Hmm i may have a running car and some money by then!!
Now I have a deadline to get my engine finished by
I would have thought you would have given Bryce Baghdad a consideration.
I've been wanting to make one of these. Anyone near Vegas going & have room for a passenger? I'm in Vegas the followin week for a work. I could come out early & head up for it. Worst case I could get a decent rental for the weekend. I'll have to try to pencil it in. How far is it to there from Vegas
I want to...
593 miles for me...I will be there in Phoenix that weekend anyways.
The Alien is in storage. The overhead door had water seep under it and freeze there is a big bank of snow infront of the door. I will be lucky to get the door open before mid April. I put the car away with a broken transaxle, so even if I could get it out it's still broke.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, I cant wait and thanks for getting it going! We know its alot of work
Got my rental too! A little PT cruiser convertable. Probably a POS but it was pretty dang cheap. So I figured why not . I'll bum a ride in a 914 once I am there
For total success on a Route66 run, remember to order your tomatoes on the side.
And you'll love your rental Neon.
PT Cruiser is quite possibly the worst car I have ever driven. I had the joy of driving one back from Denver after buying a 914...never again! (Sorry Dean)
Rent a HHR, I rented one of those for a while, not too shabby.
Yes, Tomatos on the side is always the best way to order your burger on a Rt66!
It's fine. How many wives will be coming? My wife is hinting she'd like to go. Not real sure she would enjoy it. She isn't the most sociable person. Still if there is going to be some other women there I may say yes
Val will be there, I am sure Toast and perhaps Kim will be there as well. Kathy shows up probably more often than she wants to.
Someone has to keep you in check!
Well I am sure they will try to get me to upgrade when I get there. Really I don't care about what I drive there. I'm hoping to catch a ride in a 914 once I'm there. Rental is just to get me there for the most part. If anyone from Vegas is going I'd be happy to skip the POS rental
Is Liz's car running?
Weather can be a big factor in early March.
New Wickenburg PD equipment - watch out!!!!
Yeah I know - Wickie ain't that green, but some on here apparently think it is!
Gint's sweet ride from Rt66 years past...
Are you guys a game time call based on weather?
Bump for updated hotel rates. Looks like the rate that Jamie got is as good as we are going to do.
Tell them you are with the Porsche Club...or the Porche Club as they put it.
I added the attendees in the fist post. SO let me know if you are in so we can plan for food and make sure that we have enough rooms set aside.
Here is my 914 I won't be driving for the event
I'm also fairly close with my LE resto. There is an outside chance I will have it ready. Even if I do I doubt I'll feel good about making my engine break in be a long road trip. Plus when it's finished I am just going to sell it. With my luck if I took it on the trip I'd get wiped out by some idiot in a big truck
My 70 914-8 will most likely still be on Jackstands for Route 66. Now for WCR it will be ready . Wish I had it finished now though. It would make quite the drive so I suppose it's almost better this way .

I am looking forward to this one! We may be 914-less while we are there....but at least we won't be in a PT
We may have a 914 there, depending on the mood I am the cars are in that week!
I could always put the snow tires on the Jetta. Nah... Here's hoping for decent weather!
I got my snow wheels in today!
Unless, of course, I with the Wills' special!
Unless those are gas burner 5-lug mahles. You have some owrk ahead to make them fit on that white 914
They are six lug Toyota and Chevy pattern....looks like some serious hub drilling and a tad bit of flaring!
I can't wait to see Amboy again and stop at Roys along the old route 66. What a treat.

mmmm Agate!
Is it here yet?
Because I see that Wills is on!
Hey I've got Jim from Wyoming flying in to Vegas to come with me. So I'm in plus a guest now.
Oh & yes I am still planning on coming in the POS PT Although if I get a good deal on the upgrade sell who knows
Very cool! The more the merrier.
Put me down for a mostly maybe. I'm saving my pennies for another project, but if I can make it I will.

Bump! Updated attendee list.
Tomorrow me and the fam take the full run on the drive and nail down final details with dining.
In Anaheim I rented a base 08 Jetta with 2.5 and DSG auto. It kicked ass!
Made the run today with the fam. Updated the first post with restaurant info.
Only 24 days left till Route Faster Faster Faster? I'm ready for a 914 break
3 weeks from today, we'll be looking at this thread and it will have pictures that people have posted from the event.
My dad just let me know that he plans on attending the event in his "new" 914 if I can get it finished up in time!
He may actually attend more of the event than Val and I will!
The current COTM will be there. I hear it is a NICE914.
I am so ready Seriously need a break from work . Bring it on Route
C'mon already!
I'll be there!!! I assume we are staying at the Best Western both nites?
My son Aric and me may be passing by the Route 66 event. We will be driving the "Mothership" towing a 914 back to Area51Werks. Don't be surprised if we crash the party!
Excellent! I want to see Shalien
Hotel reserved! Whewhew!!! NO SNOW that weekend!
2 weeks left
We will be heading that way in less than a week Wills!
I'm going to start heading that way tomorrow. There will be a couple of detours along the way.
We roped in another one. Jason Luurs, the little guy from Tucson is in!
"I love it when a plan comes together"
This week is flying by. Loving that as I fly out to vegas next Wednesday morning. I've got 3 days of being on the show floor. Which means wednesday, thursday I work my butt off & see everything. Friday I do a half day & am hopefully hitting the road around 2. I'm ready right now
Hopefully not a repeat of last year! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dpc77f3SMVI
Went down & sat in my 914 for a few minutes tonight . LE is looking good & I wish I was finished to drive it to Route66. Oh well I sat in it just to get a taste. I can't wait I leave Tuesday
Pitiful how excited I am to get out of town
Looks the GLI is going to get a few miles on it this weekend. Hey, at least it's a VW.
Its almost here!!!!
I ordered some items from Patrick at Kennedy Designs and he dropped them off today with some xtra goodies for the R66 event!!!
Patrick is a great guy, Fast service and he will do anything you want. 2.0 2.2, put the logos where you want with every color choice out there!! A big Thanks to Patrick for his donation to the event.

Nice Andy!!! See you on Friday (hope I make it )
Cool beanies Andy! Looking forward to seeing you there Jason!
So is there an award for 'traveled the greatest distance to attend'?
My scenic route took me from Wyoming, drove to SLC, flew to MD, drove around that area and hit MD, PA, NJ, and WV, and now I'm flying to Vegas to ride another 4 hours in a PT drop top...
That's an easy 5000 miles to show up for this here event.
Who is arriving when? I am guessing I will be there about 1:30 on Friday afternoon. Who's with me?
Sounds about right for me. Lunch??
Shar and I are hoping to knock out a couple of hundred miles after work tomorrow. Then we'll finish the rest of the trip Friday. Should be there around dinner time?
Damn shame I70 is completely closed through Glenwood Canyon. We were going to drive to Fruita and then take the scenic route through Moab.
I'm really not sure how soon I'll be there friday. Really depends how work goes at the convention tommorow. I've got a busy day but if things go well tommorow. I should be able to leave Vegas no later than 2. That can fluctuate from 12-4 though .
I've got wake my ass up early tommorow to pick Jim up at the airport at 7am. Talk about being a dipshit. I booked the damn flight
We got a good start on it this evening!
it's a quarter to five and I'm up and stoked and ready to head to the airport!
I sure am glad that I can sleep all day at the Hotel if I need to. I'm just grateful someone bought the tickets for me, and am not complaining one bit.
Is it tomorrow yet?
Me and Henna are major bummed of not going.
Have a blast! Guys Gals!
I'll see all you fine folks in a few hours! Weather looks PERFECT, assuming you are ok with sunshine and 70 degrees.
See y'all this afternoon! I hope to be there between 4 and 5.
Shar and I are in GJ and will be heading south through Moab in about 30 minutes. We're taking the 2 lane scenic route 600 miles, so it'll be a while before we get there.
Off to change out my rental for one that works right I hope. Phuckin PTcruiser is a piece of crap. Well the one I got was just trashed. Sure hope the other one they got is better. After seeing the quality of this one I don't have high hopes. I need to pay more attention online when booking stuff. This Fox rent a car is an offsite place Just standing in line to pick up originally I had 3 people ahead of me swapping cars because theirs had issues . I just new it was going to be an issue. I'll give them one more chance & if this next one has issues. They are giving me a damn refund
Then I'll go somewhere else to find a car. Well we shall see in a few
Rick called from the road... He's picked up the car in California and is heading to Kansas. He asked me to let you know that he can't swing by route 66.
Jim & I got here around 8 I think. Not to bad a drive overall form Vegas. A little longer than I thought but not bad. Spent a while by the pool huddled by the still running BBQ's for heat . Good times .Looking forward tot he drive tommorow
well here's a few pics as people showed up, Good BBQ and brew

You can imagine what this lead to....
Jason, Joe & Andy
Nothing to see here...move along.
Waide happy about not being "That Guy"
Sharon G, Val & Andy
Needless to say, we had a great time both nights and the drive Saturday was a great one with plenty of hard corners and some wide open areas as well. Food was great everywhere and the company was top notch!
I didn't take a whole lot of car pics but I did have to get some shots if Jim LaMonica's narrow bodied 3.6. This car is amazing to say the least. It was the runaway winner for the People's Choice award.
BBQ'd Coronas too?
Mike

Those cans got hot!
Yeah it was a fun weekend. Glad I could make the event. Could have done without the rental car escapade. I just need to pay more attention when renting something online. Oh well though it was worth it. Great to meet all of you again & a few new ones too. Had a great drive yesterday in Jason's 914. Sweet ride that is & the company was great too . Thanks again for the lift.
Huge thanks to the organizers for setting it all up. Those 45 mph turnabouts were epic . Damn near got taken out by a Toyota Prious when we left this morning
A big thanks to Wills for another great R66 event and to John for the T shirts. Its alot of work!!
Great to see everyone and meet Jamie and Jim, Jim and Deb with their awsome /6 car and Linda. got to see some cars in person that I had only seen photos of. Time for some

Nice collection of cars... you're posting my "field of dream" cars...
Just returned home from the "route 66" event. Had a great time. Great people, cars, driving, weather, and biscuits and gravy. Thanks Mike for organizing such a good time.
This was at our stop on the way to the drive. =o)

I just got back from the Route 66 tour a few hours ago. I spent last night in beutiful downtown Barstow. Much thanks to Mike Wills for organizing another great event. Much thanks also to SoCalAndy and John (Elvira) Peterson for the hats and "T" shirts. Here's some pics of my drive home on the old historic route. I drove it so fast the CHP did some time traveling from 1956 to catch me!

Mike and I just completed our trek home. We hit some very unruly weather from west of Santa Fe (where we spent the night last night) through south of Raton. However, I think we only lost about 30 minutes travel time in the long run.
Outside of the weather home, though, it was a super event (I can't blame the planner for the weather). I had a great time - my fingers are healing nicely from picking up the hot bbq can... and I may have recovered from the major serious blonde moment(s) I experienced on Saturday evening... I NEVER have blonde moments and assume that was enough for this decade.
I didn't get photos of the event, so these are scenic pics of the trip to/from:
On the way to Moab (I mean Wickenburg, but these are from north of Moab)
North of Phoenix
Working to get out of Santa Fe this morning!
... and this is a super display of my wicked photo taking skillz (trying to get the Welcome To Colorado sign on the way from NM to CO - you can see the side of the sign to the left of the photo).
Stay thirsty Elliot!
Just made it back to Tucson after my Vegas detour
7+ hours in a 914 makes for a sore arse! Car ran great except for 1 hot-start issue and a loose connection on my fuel pump. God its great when you are in the middle of nowhere and lose power! Glad it was just the connection!
MIKE: Thanks for organizing the event! It was a great time as usual. These events get me fired up to work on the car, gotta love it.
JAMIE" Glad you could ride along with me. I'd like to see that video you shot on our way down the mountain thru Skull Valley. If you have it posted somewhere, let me know!
Great to see old faces and make some new friends!
