914World.com _ FS/WTB: 914 Parts _ WTB: Taco plate and taco plate cover for oil temp sender
Posted by: Mr Beckstar May 7 2018, 06:36 AM
G’day from down under. My first post on here and I’m trying to do the right thing but it’s a bit different so not sure if I’m stuffing it up. I’m sure someone will let me know though :-)
I’m looking far and wide for the taco plate that accommodates the oil temperature sensor in the sump of the 2L engine. And also the associated parts such as the cover and perhaps the crush washers if you’ve got new ones of those. I’m not so worried about the sensor itself. Are there any out there in good condition?

Thanks Fosterjoejr, looks very useful. 914werke lists a kit for $85 including seals and cover but unfortunately it’s out of stock. I’ve sent 914werke a message

Thanks JFG but them buses don’t have an oil temperature gauge standard. Boatyard buses have some good looking custom taco plates with temp sender drilling for a good price, but I’m looking for original parts not custom. Also, without being recessed with a cover I think the sender will give too cool readings. Not that I’m expecting it to read highly accurate temperatures, but it’s good to start in the right place.

Check out this thread. it lists the parts for the complete assembly with part numbers. The taco plate, sender, gasket, and crush washer are still available new if you can't find it used.

Hmmm no reply from 914werke after a couple of days. Guess I’ll give them a ring.

perhaps I could interest you in this package. base, sender, cover piece and the elusive factory wire. clean parts, NOT needing a bunch of rust to contend with. you may run the wire as the factory intended. behind the fan shroud. a new gasket will be required.
you'll need to note the portion of my signature that's in red caps.

Yes, signature in red caps noted.
I'm interested. I'll send a PM

Received the taco plate and cover today. Thanks Kevin, I’m a very happy camper and so is Harry

Pleased I could be of help. You'll have to pull the fan shroud to access the studs to run the wire 'factory style'.

Yes, I’ve got a couple of other reasons to do that too. One is that one of the small gravity controlled lower flaps on the fan housing that feeds to the heater box is not working properly.
