Hello Everyone- I have a Blaupunkt Frankfurt for my car but I do not have the correct plate for the dash to install the radio. I need it to match this dash material
Please let me know if you have a very nice one you can part with.
Thanks,
Michael
Post a picture of the front, that will help everyone.
Here is what I am looking for- it is just the flat plate with the black dash material on it. (I already have the radio )
I know someone has one of these collecting dust....
Michael - you can also check over on TheSamba Porsche section for these odds-n-ends types of parts.
The "official" 914 faceplate supplied with the radio would've been in molded plastic (where's Mikey914 when you need him!? ;-) so look for that if you're doing serious AACA/etc. concours & PCA Parade where originality counts.
You can also get the roll of basketweave black dash material from Sierra Madre & others, then cut & adher to the metal faceplate if you have one (IIRC you had a dealer prep'd one with smooth leatherette on metal plate). If the dealer did a metal plate with vinyl on the original install - or you want to use that "story" - then you're still probably okay for Parade/other orignality checks.
Good Luck!
Tom

Hi Tom:
No, I had some kind of aftermarket new fangled radio in the car when I bought it. But I will check over on the Samba- good idea.
Let me see if I have it. We just bought 5 more parts cars that we will pick up this weekend. I can look for the plate with the correct weave.
I would really appreciate that Steve. Thanks, Michael
AA has the plates, then you cover it with dash material.
I checked AA and saw a picture of one.....maybe it was just a really really bad one....but it was bad enough in appearance I would not install it if it were free unfortunately. But I do appreciate the idea.
I have some that I had laser cut, and I have material. You'll have to glue it on yourself though.
I will check and see what I got. There is a difference depending on which chrome trim piece you use. The picture you posted was one of my radios and that trim piece installs from the front, which trim piece are you using? Picture below shows a different trim piece that pushes through the cutout in the dash trim/faceplate and the hole cutout needs to be a little bigger.
Here is my actual radio. So it appears I need the faceplate where the radio pushes through the faceplate, no?
Your radio is complete. Center hole needs to be big enough for the chrome surround to fit through.
OK- at least that is good news. Thanks Mark.
Sorry only faceplate I have is for the chrome trim that mounts from the front and opening is too small for the push through one.
Cairo ? Michael ?
The correct dash plate for that radio is basket weave material over sheet metal that has factory holes for shafts and dial. It is not molded plastic.
The picture in post # 3 is the right one.
The original had strips of double face foam tape around the perimeter of the back to attach it to the dash.
You will also need the "U" shape bracket that supports the rear of the radio.
Your next challenge is to find a correct antenna and antenna support for under the drivers front fender.
Need pictures ?
Rory
I believe the correct face plate for my radio is the flat sheet metal with the basketweave material glued to it and the opening to allow the radio to fit through it. I believe I have now secured the correct piece thanks to Sixnotfour.
Plastic faceplate is for install of the Motorola Sapphire radio which would have been installed at the dealer. If Blaupunkt or Becker radio was installed then the sheet metal with basket weave material was used.
I have the AA one in my car and it was perfect. You have your choice of weaves so it matches.
I have a NOS correct faceplate on its way to me- thanks Jeff (Sixnotfour).
just to be sure its the right one.....
