Of the 400+ cars available in game there are several Porsches but more importantly, there is a 914/6
For those not familiar with the game, you can upgrade the car with suspension, brakes, drivetrain, tires, etc, etc. Can even paint them any color and add vinyl for stripes, sponsors, graphics, etc. I added the hood stripes and PORSCHE text on the car in the pictures below.

If anyone here has an Xbox and FM3, send a Friend Request to STEMISCH and we can go race on some truly awesome tracks.

Looks like I am getting a new game tomorrow!!!! Sweet. We primarily play Halo3, but this will be a great addition. You will be getting my friend request.

Can the 914/6 be modified to GT spec's?

Flared fenders?
Bigger wheels/tires? ... less oversteer?

In Forza Motorsport 2, I was never able to specify staggered wheel/tires.

Well just got e-mail from Mr.McCrory, Microsoft Game Studios..Forza is the game and i will be sent a copy and some of the pictures they took here in Seattle two years ago.I have been holding the secret for that long....All the demensions of the 914-6 in that game where taken from my car over 1800 pictures and video as well ..I was also told my name would be in the credits,dont have my copy yet so i dont know ...he said it would be exactly like me car but i dont have euro linses? .....so heres the story! went to a car show at the triplex in a town just outside Seattle and i young man walks up and say is this your car? why yes it is I reply.Well my name is jeff and i work for Microsoft and we are developing a new game and we would like to have a 914 in the game do you mind if we take a few shots..by all means help your self..he replys not here we need to set up a photo shot somewhere..so Im thinking ok this guy is full of it .he gives me his card and say i will call you, again this guys full of it ..week later phone rings,Hi remember me Jeff from microsoft when can we do the shot ...how about wednesday at Boeing field sure he says! i will have the car there at 3pm.He agrees ,3pm rolls around and up pulls and man on a Ducate monster with a back pack and a skate board strapped to it , not Jeff i think to myself ,and he walks up the the car and say Michael! yes hello ,Im here to take some pictures of your car Jeff is on his way ,,Wow this is really gonna happen ...so they lay out grid marks all around the car and a height stick with a scale on it and start shoting...they went over the car with a fine tooth comb and took pix of everything from the peddles to gauge cluster ,lites on, lites off, fog lites on then off doors open then shut lids open then shut it was amazing rulers on the gauges to get the proper size 1852 pix later and 25 minutes of video ...we are done Mr Crandall thanks for your time we will send you a copy and some prints if you like .....No BS fellas ..cant wait to get my copy too see if my name is in the credits

inside Looks good the gauge cluster looks correct and theres even the ashtray and has my steering wheel...Mr casto ..when you firt started the game was the car red ?? dont know where the got the euro lenses.....the hole idea of all the pix and measuring was to get it to scale and it looks like they did a nice job...and i dont have a antenna??...even the rearview mirror looks correct wipers on the correct side ....I have to say i think they got it right as they could for a video game

^^^ With time spent tuning it, I am sure you could get it to where it is at least driveable. No longer remains a handling car but a bullet. Top speed without tweaking anything was over 200mph.

OMG this is like 914 crack. I have been on this non stop for 8 hours. Unlike my other racing games, on easy mode, its super simple to rack up credits. I already have my Zambezi class A car, and a Signal Orange C class car. My goal is to have a teener for each class.

How do we upgrade the rocker panels? Would like to paint the same car color. I purchase NFS for the PC years ago, but could never get it to run properly. Thank god for the Xbox360. The graphics are no joke. You might think the commercials are glossy renditions, but they are the true gameplay scenery. It is stunning!

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!

You must have a steering wheel too? I use the controller, my driving is jerky, but effective. In FM2, looks like the car to build on is a project? I did fifure out the vynals last night and now have some cars with the color coded rockers and front an rear dams. I now also have 5 914s, one each in F,E,D,C and A classes.

I have way too much stuff to do for Halloween to even be messing with this, but I have been looking for a good 914 on a console platform for years! This far exceeds my expectations.

Since you know how to capture video, you should show the showroom of a car in your garage and how stunning the graphics are of the virtual spinning car. I have it with my new Cannon camera, in 1080 HD, but like I said, new and haven't mastered basic functions yet.

I had AWD on my class A car, but took it off since it didn't seem right, tiny bit of purist in me. Now I am super loose in the Class A races. So much power for such a light car, yet is now more realistic.

Yes, I have a Logitech steering wheel. Never used it much in FM2 but loving it in FM3. I have also turned off all assists except the brake line and am using manual shift. Once you get used to all that, the game is so much more fun.

The project 914 is a design I made up in FM2. I will probably make a similar design for FM3. Check out my storefront in the game - I have the PORSCHE side text available in Black and White in the vinyls section and a full car design inspired by Rothmans race livery.

I, too, will be trashing the AWD system. Just doesn't seem right.

What is your GT? I tried St33lerchief but says it is not a gamertag.

You are correct - the 914 is euro spec - even the taillights though they look red they show as orange in sunlight. Also, the speedo is in km/h.
Interior has the passenger foot rest as well.

Add the ending 7, its St33lerchief7. I would have added you, but I am new to Forza and have wanted to get some track time in before hitting the Live scene.

Once my sons came home today, my 8 year old wanted his car upgraded from Class F. I took it up to C and moved the oldest's from C to B. Now I am set, one car for each class so I can always race with a 914.

This is awesome. I had to hold this secret with my Bro, 6Freak, for a long time. It was very cool that he had his car photographed and now you all are enjoying a SIX in a video game.

IF you know 6Freak from his posts, he loves his car. It was hard when he was nominated for Car of the Month not to talk about all that he is doing with his SIX to promote our cars. He has taken it to SoCal for WCR, gone to the Parade, AND he AUTOX's it like a made man! All during that time we had to keep the secret to his video game debut.

His car is the reason you all are enjoying the video game.


I think 6Freak should be considered again for CAR of the MONTH and some of these pics should be placed on the home page!

the pix my Brother posted (MR242)Were the pix that Microsoft sent me..and i ask about color and things like the grafix on the car and valanses were black and no side marker lites and no passenger side mirror and of course the lenses. Microsoft said that they had to ask Porsche if the could use the car (Copy rights stuff) Of course they said yes BUT we want the car Orange and it to be a euro model as well ..and thats why the cars are euro! PORSCHE wanted that way

OK, kinda funny story, almost forgot about it. I was driving home last friday, had the top off and had to drive through town. The local high school or jr. high was getting out. Some boys walked by my car at the light and I could hear " hey, thats the car in Forza, thats cool". Younger generation have never seen a 914!

Didn't read thru the whole thing but Forza 2 also had the 914 years ago.

Only complaint was you couldn't put a front splitter on the 914. My brothers tweaked MR2 was impossible to beat even though mine had way more power.

I loved GT Legends, and would probably love Forza if they would get off thier collective asses and make it for the PC and not the crappy XBox.

Lets put it this way, there is an install disk, yes an install disk. Then there is an update, 1.5mb, then the rest of the tracks etc you download from Xboxlive 455 MB, then you get to play with disk 1. Biggest game i've ever seen on xbox.

Spent a good 2 hours playing it tonight. This game is a blast. Played on easy to build up my credits to get my 914. Now I'm pretty well setup. Time to quit cheating with all the assists now I suppose. Guess we'll see how bad I do tommorow night with them off

Ya, the time difference is a bitch. I've been working on my real car till about 9 here, then driving the virtual one. I just cant seem to place in my A class 914 though.

And the graphics logo is very cool!

Dang Steve, Mark Crandal, Mark & slow me! That was a kick man. I need to get some more time on the game & build a few 914's in each class. I also need to pony up for a steering wheel. That is the best driving game I have ever played. I didn't play any of the other Forza drivers. They sure nailed this game. Hopefully we can get some more Teeners on here playing. Thanks for the butt whipping tonight guys . We ended a little early though. I don't think I even took Crandal out that last race

Good times in stock teeners. We had four 914 owners and one drop-in.
I will have to find time to download some replay clips to post.

Buy a couple more 914s and upgrade them to E and D class. If you have the credits, upgrade a couple for C and B classes also.
For a first time Forza player, you didn't do so bad. You had a couple of good runs.

Early for you was 2 a.m. for me!!!

My 8 year old is now racing on Forza. I am so proud he took a minute away from HALO 3 to play this! He is impatient and wants his own 914 now, but he has to earn a bit first. Now the whole house is racing, pops and two sons! I LOVE IT!

We played again last night and it was pretty much a stock 914 night. In addition to myself, we had...

I made my first video using the "create a movie" feature in the game. I hate that it limits the movie to 30 seconds max. Anyhow this is a 30 second clip from "Fujimi Kiado - Old downhill"

I took a pic on FM3 on my flip after rear ending the CPU car whcih slammed on its brakes going into a mild corner. Turns out after reviewing the clip, Jake mistakenly broke too hard as he was first dealing with manual shift, which the CPU designated as a stop, which immediately came to an abrupt stop, which sent me flipping. The pic has me upside down, a virtual 180. Working on getting it into MSL online so I can copy and attach.

I bought a 360 a couple of months ago and just bought a Microsoft wheel a couple of weeks ago. I got the wheel all set to go and turned on the console. What do I get? RROD! I finally got my repair kit so now my xBox is just like my 914, disassembled with the parts scattered everywhere. :-(
I should have it back together soon and will be picking up FM3. The Limited Edition is very cool but $80 is a bit spendy.

We can then all link up online an race up to 8 I think.
We raced stock 914's so nobody has an advantage.

You can get plenty of Teener driving while on the 360, just not against us 914 folks. IN fact, I put in about 20 hours of practice before I started the MSL, although it didn't show much. Have to run manual since it is signifigantly higher performing than the auto assist.

That is one thing I miss from FM2 - that version had "aftermarket" Fuchs that could be painted.

BTW... had a blast last night running stock teeners for a couple hours. We had 6 guys racing plus a couple CPU cars.

Betty got me this for Christmas, and I finally had time to load it and try it out today. I got to wreck your 914/6 on the old LeMans track!

I was disappointed to find out that there was no 917 in the game, but I did try out the 962. Damn!! When the boost comes on on that thing, you better make sure you are pointed straight.

Steering wheel I have is too sensitive too. I haven't found the adjustment for it yet.

I could only stick around for the one race at Le Mans. It would be a lot more fun with cars less than R class. Latley I've been racing an F class 914. That's in a whole different world than the GT3 RSR I used.

I was always behind everyone, since every love to catch my tail when passing and sending me in a spin. I liked racing with calling out the side where the pass is being made. This isn't Burnout Legends , but was seeming like it. Don't know why I was so slow compared to the rest with the same setup.

I found out braking works best when you are not turning, but before if possible, and I understand accelerating at the apex in a turn. Just can't get it to translate yet.

Same here Brent dont feel bad ....experiance has a lot to do with it and knowing the tracks ...some of those guys have every turn memorized on every track hard to beat that ...and a class car for every track ........but hey we will get there.....And it still really fun seeing who can get through the first turn

I am in the early stages of putting together a 914/6 Spec Racing Series and would like some input on both interest in participating and the day and time to run the races.
Tentative plans are to run races on Sunday early afternoon/evening Pacific time which will make it early to late evening Eastern time. If another day/time slot would work better, let me know.

• Each week will feature a different track - Road Atlanta, Maple Valley, Nurburgring, etc
• Races will last around 1 hour and (might) include a mandatory pit stop.
• Starting positions determined by a pre-race qualifying run
• Points will be awarded at end of race
• Cars required to have number
• A cool paint job would be nice
• Spec E275 - all cars will be set up the same. You can tune the car by adjusting gear ratios, suspension settings, etc
• That's all I can think of off hand. Give me some feedback, please.

My 2 cents would be some way to handicap the fast guys to make it more fun. The goal is fun vs "being the winner everytime" so maybe a reverse grid order with a 10 second start delay. Will reduce the turn 1 calamity and make it a little more interesting for the slower guys, myself included. If the same guys win every time you may lose interest.

I agree all cars should look period'ish vintage race style paint, no wings

Also keep collision and damage on to make sure the reckless drivers dont get away with knocking everybody off the course.

should be fun.

I'm in, the multiplayer in Forza really allows you to be creative. You can implement weight penalties for certain drivers based on current points. You can add delayed starts for certain drivers etc etc.

Sounds like a blast though.

914/6 PRESEASON MINI SERIES

TIME: start gathering online at 6:00pm Pacific / 9:00pm Eastern

I had fun too, But I can see that if you don't go adjusting gearing and upgrading stuff you have zero chance on most tracks. One guys car goes 135 and my struggles to do 120??? I was winning a race about every4 or 5 races when we all ran the same cars...This way its about who has the most time to see what gearing and adjustments works best for each track. While I understand thats the way it is in real racing,I just don't have the time to sit and tune my car. Nor am I interested in getting that deep into the game. Practice is one thing..But its not about skill when some cars are 15 mph faster. I did have fun though. Just my thoughts.

Last night was a blast. We had some good clean racing with some nice people.

My comments for improvement would be to ask everyone to create a period paint scheme with numbers. Also I would not worry that much about car tune/setup. It makes some differance but not near as much as careful driving.

FYI I used my Logitech wheel for the 1st time in a long time and my times/skill where substantially better. I am ussually at the back of the pack but last night I got a few 2nd places. I got a dining room chair, laid it on the short side and attached the wheel to the top of the chair. I will take a picture to explain but this setup worked better than I imagined. I had to learn to left foot brake since these wheel/pedal setups makes it clunky to move your right foot over. The wheel has made the experience a lot more fun.

I also found that not racing for the 1st corner was better for me. Keeping in touch with the pack and waiting for the big crash got me to 2nd place a lot quicker than going balls out.

Can't wait for next week.

I am not totally sure but unless you go pure stock I am not sure you can enforce a specific set of mods. Its math based. A certain mod adds a certain gain to the PI. Don't create rules for things you cannot enforce.

Plus there is no $$ to won here so have fun and dont worry if your car goes 5mph less than somebody elses car. That person is probably working a lot harder on the corners. Plus if you want another person's tune, just ask, Its not a secret!

I tend to agree that the car needs to be spec or at least have some required mods. I understand the comment about not being able to enforce this, but at a minimum if someone cheats they will have to keep it below a specific PI value. Another option is that we build up a totally spec car and someone locks that design and sells it to each of us for free in the marketplace. My understanding is that you can’t tweak locked cars? Anyhow, this is for fun and we have to have some level of trust.

Here is spec car proposal…

1. Set a rough target HP and target weight
2. Specify a spec wheel, wheel size and rubber type and width front and rear
3. Racing brakes (full adjustability)
4. Racing suspension (full adjustability)
5. Racing front and rear sway bars (full adjustability)
6. Whatever transmission allows adjustment of the final drive
7. No diff changes, or maybe allow a non-adjustable diff (sport?)
8. No wings

This basically locks in the suspension, brakes, transmission. Then we play with specific engine and weight reduction tweaks to get our target HP and weight. We let the PI fall wherever it ends up. Whatever the combo we decide upon the engine and weight reduction mods become standard. This leaves everyone free to make whatever suspension setup changes they want (camber, toe, ride height, shocks, springs, front rear bars), some minor brake adjustments and some minor transmissions adjustments.

I don’t think we need to build a monster car and should go with the spirit of a 914 which is low weight and relatively low HP. So I am proposing a weight that is just below 2000 lbs and 200 HP +/-.

I chose pretty much "sport" everything other than air filter. Although I didn't win, I stuck in pretty good. The biggest thing I see with the car is handling. I set sway bars to a pretty soft setting, only 16" wheels with sticky tires. Do about a ten minute tuning run, you can stop in the middle and adjust stuff. Found lower tire pressure made a big difference, as well as a softer suspention. I was well under 200HP and can hit 125 flat and straight. I set my gearing "final drive" to a very short setting, allowing 5th gear to actually be of use. Just my .02. Oh, and only the 205/50 upgrade on tire width.

I will try to publish exactly what I did later, but I will have to go from memory. I picked the full suspension upgrade. I lowered the car, but not all the way. I did a slight amount of toe out in front, no change to rear. About 1 deg front camber and about .8 degree rear camber. I lowered tire pressure to help tires warm up faster (since we ran such short races). I didn't have time to tweak brakes at all. I think I did sport weight reduction. My personal opinion is that people go crazy with weight reduction and this results in not much left to do with respect to motor upgrades. I used the transmission upgrade that allowed final drive tweak. I picked a random semi-light weight wheel. I then spent the rest of my "PI budget" on HP. I was a few PI short of 275, so I picked a few weight reductions to hit 275. I didn't change spring settings, didn't even buy roll bars. In short my tweaks consisted of some alignment tweaks and one gearing tweak.

Hey all... Last night I gifted a spec E275 tuning setup to EVERYBODY on my Friends List.
Has most suspension mods, brakes, 16" rims, etc The set up is NOT locked which will allow you to TUNE it by adjusting brake bias, suspension settings, gearing, etc.

With this setup, every car will have the same upgrades, same HP, same torque, same weight.
One variation is the rim style - there are several from which to choose that are all the same weight.

Is there any way to check to be sure a driver has applied this exact spec setup?
No, not really. Just gonna have to go on the honor system.

Realize, however, that both driving style and assists used can make a BIG difference in how a car performs.

Unfortunately, the limit is 8 whether participating or spectating.
I guess we could run 2 lobbies if it came down to that. But it is so much fun with a full room!
Would have to run some qualifying laps and divide up by lap times.

Need help guys.

The internet I have in my apartment is run my an individual. I need to be able to put my Xbox online without telling him. I know he might eventually find out but not for awhile.
I have a login page that appears everytime I get on the internet. After I log on; I don't have to keep logging on (if that makes sense). My current config is: ethernet cable from wall to switch. From switch to computer and xbox. The computer is working fine but can't get the xbox to connect.
If anyone can help me out; I would appreciate it.

As far as my gamertag; my account expired last month and once I connect the xbox; I'll buy a new membership to xbox live.

went to the page and could`nt figure out how to vote ??? ....Road Atlanta ..3 ten lap races .....or 3 ten lap races at each track would be cool also ..but if were gonna be on one track make it Road Atlanta...with at least one pit stop mandatory maybe even two ....seeya all Sunday at 6pm

I had fun on Sunday night. The racing was very close with a few of us trading positions back and forth at the front.

I noticed one car had a PI of 274. The spec 914 happens to have a PI of 275. When asked why he wasn’t using the spec 914, he said that the car was running a lower PI and that he was at a disadvantage to everyone else.

My opinion is that we either run all the same exact specification or a specific PI, but to not allow a mixture of both. My concern is that the idea was to have a spec series in which all cars were the same and that it was setup and driving that was to be the difference. There are many ways to build a car to a specific PI level and this can also create a wide range of performance. I also have no doubt that if given the option, I can build a 914 that is PI 275 or below that would be faster than the spec 914 car that is also PI 275.

I just wanted it to be clarified that we are required to use the same exact modifications. Using a different mixture of modifications (even if you are able to keep the PI at 275 or below) is not allowed. That other than the previously listed wheel styles (which do not impact PI as I expect they are the same weight), the only tweaks you are allowed are the setup adjustments.

6freak, I think you are mistaken, My DSL was flaky Sunday night and I could not race, so it was not me who bumped you off.

Not sure if you are kidding around but my observations from Saturday night practice are that you are a pretty aggressive and probably should not be making claims till you clean up your own tendency to rear end folks.

I think I am missing numbers on my front. I will fix that before next Sunday. I think my numbers on the rear is on the rear bumper (kind of small). Are they readable if they are on the hood/trunk?

It seems to me that the first few corners are pretty wild with people wanting to run side by side through turns and it's easy to hit people. I have been trying to not be aggressive on the first lap so as to avoid contact.

Everyone seems to be racing really clean around me. I think Sonauto accidentally hit me under braking once and he gave me back the position once I got back on track which was cool. With the racing as close as it can be it's hard to call out passes. Especially if you are right no top of someone in front of you and they make a mistake. You have to jump on those when they happen.

I think alot of the aggressive driving is do to the fact that if you can be the first one through the corner you stand a much better chance at winning...if you get marred back in traffic the leaders just walk away ..but hey thats spec racing ...I did try the over head view at the start and it was great i could see anyone around me and we had some clean starts and once we got sorted out i switch to the incar view ..granted there were only 5 cars but it work good for me ..JMO...Race on

I had a novel all typed up, but it really was too long to post. The short version is everyone is getting faster and the racing is getting much tighter. I think if everyone had more experience on the track it would have been less gory. They don’t call it the green hell for nothing!

I think (not sure) that we are taking next weekend off due to Superbowl. If anyone is on the fence about joining, you should do it. I has been some of the best online racing I have ever had.

I didn't save any replays. I think I had fastest lap on Mugello short, but not sure. What bugs me about that track was that I couldn't get a good clean time. Something kept tripping the "dirty lap" indicator, but wasn't sure what.

I like the idea of the fun runs this weekend (no pressure to perform!). I also like the idea of getting some group photos of the cars. I think a game of Tag would be awesome. Not a fan of drag racing (especially since my launch sucks).

My X-box 360 dvd drive has been acting up. I ordered a replacement and kept hoping it would show before the old one died. No such luck. The old drive died on Friday, and the new one showed up on Monday. I got it put back together and was hot lapping yesterday.

Yes on Suzuka, Tsukuba and Motegi. The first short run starts random and the start positions for the next races are then determined by lobby points. So. the higher you place the better your starting point. I prefer the longer races as well.

Another great night of racing! Poorsche914/stemich and I were racing two wide on Tsukuba. If you know that track (very tight, very short), that is absolutely crazy! We both race using “in car” view, so it was hard to see each other, but we didn’t touch (would love to see a video made from that replay). I wasn’t able to make the pass work, so Poorsche914 won that race with me right behind him. I hadn’t expected to be that competitive at Motegi, but was able to pass Poorsche914 and establish a good sized gap and win that race. I had expected to do well on Suzuka, but Poorsche914 ran an awesome race. We were very close and made few mistakes. In the first or second lap I got loose putting the power down out of the hairpin and Poorsche914 pulled away some. We ran qualifying laps the entire race. It was the hardest I have ever raced anyone. My fastest lap was just a few tenths better than his, but because he was so fast and so consistent, I was only able to close the gap to about 2-3 seconds. Frankly if it has been 100 laps, we were so closely matched I don’t think either of us could have passed the other unless someone made a mistake.

Never too late to join the fun. Just send a friend request to Stemisch or StepuptotheMike and we can send you the 275 spec tune for the 914. Then just meet up with everybody on Sunday evening.

The tune is mainly suspension and tire upgrades.... not a whole lot in the horsepower arena.... so it keeps things even. You can refine your settings all you want with the components in the spec.

I think most folks are using a wheel and pedals. I picked up the microsoft wheel a few weeks back, but have not had a chance to get used to it yet.... so the last race I did was on a controller. I think it will take a bit of practice with either one you end up going with.... but the general concensus is that a wheel is the way to go.

Finally picked up Forza so I will try and join this at some point.

I was a bit disapointed I couldn't add flares to my 914 in the game. I was able to make it the same color and I have a ridiculous rear wind so it looked pretty similar.

Oh I also couldn't paint the top a different color.

Some of us use controllers and some use a wheel.

Series races are run on Sundays - start gathering in race lobby around 9pm ET / 6pm PT with the first race starting around 9:30/6:30
You can also catch some of us online during the week practicing, tuning, etc

When you get the game, start the Season play to both get some practice and build up credits. You will need credits to purchase the 914 and upgrades. If necessary, I can gift you a car with setup. FR me at stemisch

Now that I got the settings I can fine tune them for the car. Guys with the gear ratios changed were just leaving me in the dust. But it was real fun trying to make perfect lines just to try and hang on.

Which leads me to the conclusion that I really need a steering wheel for this thing. They make a really nice porsche wheel but I will wait a few months to see if I still like playing online and playing forza. The wheel with all the accesories was like $400(my mistake $650).

E Spec series is now complete and we'll be starting D Spec next week.

Got my car setup today... and this is just what it needed. Just a little bit more power and now it doesn't feel like it's lumbering up to speed.

For the fun run we should do a globe trot.

D350 Spec Series Race #1 - East Meets West

This series of races takes us to two of Japan's tracks - Twin Ring Motegi and Suzuka. Both of these tracks have short sections designated as East and West. We will be running 5 laps on each of these sections and then running 10 laps on the full course.

5 laps Twin Ring Motegi East
5 laps Twin Ring Motegi West
10 laps Twin Ring Motegi Full
5 laps Suzuka East
5 laps Suzuka West
10 laps Suzuka Full

Same wheel I have. Work well, no wireless and also requires a 110V outlet for force/shake stuff. The force works okay if you turn it down in Forza. I got mine on Ebay about a year ago for about $70

Racing tonight!!!

Hope to see more of you online. The past few races have been pretty thin with only 3 or 4 people.

Tonight's race consists of 3 heats each at 3 different "point to point" track sections - Stage D at Rally di Positano, Fujimi Kaido Old Downhill, and Stage C at the Ring.

I originally planned to run staggered starts. Unfortunately, the way staggered starts work in FM3 is that time starts when the first car rolls. So the 2nd car in line automatically starts at a 10 sec disadvantage, 3rd car at a 20 sec disadvantage, etc.

What I have decided to do is set the starting grid to "RANDOM" for all heats and collisions will be off so that you cannot crash into each other. Even with this method the cars after the pole sitter has a slight time penalty since they all must travel just a little bit further. That is the reason for the random order - to help equalize that time penalty for all.
Even with collisions OFF, you can still hit the wall. And be warned - a clean, slower lap will ALWAYS beat a faster, dirty lap. So race clean and race to win!

9pm eastern/6pm pacific is the gathering time with races starting between 9:20/6:20 and 9:30/6:30

D Class Spec... arrive early if you need the tune sent to you.

Fire up the Xbox and have some fun online!!!

Things have just been busy as can be around here. With the weather turning nice and the days longer, all of the out door projects have kicked into high gear. It's also prime season for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Soccer....etc.

Believe it or not, I've actually been doing some work on my real car....stuff that I should have gotten done over the winter but just didn't have time with work schedule.

I won't be able to make it tonight as I am long overdue on some projects for the wife and I promised I would get them done for Mother's day.

I did order a 2nd copy of FIII so that my oldest son can play along with us on his Xbox. He's 11 and finds it really funny that us old men get together to race.

I would think attendance will be low as long as the days are long and the weather is nice...... that's when we should all be enjoying our real teeners anyway

I haven't lost interest.... and have enjoyed losing miserably to you guys.

What class? Last season we started with F and moved up to E.

What do you think about running a couple 914 spec races each week along with a single "open" race? Class to be decided on a week to week basis - run any car you like.
I think that will add a bit of variety to the racing and might get more people involved.

Sunday @ 9 PM ET still works great for me. I still think spec racing is the way to go (especially if we award points), but would also enjoy doing other stuff occasionally. I actually don't have a huge number of cars and haven't (and don't plan to) built up "it" cars for each class. I just don't play enough to worry about having a competitive car in each class. Stock cars with no setup tweaks might be fun for some of the "mix it up" races.

I think most people thinks its boring, but I would like to try out an endurance race that required pit stops for fuel and tires. I also like "theme" races. Like all muscle cars or ferrari vs. porsche. That type of stuff. And I think we had some fun last time playing stuff like "Tag".

Also Steve has my Gamertag ever so lightly wrong. It has a space in it. So it is...

"Method X"

I am with you on your suggestions. Especially the endurance racing part of it.

I don't think many of us have a lot of extra time to spend tuning cars. I certainly don't. I generally just mod suspension, tires, etc for handling and then if I have any points left, add engine mods. A quick test run to adjust to suit my driving style and away I go. My tunes (and my driving skills) are at the hobbyist level at best. I race to have fun and usually run "classic" cars such as the 914, various VWs, and other European cars. Cars that I would like to actually own in real life

You don't have to buy multiple 914s. What you do is build a car and tune it and then save that tune. Then, using that same car, add more mods or delete mods, tune it, and then save as another file. Repeat as often as desired. You could actually then have different classes and tunes for short tracks, long tracks, etc. Just depends on how much time you want to spend on it.

Yes, the 914 does well on the shorter, twisty tracks. But the long speed tracks... no contest.

I think I'll try that setup and see if it is better. I was able to out corner everyone but they were killing me in top end speed.

Just curious what gear ratios you guys are all using? I wouldn't mind someone sending me the SPEC D, E, F class tunes you are using. I'm still really learning to drive in this thing and have been spending most of my points on handling upgrades. #12 is available so it is now yours.
The spec setups are just the mods added to the car. You can tune the suspension, gearing, etc to your liking.
After tweaking gears numerous times, I finally set them up with the real 914/6 ratios and it has worked really well for me.
The 914 is good on the slower, twisty tracks but any track that has a speed section and you're probably gonna get stomped by newer cars.
Why no Forza community? The online racing "hopper" system really screwed things up. For the best racing, you have to gather with friends and set up the races. For a lot of gamers, once new versions of Halo or Gears or many other shoot-em-ups came out, Forza was tossed aside. Easiser to "win" the shooting games than to "win" in Forza.

Wow I just won this game at my 6th graders bazaar night and it has become my sons favorite game almost overnight!!
Tried it tonight for the 1st time and its a KICK!
The wheel w/foot contols takes a little getting used to but my boy has already bought the 914/6, and updated it to look like my creamcicle, and upgraded it to A class? LOL What a beast !!

Hey, I glad to see this going again. I kind of wish we had started this again in the late fall as it is starting to warm up here in NC and I may spend more time in the garage in the evenings. I also haven't run any Forza 3 in months. I bought a wheel awhile back, but really haven't gotten used to it yet, or have built a stand for it (still driving with it on my lap).

But, count me in!!

How about we run at least one or two weeks of "have fun" to let new guys get spec mods and tunes setup and then we can start a new point series? I am fine with 9PM Sunday (Eastern) I could go an hour later if that would help those on the west coast.

Rob... you haven't missed much as we have not played for over a year.

Take a look at the list of numbers already spoken for and then let me know what number you would like.

Organized races will begin this Sunday at 9pm Eastern / 6pm on the west coast.
The first couple weeks will be "fun" runs just to get the spec tunes to everybody and to practice a bit. Then we will start a Series with points awarded to winner of each race as well as participation, fastest lap, etc. The winner then gets to use #1 on his/her car the next season.

Racing sessions will consist of a variety of races: several short tracks OR a couple long tracks OR a single endurance race OR a combination of all those. You can check the forums I set up at http://www.volksbraggin.com/914 and look at the past seasons' races to get an idea.

We have run spec F, E and D tuned 914s in the past. You can get the spec tunes from me or any of the other racers. Just FR one of us and we will send your way. I also have a 914 World vinyl that I will gift to you so you can put it on your car if you'd like.

As far as painting your car and adding vinyls, pretty much anything goes. My preference is to keep a vintage look - not overly done like nowadays. Makes for better pics when all cars involved have the same look.

At least FM3 is relatively cheap nowadays. Try for the Classics version (or whatever it is called) as it includes all prior downloadable content - tracks and cars.

Will probably start with tracks like Road Atlanta, Maple Valley, Mugello, and other short tracks. Not real sure.

I will be on sometime today and send out tune specs.

The paint specs are up to you. Could be as simple as a number on the door and hoods or more detailed with sponsor stickers, graphics, etc.

If any one needs help with a design for their car, let me know and I will make something up for you. I realize not every one knows their way around the vinyl editor.

I am working on a vinyl group that can be used as a base for a GT look - hood pins, fuel filler, number plates, etc. Will gift to all when I have it ready.

Tonight we will go to the Benchmark Track A to just meet up, show off liveries, and get spec files to anyone that still needs them. Also would like to line up the 914s for photo ops.
Then off to Road Atlanta and Maple Valley for some racing.

But I know I am going to suck for awhile and my competitive nature may force me to continue to use regular controller as I think in the short term I will be faster!

Richard - keep the wheel and don't look back. It won't take long to get used to it. I had my wheel for nearly a year and never used it until FM3 came out and I decided to take the plunge. So much more fun. Key is to have the wheel mounted solidly.

This last, rather long track will complete the second part of the Olde Worlde Invasion.

• Silverstone National Circuit

The third leg of the Olde Worlde Invasion takes us back to Le Mans but this time to run the Old Mulsanne circuit - with a twist: bring out ANY pre-1975 European car built to C Class. This is all to get your adrenaline flowing for the trip across the Channel to run everyone's favorite track - Silverstone... back in our beloved D Class 914s. But fear not, my friends... while in England, ship your C Class to the Vaterland for the final leg of the Olde Worlde Invasion - Nordschleife at Nurburgring.

Olde Worlde Invasion - Part 4
• Nurburgring Nordschleife Full

This endurance race wraps up the first season. Points winners will be announced at a celebration banquet at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place points champions in both novice and advanced will be awarded prizes in the form of FM credits. 1st=60k, 2nd=25k, 3rd=15k.
Each member of the team champion will be awarded a pristine 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder! Didn't do teams

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Any input on any of these ideas is appreciated.

We will race a set of 3 races at each track with points averaging for overall winner. Each race will take about 10 min or so to complete for approx. 30 min at each track. Longer tracks may have reduced laps per run or less runs per session. This will put racing time at over 2 hours and total "play" time at 2.5 to 3 hours. Should easily wrap things up by midnight Eastern time.

Since there seems to be roughly equal numbers of "advanced" drivers as "novice" drivers, I think we should pair up into teams - 1 advanced and 1 novice per team. And if we have to run two lobbies, have an advanced lobby and a novice lobby. I think this will be more fun for everyone since it will put each racer up against others with similar abilities. It is 100% more fun to be racing within a few meters of another car than to be ahead (or behind) several hundred meters.

Points awarded not only to the individual drivers but also to each team. I don't want to make it too difficult to figure points but I think this is manageable.

POINTS AWARDS
Individual Points
1 pt Participation - just for showing up to race even if you can't stay for entire session
1 pt Third Place - overall track series
2 pt Second Place - overall track series
3 pt First Place - overall track series

Team Points
1 pt Participation - both teammates show up to race even if one or both can't stay for entire session
1 pt Third Place - overall track series
2 pt Second Place - overall track series
3 pt First Place - overall track series

I think thats what everyone looks at first following the race. In my case, how far back from the field I was. I am sure you are being modest and do not want to gain too many points over the field.

I love it. I like that we do a short "season" over four weeks. I like the theme. I also love the idea of the endurance tracks (Le Mans and Nurburgring). I may miss driving the 914 on the LeMans circuit, but it will be fun to build up a new C class car. My only comments/questions are...

1. How do we determine fair teams?

3. If would be great if we knew the number of laps per track in advance. I know we may have to adjust +/- on the spot based upon time, etc. but a rough idea would be good.

I kind of like the idea of reverse grid, but only if the lap count is on the higher side. Some of us are close enough in ability that with reverse grid it can be hard to pass and if the lap count is low then it can be condusive to "hailmary" pass attempts which may just result in lots of wreck. I am a fan of the regular grid, but just in case we decided to do reverse grid, I just wanted to point out the downside.
5. On the special LeMans C class car. I hope there is not a "must have to win" car in one of the later car packs. I would prefer to not have to buy more car packs. How about we put together a list of the pre-1975 European cars from the base set of cars? I so wish Forza had a 917 as that would be awesome for us to race 917s on the old LeMans.

I don't know if everyone understand the "clean/dirty" lap thing, but doing things such as drafting, slight course shortcuts, doing damage to your car, etc. will trigger a "dirty" lap flag and this will penalize your lap time. On some tracks, you can turn faster lap times if you do slight shortcuts, but you will get the "dirty" lap penalty (time penalty) and with the penalty it is unlikely that your lap will end up being your fastest.

So my point is that if you are in a tough fight with someone who is closely matched to you, you potentially can run an entire race without getting a clean lap. There have been times when the only way I can get a clean lap is to build a slight lead, sacrifice some actual time by not drafting, or taking slight shortcuts to get a clean lap. That clean lap may end up as my "fastest" lap, but in reality, I probably was running faster "dirty" laps. There was at least one case last night in which I had fastest lap, but in the process of getting that fastest lap (I tried to drive clean which resulted in a slightly slower time) the driver behind me closed the gap (I was still able to hang on and prevent the pass).

My point is that it's not a forgone conclusion that those at the front will clean up fast laps all the time. I think last night it not uncommon to see someone in 3-4th place getting fast lap. Most likely as they ended up running all by themselves.

With that being said, I am a huge fan of trying to get fastest laps. I would rather win, but getting fastest lap is almost as good to me. I wish the game also tracked average lap times as I would love to see how consistent I am lap to lap, but that is neither hear nor there.

I also wanted to say that there was some fast people online last night. It was competitive and I don't think any one single person dominated. I think this is going to be a fun and hard fought series.

I am thinking two man teams. If only running a single lobby that gives the possibility of 4 teams. And if there are 5 or more teams, we can play two lobbies - one advanced and one novice. Of course, the problem will be having both members of a team show up at every race to get points.

My reason for this is to make it fun for all. I used to race with guys in FM2 and at first I could sometimes manage a podium finish. As time went by, I was basically hot lapping at the back of the pack all by myself - those guys are FAST! It is so much more fun when two or more guys are dicing it up whether at the front of the pack or further back. That is why I absolutely love racing the 914s. Method X, Racerx9146 and others make it fun and challenging for me. I honestly don't care if I win or not (of course it is nice to win) it is the racing I enjoy.

You are welcome to join. We will be running spec D class. FR "stemisch" on Xbox and I will gift the tune to you. Once loaded to the car, you can tune the suspension, gearing, etc to fit your driving style.

We race on Sunday evenings starting at 9pm. The first race of the season kicks off this coming Sunday. You can read about it a page or so back for track details, etc.
Each session should last 2.5 to 3 hours.

Join during the week on Xbox - someone is bound to be online in the evenings.

Looks like we should have close to even numbers of novice and advanced. A few of us gave the two group setup a try last night and it looks like it will work out. Takes a few minutes to get set up before the first race but then it runs smooth.

Olde Worlde Invasion - Part 1
• Amalfi Full Circuit - 5 laps, 3 heats
• Mugello Club Circuit - 5 laps, 3 heats
• Le Mans Bugatti Circuit - 4 laps, 3 heats
• Circuit de Catalunya School Circuit - 5 laps, 3 heats

About 20 minutes run time per races 1, 2 and 4. Le Mans will take closer to 30 minutes.

I will start a chat lobby by 9pm ET. Have patience as the teams are sorted out and the race lobby is set up. Should hit the first track no later than 9:30.

Be sure to have your number on your car - both doors and front & rear trunks.

If you know FOR SURE you will be racing, please sound off here with "advanced" or "novice" notation and maybe we can sort out teams beforehand.

For anyone that would like to race but doesn't think they will make it to all races, you are more than welcome to join as a "wildcard". You can still earn points as an individual but will not earn any team points.

I'm a little courious what you guys are going to use for a class C car. I know there are a few old Ferraris that look like they would be really competative. But they cost $$$$$$$.

In the Porsche padock there's the 550, 914-6, and 911RS.
I think the DB-6 and E-Type may be good choices but the 300SL and BMW 3.0 CSL look really good too. What do you guys think?

Yeah, those Ferraris are rather costly
On the old Mulsanne track, the 914/6 is not going to be competitive. Not sure about the 911 Carrera. The 550 Spyder might work OK but is also costly at 600k.
I haven't tried the Jag or Aston yet but both the BMW and MB look promising.

I've got (was gifted) the Ferrari 250 California and I was rather disapointed with C class tuning. Same goes for the BMW 3.0 CSL. The problem is you need a more powerfull GT for these long tracks. I'm thinking Detamoso Pantera, Aston, MB, or lamborghini. Or maybe some one can gift me a 250 Testa Rossa?

Great night of racing. I found out that I shouldn't break going into corners or you get rear ended. If someone goes into the grass and than get back on the track, try to drive around them, not though them. Right poorsche914

Say what you want but I was very consistant tonight, ALL four series of races 5th place. It tells me one thing, never drive my 914 on a track.

Hello - I read thru the 30 pages or so of the topic and was wondering if you could give us a list of what it would take to start from scratch ..

I have the tv part ---Other than that what do I need --- I held off on the xbox while the kids were little (have a wii) NOW it time for me to race online ( plus my www.Chumpcar.com 914 )

I had a good time last night. I think I am lucky to have done as well as I apparently did. I was gifted some good results due to people crashing out, etc. I also managed to somehow slip through some multi-car crashes without getting involved.

I had a death grip on my controller all evening and toward the ends my hands felt like crab claws.

HARDWARE
1. Xbox 360
2. Forza Motorsport 3 - if you can find it, get the Ultimate Edition as it includes all the downloadable content of the first year

INGAME
5. Porsche 914-6 set up with spec tune - we are currently running D spec; I will send this to you

7. Xbox Live Gold membership to be able to play online
8. Available to play Sunday evenings starting at 9:00pm Eastern for 2-3 hours

When you have an Xbox and a GT (gamer tag) let us know and we will add you to our Friends Lists and get you the spec tunes and anything else you may need.

Yes, I saved the replay after each race. Then after we were finished, I went thru each one, fast forwarded to the end to get fastest lap times and finish places for each racer.

Next time I am going to try to remember to write down that info as it is displayed on screen. Might not have enough time, though, as it automatically goes to next heat.

Any idea on how everyone did in your lobby? A lot of races to remember

Nope. At the end, asked everyone to just remember where they placed, or actually which heats they won. They all placed as I was in fourth most races. Not far behind, getting better, but thats the challenge. Have some serious tune ups to keep back end from just flying out, going uphill, no shift, no increase, just instant spin.

The others will probably remember which ones they won.

I remember I think I won the last two heats, I think racerx9146 won the rest...lol. There was one I was in the lead at the end, but spun in the last turn... gt GT914racer. btw... I'd like to be #22 if its not taken.

Also I was running on the xbox live free edition, which I believe is new. Anyone else doing the same? seemed to be worked fine once I figured out my headset.

I never said I prefur I racing altough it probably is a much better racing sim.I have been looking to hooking up my xbox reason for posting a video of the logitech adapter i couldnt picture myself puching buttons on a racing game.. I went and bought a fanatec at fry's i will go pick up a copy of fm3..

I'm not on the list either but didn't want to say anything after my incident of using N0 False G0ds brakes to slow me down. hehehe I think I was just in a state of glee we made it through the first corner without a scrape. Besides pink on yellow didn't look good in the eighties and I should stop trying to mix them now.

Another great night of Racing.

1. First Race - First Heat - we turned off Damage and everyone was able to drive though the car in front or besides them. Nice, who needs to stick to a line when the car in front becomes transparent.

We finished that one race and restarted with the correct setup. Lots of crashes this time. It VERY easy to go from 1st or 2nd due to crashes, spins, guard rails and everyones favorite - WALLS.

2. Very fast track that could hold your lines on, the time seems to be made up the most in Breaking in the turns. If someone went wide and had to break you could make up a ton of room as the power (155HP) is so low. Must learn not to break hard coming into turns.

3 Great track - Long with some very tight sections thrown in for good measure. GreenPee was fast and JuJu, when he wasn't running into people had the fastest lap on several tracks.

Had a blast as always. Good racing with everyone.

Steve, I might have to run with this crew for a while, no offense but we were dicing it up all night long between 5 of us. No one was really walking away from anyone else.
