914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Powder Coating Decel / AAR valves

Posted by: jim_hoyland Oct 18 2009, 02:12 PM

Will powdercoating a decel valve cause the diaphram inside to distort from the heating process ??

Anyone powdercoated these ?

I would think there is some sort of elastomer inside the valve. Maybe someone here has taken one apart. Heat from powder coating will probably destroy any soft parts inside. Why take a chance? Why not just paint it?

Just paint it.

Painting is definately easier; all the engine tin is powdercoated in silver sparkle and finding a paint to match the powdercoating is difficult.

So...I was looking for someone who has tried having them powdercoated smile.gif

IIRC, doesn't the AAR body act as a ground, so it needs metal contact. Painting or powdercoating it needs to take that into consideration.

It takes 400 degrees to powder coat.
