914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Paint gun air pressure question

Quick question

When the recommended air pressure for the gun (Devilbiss GFG) is 30psi, is that:

a. Pressure at the gun - static or,

b. Pressure at the gun with the trigger down?

I've noticed in order to get 30 psi with the trigger down, static pressure is around 45psi.

Thanks,
Nate

I set it with the trigger down. The best air pressure will depend on the thickness of the paint. Adjust up or down until it flows right.

Then it's settled. Thanks.

Yep set it with the trigger down. I am using a small compressor and there is a 15psi drop when the trigger is depressed.

Also, CFM is one of the most important ratings when using a spray gun.

Sipon feed guns require about 19cfm in volume to keep a consistant pattern. If your running a small compressor you will really need to become one with your paint gun. You will need to use all your senses to keep any consistancy. BTW: I never look at the gauge. I test the gun and watch the pattern and listen to the sound of the air though the fluid tip. ninja.gif
