I'd like them to be in good condition. Doesn't need to have all valve gear show me what you have.

You can also use heads from a 76 2.0, or, any 2.0 if you don't have the injection port heads. You can also eliminate the egr tubes.

Yea I was thinking of eliminating all that stuff during the course of this project. Are there any other unforeseen consequences of doing so?

Have you seen these?

The extra cost might be worth the new castings?

I have 2 spare sets. I don't know what year let me check this weekend. I'm not sure which I'd sell.

I sent you a PM. I will post pictures here also later this afternoon.

I happen to have one 75-76 head. The PO plugged the air holes, but they can probably be drilled out. PM me if interested. You can also see one of the exhaust stud threads are stripped as well as the CHT insert.

Those would be 1.7L heads, he is looking for 2.0L heads. The part number for 2.0L heads starts with "039"

Thanks guys, I may have to move this thread over to the garage but I have a few questions for the crowd.

1) can I repair the head I have? The spark plug popped out of the hole and sheared off the threads in the process. I tried to drill new threads and use an insert but my drill locked up on the way out and now I think I have also stripped the threads I recut.

I have contacted a local machine shop that works primarily on VW heads. They said they would likely be able to fix the head I have. Is this a viable option?

If not;

2)can I replace just one head?

3)If I can do this, what should I be looking for in a usable head? So far I have just wanted to see all valve gear, no cracks and all threads intact. Should I be worried about installing a bad head, or weak or one with worn valves stem or tips?

Thanks
