We have one horn but the other is dead. We cannot tell the HZ of the existing horn, so we would like to buy a matching pair.

I have a small bucket of tested horns. Half were dead. I have heard they can be repaired but I have not tried it.
The HZ is usually heat stamped into the plastic base. 300 and 335 hz is I remember correctly. Not sure it makes a big deal. I think some late cars only had one horn.
The earliest horns has screw on front covers.

Thanks Bruce, I am not sure if the horn is stock because it is all metal, but manufactured by Hella.

Look on Ebay. All the Hella stuff is made in India. Since they are under the front pan, marking will be out of sign. No German horns in years.

only 75-76. Because of the big bumpers and the way they are mounted to the 75-76 cars there is no room for the horns. The older style horns will direct the sound downward hence the difference in the 75-76 style facing the sound forward.
Again not saying the older style work, a horn is a horn.

My '75 did not have directional horns like that and by all accounts everything was stock on my car before I got it in '84. the one on mine look like the round ones in the first pic posted.

I have owned 10 Porsches (circa '75 & '76) and
have NEVER seen the "point forward" HORNS on
any of them.
As a matter of fact, I have never seen a "point
forward" HORN in my life, period.

Fair enough, but every and I mean every 75 /76 I have parted (18 of them) had the exact same style horn as I posted. Maybe they were all replaced at one time 
but all were mounted under the car, not behind the bumper.

Here is a picture he provided this morning...

Metal and slim. Smaller than the early '73 - '74 metal horns.
Slim so they do not scrape as they are one of the lowest
objects under the front end.
The plastic "point forward" would NOT last a day.

My 76 only has one. Driver's side. Identical to the one pictured just above. No provisions for a passenger side horn. No wiring for one.

From the info I have seen, a single horn was stock on all 914s. Dual horns were stock on the 914/6 and optional equipment as part of the Appearance Group [Comfort Equipment] on all other 914s. They were also available separately ordered optional equipment as M-572. http://bowlsby.net/914/Classic/OpEq.htm

our 73 and 75 cars have the Appearance package (AP). The 76 for sale on Sotheby's site looks like it has the AP components but one horn.
