914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Win a rebuilt transmission!

Posted by: Dr Evil Dec 10 2009, 11:34 AM

Who out there could use a rebuilt transmission for their beloved 914? How about if the chance to win said transmission were only $20!? Well, here is your chance!

What: Transmission auction, includes free labor for life and free used repair parts for life, free shipping to winner if in the lower 48!

For: To raise money for the Lee Cyr Memorial Build-off

Cost: $20 per ticket, $80 for 5, no limit on how many tickets you can buy!

Details: During my clinic at McMark's shop in Napa, SirAndy donated a good side shifter core for me to rebuild. I had so many great used parts and the core was in such good shape it was not a problem and the finished result is a perfectly working 901 transmission with stock gears. Many of the people there helped out with the rebuild by disassembly and cleaning (SirAndy, RobW, others whom I cannot recall) so that all I had to do was inspect and assemble. I had many great parts that went into this box, some of which were donated by the builders at the clinic like Dr. Roger (if you donated, speak up and be counted). There was so much generosity going on that I could not keep track of everyone. Pretty damn cool.
To get a gear box of this build you would have to provide me with a usable core or buy one from me ($200), pay for rebuild labor ($500) and used parts. This box is worth at least $1000-1200 if gotten from other builders like Carquip on ebay. The current configuration of the box is side shifter, but if it is won by someone who needs a tail shifter then I will gladly convert it over so you may use it. This box will give you many tens of thousands of miles of happy shifting if cared for per the manufacturers recommendations.

I will gladly be on retainer for any concerns or repairs should it need them for the duration of ownership! This box comes with FREE REPAIR LABOR FOR LIFE! If it has problems, all you need to pay for is new parts (wholesale price) unless I have great used which will be free, and shipping (<$100 via Greyhound coast to coast).

You can not afford to miss this deal! Buy tickets early and in mass to increase your chances.

We will be holding off on drawing until we reach $1000 in ticket sales. If we reach the $1000 mark soon, besides being completely awesome, then we will establish a date for the draw and continue selling tickets until said date. The duration of this auction depends on participation, so buy lots of tickets!

Any extra proceeds will be donated to Lee Cyr's passion, NET radio.

To purchase your ticket(s):

Rapid payment -Contact RobW for info

Check – contact Kansas914 for address details

Here is a chance to get something awesome and to help your 914 brothers and sisters!

If everybody bought $80 worth of tickets, then each would have a 1:12.5 chance of winning! If everyone bought $20 worth of tickets then you have a 1:50 chance smile.gif

Dr. Evil is tempting you!

Sending PM, in.

We had a member of our auto x club die in his garage 2 seasons ago, working in one of his race cars. Motor running, did not leave a window open... We have done some fund raising and do a yearly new student driver school, similar to a "tire rack" teen driving school, in his memory. I designed the curriculum, all the instructors, workers are club members, we charge 20/head, and loose our shirts on the cost of the track rental, but the club sucks up this cost in our yearly budget.

I regret that I can't get to the build off, but can offer some $$$ in the form of this donation. Great idea on the trans raffle.

Ottox914, thanks for your donation and for sharing your story. Life is very short, too short, and when tragedies happen, we all feel it. Good luck with your DE next year. Post it here on the world site, and maybe we can add some 914s!

Thanks again.

PM RobW or Kansas914 if you are sending a check so we can wait until it arrives to draw. Thank you all very much for making this raffle a smashing success! Thanks to Andy for donating this gear box and helping with the rebuild, and to RobW and the rest of his helpers at the clinic for helping with the rebuild. This will rank up there with the Jenny build-off and the Korijo van buy. I love this place wub.gif

Phil Ethier? I thought he died of a heart attack?

Not Phil, he is very much alive and kicking. 2 yrs ago his mother passed, and concluding the estate probably took 10 years off his life. Last year, when it was FINALLY wrapped up, he ended up with a sum of money. And if you know Phil, and his love of old cars, british cars, and Lotus, you can only have one guess as to what he did... a Caterham, with an authentic dry sump 1600 kent motor, titled as a '74 lotus 7, making it vintage correct for some of the "old" events in our state, which consider vintage to be '74 and older. That car on 205's is a force on the auto cross course. It travels in an enclosed trailer pulled by a suburban. Phil is finally riding in style with the car of his dreams behind. As sad as many of us were when Paul died, seeing Phil re-born with the stress of the estate gone, and him back in the seat of a brit-mobile proves all is right with the universe again.

I gotta get that turbo motor done, and go Caterham hunting. Mine's still a '73, so I'll have him by one year and plenty of HP, but I'll be 800 or so heavier. Should be a blast. Sure hope I can win a trans to put that power down...

The DE is for young drivers, who have passed drivers ed, and are in their first year or 2 of driving. We take them on a track, and set up threshold braking, slalom, panic stop, avoidance, and skid pad exercises, each preceded by a short classroom session, with an instructor in the car for each driving session. The students drive their street cars, on street tires. We want them to experience what happens at the limit of traction, how to react, and what happens when you really loose it. (wet skid pad). We encourage an active look out, good driving position in the car, and have a session on knowing your car- how to check air in tires, oil level, where's the spare, jack, owners manual, what the dash lights mean. Its alot of work, and you never know if what you are doing will really make a difference, but at the end of the day, the confidence level of the kids is so much greater, you have just GOT to believe they will be better street drivers, and you hope that if a car is coming at you out of control, its one of your students, so they will react properly and no paint will be damaged.

The BMW Club does this too. I brought my oldest boy with a couple of his school friends. The best thing a parent can do for your Teen driver.

Will you count me in even though you've hit the goal? I'll mail a check to Mike Morman today.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Dec 14 2009, 08:36 AM

This is awesome. I'm really thrilled that we hit our goal so quickly.

Just a question, does Buttercup have a good rebuilt tranny?
If not, and if I win, I'd be happy to donate my winnings to the cause.

Hi Zach,

Nice gesture aktion035.gif

Dr Evil was interviewing for his residency in Wichita a month or so ago and made time to get to Garden City and rebuild the transaxle - so the answer is "you betcha" Buttercup with be sporting an EvilWerks gearbox!

Cheers!

mike do i need to replace my PP payment with a check? do i need to send money to cover the fee? rich

We are OK. The original funding is OK, and we are just using other means now to collect additional donations. Thanks again, RobW

All,

First everyone, thank you for getting on board here. Specially the Doc. You are a king among men.
I just want everyone to understand this auction was not a fund raiser in the usual sense. Because this is a "Build Off" We only wanted to cover some very basic expenses. Everyone who ever put on an event knows there are serious costs associated with them. We had a very small target. We met our goal and covered the small cost projection we budgeted for this event. That was our only reason for the auction.

For anyone still wanting to get in on the auction we have an alternate payment method. You can contact Tat2dphreak by pm. Let him know who you are and where your from and he will send you instructions on how to get in on this.

If you can't contact him, contact me and I will get you hooked up in short order.

We will lock this thread at 12:00 pm (noon) CST on December 15th and shut this thing down. The thread will remain locked. We want to keep the chatter out of this thread until after the drawing. We may open this thread back up long enough to post the screen names of the people that made it into the drawing.

The Drawing will be done on Christmas Eve.

Great Luck!
