I notice some cars have 'em and some don't so do they get added in restoration or lost in restoration?
Sorry for the totally newbie question but its a start...
None came with the hood badge from the factory.
Ah yes the birthday 914! It also has a flap in the hood , for quick fluid changes maybe?
Yes...and if you have that 914 in the picture, I would assume you're on the run, wanted by the German authorities and wouldn't be posting in an open forum:)
YES! It's been far too long since we had the 'hood badges' question.
Somebody clearly has way too much free time on their hands ...

Interesting to note, in that photograph above, Ferrys' 914-8 has a welded roof that is NOT like a 916 roof- no rain gutters! Yes, I know it has a sunroof.
mayo!
Do my eyes decieve or does the 914 in the back ground of the picture also have a badge?

Good eye. I would agree with that!
Now that's funny no matter who you are.
I zoomed in on the picture, and it looks like a targa top.
anybody know the story of that car? It is like a groupie photo.

Let's have a caption contest with this picture -
How about:
"You understand that this is Not A Real Porsche"

"Don't look but I don't know the guy behind me and he seems awfully happy about this car!"

"Ferry, we snagged those sweet Fuchs off your 911 for this photo op, but I promise we'll put them back."
"Introducing our new entry-level model. It is designed to rust out precisely at the moment the owner has become addicted to Porsche automobiles, leaving them with no choice but to buy a real Porsche to replace it."
"It runs pretty well, but I seem to have a small oil leak."
"Can you turbo one of these?"
You understand that this will beat everything else that is currently street legal. Oh, and don't forget, you will actually be able to lift (a little) in a corner without spinning the car.
"We are building two of these that are decent....the rest are slow as hell!"
Let's sell it to the Americans: they'll spend tons of money on them forever! Clever idea with the hood badge.
"We must corner the jackstand market! Buy options on Jackstands!"
he he he
Notice how the side window tops are actually curved to match the damn glass How nice! Anyone who has messed with the door/window adjustment can appreciate how AWESOME it would be to have a curved seal. Maybe I will get Mikey914 on this.
The car in the background is a 914-6 with 5 lug mag. Mahle's also. Let's just say no production cars were imported with badges, however, at our dealership we put badges on every car. Mine even has an orange stripe badge.

"You do know the old man is gonna can your ass when he finds out you took it out for a spin, don't ya?"
"Nonono, stop worrying Ferdinand, we are only going to make it for 6 years..."
euro911, thanks for bringin it back
"If you listen closely you can hear it rusting"
"Well boys, can I take it for a spin then? Toss me the keys."
"Err, umm, sure. We just need to find a screwdriver real quick. This ONE model has a anti-theft feature - you start it by jumping the starter."
"Just this one? Why don't you do that to all of them?"
"Never thought of that before sir...."
"Here is your next German Top Gear challenge Herr Porsche, just know that when the car you foolishly bought breaks down in two miles you'll have to drive the backup VW bus."
"See this vent window top? Don't poke your eye out or jab your face when you're opening the hood."
Love that front opening for the oil cooler. Doesn't match the lines of the car at all.
"here is yours"
We hid one of the earliest prototypes in California.
