914World.com _ FS/WTB: 914 Parts _ FS Heater J Tube block off plates for cars with out heat

Posted by: bdstone914 Apr 1 2020, 11:34 AM

Edit, Have ten more sets available.

I have seen many cars that deleted all of the heater parts and left the J tube holes in the tins open where the fan can suck hot air in.
I made these to cover the holes and look better than a paint cap stuffed in the hole.

I can supply them bare if you want to paint to a special tin color.
Had them made from .047" mild steel. Bent the tuck tabs by hand. Each set consists of two plates , 6mm socket head screws. washers and nuts.
Price is $27.50 per set shipped.
PMs will be sent to those who replied to this thread.

I have seen many cars tha deleted all of the heater parts and left the J tube holes in the tins open where the fan can suck hot air in.
I think I could makes these fairly inexpensively. Price would be $20-$25 a pair.
They would be powder coated black and attach thru the hole in the tin that is for the J tube attachment screw.

I'd be interested.

At that price, I'd take a set to put on the shelf. I'm in for one.

I think a better solution is something like this. These could be powder coated or maybe could even be found already black. Even some plastics could be acceptable - the factory J-tube delete cap on the passenger side is a polyethylene plastic.

Good idea but I do not find that type of metal cap plug available in sizes over 2". Larger plastic plugs are available but the only ones I found were bright green. Also the clearance to the vertical wall on the cylinder tin is only 3mm so the head may hit.
One issue I see is that most tins are bent up and the plate may not sit flat.

I'm definitely in for a set.

Posted by: Jim C Apr 2 2020, 07:58 AM

I found some 3" flat black plastic plugs on Amazon which, along with some black RTV, covers the holes. For how long I don't know. I am certainly open to a more permanent solution.

Not quite sure how the 914 heater hose sizing compares to a 911, but will these fit an early 911? Or do you make something like this for them?

I think the 911 hole size is the same as the 914. Depending on what tin you have there may be a lip around the hole that may interfere.
I have unpainted blanks. I can probably form a set to work but would need to know the sixe of the lip.
Can you post a picture of that area of the 911 tin.
