & give your son a lift home if he needs it!

This is also a funny quinky-dink - being the 2nd 914world Teener who had links to his post! Last one was Andy - Scarlet914 up at Ft. Drum NY!

Southern California guys, check out the Bumper Shop in Los Angeles. We had a group buy a few years back and I had a set of bumpers repaired (rips and holes welded up), straightened and chromed for $650.

Maybe you guys can organize another group buy

Agreed, any kind of chrome polish you might recommend? I do not want to do more harm than good.

Just try cleaning them up first with microfiber or soft cloths, terry towels in order to see what they really look like without the dust/dirt layer.

Look for pitting & starter surface rust around all the crevices, holes & where parts join together, & in the insets for the fog lights (#1 looks like it might have some there. Take clearer pix of what you find of that close look & post them as "before" pix here in your advert.

Then you can polish lightly - again using soft cloths - with any low abrasion chrome or metal polish you have access to. I understand Chuck that you're a 911 guy mostly, so you may want to get P21 or your favorite Porsche recco's product line version, so that you can use it on your other cars too.

What I use is from my old 1970's-80's stash, so not readily available in the auto stores, etc., but they still sell similar products.

TCsGarage.com sell P21 products, but there are other closer CO sources & other manufacturers out there too. Tom Gould of TC's used to own Pelican Parts, which everyone in Porsche-land knows.

Our PCA Zone 8 Concours webpage has a technique article about polishing wheels linked a bit down in the right column of documents, if you want further guidance on "how to" - & the Pelican website has some more tech articles.

Then take some more hi-rez "after" pix & post them on here.

Then we can all better judge if they are 8-of-10, 6-of-10, 10-of-10 & if the prices match the quality.

To your benefit in doing all this, is that you'll get the top dollar true value for them - whatever they turn out to be worth in the end!

Think of it as if you were selling an entire car - or better still, buying one - you'd want to see everything cleaned up & shiny - not with crumbs & trash on the floor, dirt & spills all over the car etc. You as buyer, or others as same - just would not value that car very highly, & probably would assume that the owner/seller just didn't care enough about te car to bother with taking care of it, doing services & just left a lot of deferred maintenance.

Otherwise, IMHO folks will just offer $100-200 at most for them as cores or basic DD parts.
