I managed to get the blue lines on the resevoir with some doing. Is there any kind of lubricant or an easy way to slide them onto the plastic lines that feed into the MC? They seem to want to go only so far before they bind.

Try brake fluid? Might work and at least you don't have to worry about it contaminating the rest of your brake fluid.

Yep, brake fluid.

The only have to go deep enough to put a hose connector on.
