914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Pulling the heads for the first time.

Posted by: KaptKaos Feb 14 2010, 08:28 PM

I am pulling the heads on my 1911. I want to make sure I do this correctly, as I will be putting it back together.

I have removed the fan shroud and the tin. I have removed the rocker arms, push rods and the springs that hold the tubes in place. Push rod tubes and lifters are still in place.

Can I leave the push rod tubes in place and pull them with the head? Or do I pull them first? Is there any special order to remove the nuts that hold on the head? I've already hit them with penetrant.

Let me know. TIA.

It doesn't matter if you remove the push rod tubes before or after removing the heads. I personally think its easier if you remove them after.

It also doesn't matter which order you remove the nuts.
