914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Swapping a 911 Tachometer into a 914-1.8

Posted by: FastSnail Mar 16 2004, 04:07 PM

I am thinking about swapping a tachometer from a 911 into my 914-1.8. Any recommendations? Do I have to adjust something in regards to the swap 6 to 4 cyl. Thanks.

It would need to be recalibrated to 4 cylinders. Not sure what the cost would be.

The tach reads pulse data than transforms the pulse data to analog data that you see on the Tach.
The tach for the 911 is expecting pulse data in groups of 6 .
So it would not work ..... yes it can be modified to work.... but I am not sure how.

That is the best I can explain it....

Speedo shop will do it for 50 bucks....you can buy a used 4 cylinder for the same....

Or less. You can pick them up on Ebay for $30-40. There are regularly whole gauge clusters sold there for well under $100. Sell your 911 tach on Ebay and use the money to buy a 914 tach.
