WTB: Looking for a clean no rust tub; with no metal work required, with or without - doors, trunk lids, engine cover, etc. A young woman texting while speeding crashed into my car apparently over correcting while attempting to pass me on my left, impacting the passenger door and rear quarter panel and buckling the trailing arm. Probably repairable but may not be close to original spec dimensions/fitments etc to suit my standards. I have good insurance which may allow some options.
One option is to buy a good tub and transfer all my good bolt on parts. Preferably there is a good solid no rust tub available in Southwest US area primed or ready for prime/paint. I know this maybe a "long shot".
Sorry about the hit. Glad you are ok. There was a red painted chassis for sale a couple months ago. I don’t remember if it sold. Around $7k. If I had the most ego would have purchased.
Edit - money, not most ego.
If you don't find a suitable tub try the Metal Surgeon for repairs. Their work is excellent. They can fix almost anything.

thanks but I am in S.Cal.
Oh cripes.
I may have one for you here in OC.
Sorry to read about your accident Keith. I just sold my 74 to a great guy in Illinois or it would have been a great candidate for you. I'll keep my eyes open for any viable chassis.
Damn what an unfortunate fate for a well sorted car.
Come to the shop and look at Frankencarcass for the rear quarter section that you need. I've also got a right rear trailing arm in storage for you if you want.. Hopefully only it took the brunt of the collision.
Very glad you are okay.
Keith,
As we are in So CA with more Porsche body shop that any place in the USA I believe you can find a great shop to fix it as good as before the accident. You may want to move this to the 914 World Garage so we can all be reading what happened and how it is getting fixed.
The Shop that is doing Cairo’s 6 and did Andy’s 6 is as good as they come and it is local to you.
The work to repaint and move all the parts off will not only cost you more but I think it would take longer. Your car does not look that bad in the picture you have shown.
What insurance co do you have?
Good luck,
Bob B
Once you have a chance to review your options you will realize it will be far better to repair your car than try to move everything over to another car.
You will be way ahead to bring it to Torrance, CA / Kent Simmons (914350 here on the forum).
Very sorry it happened but the car is very repairable.
Keith, 100% in agreement with Rick. Reach out to Kent. Michaels (Cairo’s) car should be rolling out of there shortly. I know how you feel about that car, and Kent is a perfectionist. You’ve seen his work...
Sorry to hear (& see) about your unfortunate incident, Keith.
When are the 'powers that be' going to put enough teeth into the texting while driving laws to make people think twice before doing it?
Sorry Keith for what happened to your car. After all the time spent working on your car and just a glimpse your car will just be ruined by a txting driver. My boxster was rear ended 2 weeks ago which I believe was on her phone too. Now collision shop estimated around $15k to fix it.
Good you’re okay Keith! And yes Kent can easily fix your car except your insurance could consider it Totalled and pay you the current value of your car and if you fix it, you will end up having a salvage title. And that is what you will not want!
Exellence magazine just up dated their market value. Don't know if you subscribe but get a copy in case you need to defend the value against a total loss determination.
Thanks all of you fellows for your helpful comments.
Considering a tub option is just that, an option, as I agree that it is more likely I will get it fixed. However, after careful inspection with Steve914's assistance, I am concerned that the targa area behind the passenger seat appears to have been "pulled" down just enough to cause the engine lid to now be above/off the adjustable pads on both sides by about 1/8" or so - before it was sitting snuggly on them. Perhaps it will spring back up when the lower damaged quarter panel is straightened or removed (?)
I have had Art's Place in Costa Mesa do body work for me in the recent past which was excellent, and he is one I will be visiting tomorrow for a quote. Rick 918-S, I am not too handy navigating on this site - perhaps you could send me Kent Simmon's contact info.
Art will give you good appraisal of the work; he's the only shop I trust to do things right and in a TIMELY manner....
Good thing you are OK. It hurts to see a treasured 914 get thumped like that, but it's fixable or replaceable, while you are not.
Never a bad idea to explore all your options.
Thanks again for all of your expressions of concern for me and the car, along with help on what to do. In that light, I will start a new thread in the Garage section tomorrow as I move onto "Recovering My Ride".
Bummer about the car. It was definetly one of the most nicest sorted car out there, but what’s most important is that your alright. I forgot about Kent. I would definetly trust him to fix your car. I’ve seen what he’s Restored before.
That panel, door and trailing arm and you should be set.
Super happy she can be saved
With the help of the exploded diagram view from Steve914 above, I have located all of the used parts required to fix my car, original parts removed by drilling out spot and other small welds to be welded on my car close to original, from Vince at Porscheaddic donor car bodies.
Will now move my progress reports to Garage section. Again, thanks for all the concern and suggestions - I am now on the right track to having my car back close to original.
