Nice radio in good working condition. This comes with a hard plastic mounting plate for the dash. Not sure what years it will fit, but didn't fit my 1970 914.

Is the transformer (red) hitting something? Did you loosen the back mounting bracket? No reason for this radio not fitting.

It wasn't that. The face plate wasn't right for the early dash when I tried to install it, and the opening in the radio plate in the old dash wasn't right.
