You must have inside information that the NCAA is going to sanction both Florida and Alabama which will put Arkansas in the SEC playoff game with the possibility of being the national champion this year. smilie_pokal.gif

Am I close?

I am still looking at my other schedules but maybe we can make this work..

I have cleared and smoothed out a 2.5 acre field on my property as a place to have small car shows and etc so maybe we could make something like that happen as part of this??

I also will have both driveways paved by then as well as my parking lot (been working on this for a while) and I am purchasing a piece of property adjacent to the shop as well, another good place to park cars..

We could have a small dyno day too, as we have a dynojet chassis dyno on site :-)

I am sorry Bob. my original dates were the same as the Red Rock Classic and I also had to dodge the Petite leMans. The other dates I tried were shot down by the hotel already having previous bookings. Therefore I did the best I could to dodge all other activities and still make it early enough so the Northwest guys wouldn't freeze if they wanted to come down. Bob,
I nixed the September dates. Too early in the year for the southern folks with no AC, and we also had some conflict with the Red Rocks Classic. We have to consider the 914 events first, other Porsche events second, and other motorsports events last.

I hope this won't keep you from being there.

Posted by: tat2dphreak Dec 3 2009, 01:48 PM

thank you for doing the scheduling guys, I can hope to be there, but I can probably only plan on attending one 914 event, and I hope it to be MUSR

Posted by: naro914 Dec 3 2009, 02:02 PM

Clay,
as I said to Donald: I understand, schedules are difficult to do. I just wish someone would have contacted me before you committed to a definite date. He and I discussed a September date that I know did not conflict with anything in the area. October is a very bad time to schedule things in this area because there is so much going on already. I had asked our local 914 guru John Forbes at Black Forest Racing if he could come and probably bring 5-6 914 guys. The October weekend won't work for him (I talked to him earlier - it's also a NASA race weekend) or me either at this point, so no I will probably not make it. I even had our local region change it's DE weekend to accomodate the Sept dates that Donald mentioned.

sorry, but it would have been a good idea to discuss with the local 914 owners before you set a date.

Posted by: hot_shoe914 Dec 4 2009, 12:39 AM

sorry, but it would have been a good idea to discuss with the local 914 owners before you set a date.
[/quote]

When you say "local 914 owners" are you refering to the ones local where I live, the ones local in the Northeast, or northwest or confused24.gif the west coast, east coast. I am sorry Bob but this event is meant for ALL 914 owners, not just the ones local to the location of the event. I did the very best I could to try and not conflict with any other "914" events such as Red Rock Classic, hershey, The East Coast Cookout or any others for that matter. I know we would ALL like to make ALL the events with our fellow teener owners but sometimes logistics have a way of dictating what we can and can't do. headbang.gif You mentioned 2 events to me , Petite leMans and the DE. I avoided both of the weekends you mentioned. I have changed the dates 3 times tring to accomodate all but had to decide on something. If someone else has a better plan, poke.gif then let them speak now or forever hold their peace. popcorn[1].gif

The last time we had it here, it was a lot of fun. Grasshopper did a great job setting it up. I really appreciate the effort that has been put in with the planning. I have put the dates on my calendar with hopes that work and grandchildren don't interfere.

Once again I say LET'S PARTY!! aktion035.gif

Posted by: naro914 Dec 4 2009, 07:05 AM

obviously I meant local to where you're going.
Point is, if you're going to have a party in someone elses backyard, shouldn't you at least consult with them before you schedule it? Why did you bother asking me in the first place?

Yes, I hate that all of us that LIVE here are going to probably miss it. I was really looking forward to it since we had such a great time in Alabama. I thought the weekend in September was perfect, it didn't conflict with anything.

Posted by: scotty b Dec 4 2009, 07:25 AM

Can't we all just get along ? slap.gif

Posted by: naro914 Dec 4 2009, 07:39 AM

sorry Scotty. It's just that when the idea was brought up to me, I thought it was great and we discussed specific dates that would and wouldn't work. I said that October was a very bad month because there is so much going on in this part of the country that it will definitely conflict with too much, so we settled on September. With that knowledge, I started talking it up to all the 914 owners in the area. We had some really great ideas of things we could help out with and I got a bunch of people that have never done anything with the 914 group very excited. There is a collector here that has one of the Brumos 914 GT's that he said he would try to bring out...stuff like that.

I'm just a little upset that we finally have an event close enough for many of the Carolinas and other Southeast people can attend, and nobody bothered to see if the timing worked out.

I would assume being a PCA event you would need to consult the local PCA region to get them to sponsor it or something right? or is that not necessary? Not sure with SIG events....

Look, I'm sure this is going to be a great event, and yes, part of me is just pissed that we probably won't make it. I was at John's yesterday and he was very disappointed too. He's never been to a 914 gathering, even though his #1 passion is 914's. He has a long history of racing them, back when they were new from the factory. He's raced with Hurley Haywood and was good friends with all the Brumos guys. At one point, we counted 19 914's at his shop (some were just old chassis, but they count)

The Dragon is a great run, as are a lot of other roads there. If any of you can make it, I strongly encourage you to be there....

As somebody who has organized events like this, Ill chime in...places like the "Tail" aren't in anybody's back yard...it's a national treasure. Besides, it's an event for everybody who wants to attend, not just locals. As to not conflicting with other events? Impossible. You try to avoid the "biggies" but even that is almost impossible because it's all subjective. That being said, the event planner always gets grief from some direction..."No good deed goes unpunished". One of the best lessons anybody ever taught me is that when a leader (or planner in this situation), does anything, 15% of the folks applaud, 15% decry it, and 70% don't give a rat's ass.

QUOTE(naro914 @ Dec 4 2009, 08:05 AM) *

obviously I meant local to where you're going.

Posted by: tat2dphreak Dec 4 2009, 09:31 AM

ever tryied to get 10 people to come together on the same day? it's hard... everyone has their own things going and no one is clairvoyant to pick the dates that works... well, imagine that only it's potentially 100+ people, and instead of one meal, it's 4 days, travel, lodging, and planning things to do during those days... then make it more complicated and say "it can't be this week or this week because other, similar events are planned... "

what hot shoe and co. planned was a huge undertaking and I for one am grateful for the time put into it to make it as feasible as possible... I hope to make it. but if I can't, I hope everyone else has a great time, and shows appreciation to all those who put forth the effort to plan it. I'm sure if there WAS such a thing as a perfect time, you guys would have found it...

Posted by: Jake Raby Dec 4 2009, 12:51 PM

Logistics suck- thats usually why I never try to plan any event with a group of people.. Out of every group 10% of the people will be whiners, or they'll just bitch about something. The first mistake is trying to please everyone! Its much better to plan the day and let the whiners stay at home rather than trying to accommodate them to only have them bitch later..

The only time I have in October is the 15-17, but don't try to work around my schedule as there is lots more to worry about than a stop by my place..

We are having a VW/ Porsche show here the first weekend in June along with a dyno day so some people could attend that IF my available dates don't work out.

I believe those are the dates of the event....damn good luck that could be!!

And the first weekend in June might just make a perfect time for tour Pre Runs??

Guys,
I think you're missing the point. Common courtesy, not to mention PCA ettiquette, dictates if you are going to run a PCA sanctioned event (which a SIG event is) it's a good idea to contact the local region, or at least the Zone Rep, to make sure it does not conflict with anything else going on in the region or surrounding area. Holding your own event in your own area is different.

No, you can't please everyone, trust me I know. After 4 years as a Region President, organizing many events in and out of Carolinas Region, organizing Porsche Parade in Charlotte, and now Zone Rep, I understand conflicts. My point is that before you do something in someone elses area, it's a good idea to get buy in from them first.

Posted by: Jake Raby Dec 4 2009, 03:23 PM

Cool. Like I said, if it works it works, if it doesn't we have June. Conflicts with people are something I hate, thats usually why I stay as far away from organizing events or having anything to do with it as I can..

I have no tolerance for pansy ass whiners that look for something to bitch about :-) (There are more and more of those people in our circles these days)

Posted by: bandjoey Dec 4 2009, 07:03 PM

OK. Let's get a 2011 Calendar started NOW so that year works. There has to be a central place or person that can start the scheduling today.

I'll be moving my dates around to get there, although it'll mean I have to get my car back on jackstands in January, so it'll be ready for that cross country drive in October. happy11.gif

Jake, just open the garage door and put a yellow rope on anything you don't want touched, if you can't be there in person..I'm not worthy pray.gif

I helped organize the run through The Dragon a few years back for the "SouthEast Classic." These roads are always a fun drive and there are lots of different routes to take to and from.

My personal opinion is that we should try to get a drive in the spring/summer and then again in the fall. October may be the dates that get set, but September would be a much more scenic drive through that area.

I'm in for any drives on any dates that are in North Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee etc...

Just set the dates of what you are doing and let those that can attend come along if they are able or want to. I do agree though that you've got to involve the Peachstate Region if you make this an "official" PCA event.

Anyone not familiar with the area and looking or help to orgnaize this or any other drive are free to contact me. :-)

The point is I set a date and ran it by you. I was informed that it was the same weekend as Petite leMans and that you had a DE going the following weekend.(neither being a 914 event) Therefore I went after other dates suggested in September(which I actually prefer) but unfortunately the dates I wanted were not available at the hotel so I chose what I thought was the next best thing. Once again I sheeplove.gif that up as it turns out it was the same weekend as the Red Rock Classic.(a 914 event) So, for the 3rd time I contacted the hotel and checked to see which dates they had available that did not interfere with the RRC or Petite LeMans or the DE. I accepted the dates they had available as they DID NOT conflict with any 914 gigs nor the two events you mentioned to me. Now, as far as NASCAR, I don't give a stromberg.gif about those circle driving wimps anyways. I DID avoid the only events mentioned to me and DID check with you first. The POINT IS, the dates are set and there is no need in dead horse.gif . I truely hope you and the other locals can find a way to squeeze this party into your schedules but if not, the party will still take place and there will be fun for everyone. That is all I have to say on this matter.

It is in Vonore, TN
Smokey Mtn Region?
Hopefully Bob can still put us in contact with a local Region person so we can get waivers because yes it is a PCA sanctioned event.

Helen isn't the town it used to be.. My shop is 5 miles away..

After the Tornado ripped through there 3 years ago it hasn't been the same town... Its not really a fake town, the majority of businesses are owned and operated by German- American families.

Very touristy...Bavarian type architecture done on purpose to simulate a German town...pretty "fake" to me.

And that temp is probaly around 1000 feet above sea level. Most of the driving will start at that elevation and take us to about 6000 feet above sea level on the Skyway.

I have left Maryville in the 60's and at the top of Skyway water was freezing on the side of rocks and the wind is merciless up there too......

So this is a PCA event, not a 914 event? What did it matter if it conflicted with Red Rocks? The participation level will be higher from the part of the country where the event is scheduled.

The fact that you are putting together a PCA event and not involving the Local regions is weird. It would be like scheduling an event @ Sebring and not contacting my region.

The Mid US Ramble is primarily a 914 event, as it is sponsored by by the 914 SIG. Now the SIG is part of PCA. So in reality it is both a 914 event and a PCA event. We try not to conflict with any scheduled 914 event, then any PCA event in the local region. Unfortunately, in this case, we ended up with an issue of we interfere with one or the other. So now we are left with a choice of which? I chose to make our event available to all the 914 people. Plus, September is too early in the year for what we are doing. October is the traditional month for the Mid US Ramble.

Bob.. we did not intentionally try to cut you out of the loop. We honestly thought you had given us all the scheduled events for your region. And Don is the person who is working on the hotel scheduling, and frankly that is a tough thing to do.

I would love to have you and Nadine there with us. If you can come up with a date in October, where we are not interfering with a local PCA event, and we can find a hotel has an opening, the we can change it. Nothing is set in stone yet.
