914World.com _ FS/WTB: 914 Parts _ WTB - engine to replace 2056

Posted by: ptravnic Jun 10 2019, 02:54 PM

Hi All - it's been a looong time since I posted here. Had the car out for a drive this weekend and left a trail of oil on the highway and have zero compression. Looks like I'm shopping for a new engine.

I've left a msg with Mark (Original Customs) in Grand Rapids. Awaiting his reply and curious about other options.

Looking forward to hearing ppl's thoughts/opinions.

Don't ask for thoughts and opinions. Oof. You'll get a snoot full.

New engine or rebuild. Maybe time to upgrade?

You are in good hands with McMark.

"new" is somewhat relative. Looking for different options is all, and not all that inclined to be taking it apart/doing much/any of the work myself anymore.

Will be speaking with Mark shortly. Seems like a solid path given Grand Rapids isn't all that far from where I live...

+1 for McMark. Also start asking around to find guys who are converting to a six. Ask the builders - McMark, Tangerine racing, PMB, etc and a WTB on this site.

Staying aircooled or not is really the only decision you
Need to make .... If staying air cooled . engines are floating around most sub 100hp

If you pump water .... I suggest sleeper route with n-a subaru motor .....
(I would love to go that route but i dont have that kinda coin to completely re-enginerre my car )

I have a 2.0 w/ 1.8 heads
Supposedly rebuilt per the PO
Looked inside with a bore scope and pistons look shiny

$1k strapped to a pallet, you figure out how to ship

I have most of the parts I need to build a 2.0L , 2056. 1.7 or 1.8 or 1911. I have a set of NEW in BOX heads built for the 914 store by Len Hoffman. They are built with 2.0 valves but with a 1.7/1.8 spark location. They are not Chinese heads. If interested email me or call. Al ljgmere@aol.com or 770-616-3767.

I have a 3.2 that I was going to install in a SC but are going to stay with the engine in it. Let me know if you are interested.

Many thanks for the options, fellas. I'm planning to flat tow the car to Mark in Grand Rapids in a few weeks and will know more once he gets a look, starts taking things apart, etc.

More to follow.
