914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 951 Wheel Fitment

Posted by: jim_hoyland Dec 2 2009, 05:55 PM

Came across a 7 x 16 944 Turbo Fuchs today and tried a test fit---unfortunately, the rim lacked a tire, so when I did a test fit, it was hard to tell. The 944 turbo wheel has a much greater backspace that a 911 Fuchs.

I know some run these on narrow body cars, please chime in. I have an option on 3 more of these.

The 16x7's all have the same backspacing.
The 16X8 has a greater backspacing than regular 911 fuchs.

You will have the same issues with these sevens as any other porsche seven.(except911r fuchs)

depending on ride height, tire brand/size, alignment specs , etc.

here is 16x7 and 16x8 951's 225/245
next all 951 sevens 205
next all 15x7 215/60
next 15x7 fuchs 205/50 note fender rub lightly rolled.

I am running some 944 turbo phone dials on mine. but, I have flares, so that wasn't the issue.
If you would like to send me those, I certainly can make something work biggrin.gif

Hey jim,
My yellow car had those same wheels. I had to roll the lip and push out the rear fenders to make them fit. I don't remember what size tire I ran though. I think it may have been 225's.

What he said. All earlier threads about 7" (usually x15") fuchs apply. If you need more backspacing, next step is boxster 7x16 at ET40 offset.

I'm running 16X7 dials with spacers. No real problems with my 205/50's.

Interesting: The backspace on those 7" wheels is 5.5" and--if I measured correctly--my Fuchs 7" has a backspace of 4.75". Does that sound right. I assume the 5.5" backspace wheels will fit a narrow body 914 ?

In the meantime, I picked up two excellent 6 x 16 Fuchs, and probably look for two more--got any ? Currently, the 7" 951 wheel is listed in the classified.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, Jim

Jim, I'm running 16 X 6 on the fronts, 16 X 7 on a narrow body without pulling the fenders...rolled the inner lip on one side.

Curious, why are you wanting to change wheels? The ones you have look real nice.

I'm changing the appearance. Had a second top painted black and going to fit 16" wheels with black painted paddles to complete the change.

This is the look of factory 7” Fuchs with 911 offsets with 205/55 tires. Rolled lip on rear of car.
