So....a lot of world mebers own tail draggers aas drivers and not "donor vehicles"....I have one, the oft maligned bastard cabriolet that has an 83 SC frame, 72 body panels and a 3.6 stuffed into the rear.
Today I talked to Rich in Eugene. He's picking up a 911 for CHEAP. Rich also goes by "Shade Tree" and is a good friend. He'll post pics.
Let's get a list of the wankers who secretly own the "other pinky lifting Porsche".....wasser pumpers doan count.....
BTW, I DO have a 914/6....I hope it will be at WCR.

That's a donor car, smart errr, short guy....
WHERE"s my A/C stuff?
No 911 thread is complete without this.
"Let's get a list of the wankers who secretly own the "other pinky lifting Porsche".....wasser pumpers doan count....."
No secret here
Pretty....did I do the graphics?
Eh, Z-mobiles don't count....they are their own monsters
However that 914/6 looks factory fresh, nice!
Token ass-dragger at RRC09
Not sure if this counts.. But this red 1970 Targa came in to a shop while I was working on my 6 .. must have been around 1976 My Wife wanted it bad enough to sell her Sunbeam Tiger for it
That was her DD for some time.. A few years ago I convinced her she would like this instead of a Cabriolet
That didn't last long.. Then my mechanic found this for her for 9000.00 I keep telling her to make sure it gets hit in the nose when the time comes. I want the 3.2 for something else..
I still have the 6 though..
Pretty much all I got to keep....she got the house and the kids and I continue to pay for support. NOT THAT good a deal.....
I confess I have owned tail draggers for a loooong time ........ but my first two 'porsches' were 914s !! I had a 1971 1.7 then a 1974 creamsicle .................. then on to a convertible 911SC with steel slant kit, then a 1984 Carrera, then a 1985 930 euro model ............... then my last tail dragger that I sold about 5 years ago was this 1997 993TT with upgraded GT2 turbos, 996TT wheels and a little more than stock boost ............ as of 5 years ago I am done with tail draggers! ................ my current 'porsche' is a 1973 1.7 that I will be turning into a GT replica as time allows ......... as well as another mid-engined convertible of 'italian' origins, that takes most of my time ........
here is a pic my last tail dragger

Does it have to run? If not, then guilty as charged . . . but I'm putting in a mid-mounted M96 3.4L, so it won't count for too long . . ..
It's actually a 1968 shell with 993 quarters- keeping most of the longhood look. It'll be built for the possible addition of a turbo, but not much else. I'm only looking for ~350 horses.
Not like the back seats in a tail dragger were worth a damn anyways....you gonna make a rear trunk to really screw with people?
Well I posted it in my blog last year.
We did buy a 80scTarga.
Just could not resist
But we also have several 914's that are running and
several rollers and parts car 914's.
914's are more fun, but the 911 is simpley different.
Everyone needs at least one.
John
Well, the deal fell through but has opened up another possibility. I didn't take pics of it yet but it needs work. Mostly cosmetic. I think it's a 68 or 69. Stockish 2.0 full cage, slicks. It comes with all parts needed to return it to stock as well. Right now it's pretty well stripped. But no rust and it's mechanically sound.......I think. I'm not finished bartering yet.
Guilty also. I just cant help myself.

been there, done that 3 different times

Had a 1977 911S Targa, a 1978 SC Targa, and now as a daily driver a 996, by far the best car I had so far But I miss the 1977, the car was in great shape, no rust, always here in WA, everything stock. But most time I spend with the Bumblebee in the garage

Here is my tail dragger, but it is on the auction block to fund my 914 habit!
guilty here:
Got 2.
Our DD 993 cab with 177k miles
also have a '69 that is getting some work done and soon to be for sale.

Ok, time for some crappy cell phone photos. I can't seem to remember the camera.
This is the one I didn't get....but that's ok.
And it's ok because I like this one a lot more anyway. It's not mine yet but I'm putting a deposit on it while I figure out some important stuff that came up............
Is that cage welded or bolted in?
They sure put the down-tubes in dumb places...
The points that I noticed were bolted.
Since you plan on taking it out....I may know someone who might want it....
guilty,soon to be a Subaru transplant....maybe ,any one care for a 2.7

forgive me father for i have sinned. I have been bangin this fat whale tail for 6 years. most of my PCA friends dont even know I have it

Like a fat chick or a moped...fun to ride, but you don't want your 914 friends to see ya....
I had an Italian Bennelli moped...
I bought this one last year. Had to sell my 74 914 to get it. My first 914 is in the background in the garage without an engine presently.
No I'm not ashamed to own a tail-dragger. Hell, I need a Porsche that runs.

How about people with ass-draggers with only 6V and 4 cyls!!!
I would say less power than my 914, but I'm not sure that's the case.
I've always wanted a 911 too, but don't think I'll ever have the money to afford a 914, 356 AND 911...so I'm working on convincing my brother to get one, haha.

I had a 58, was beautiful.....restored it from a rusty hulk. Was underwhelmed by the brakes and engine. Sold it for a tidy profit though.....
Maybe I am odd. I find nothing really attractive other than the 914 and occasionally the odd silver 356 coupe looks neat, but I could never see myself owning, driving a 911 or 356.
when I was a kid, my Uncle had a 914 and a '70 911. I HATED the 914, thought it was the ugliest thing ever built. I really wanted the 911.
He eventually sold both, and has bought various 911 itterations since (993, 996, turbo, etc).
Fast forward, our first Porsche was a stock '74 2.0 914 (what is now Papa Smurf). Second was a 944 Cab, which we sold to eventually buy the 993 cab.
Since then, we've owned 7 914's (still have Huey and Papa). And, truth be told, I am still not a huge fan of stock, skinny tired, high riding 914's. Sure, I appreciate them much more, but give me hp, lighten it up, better suspension, etc....THAT's what I love about 914's, they have so much potential, and I can do most of it myself. Simple...I like simple...
(though you would never know it since I've been working on these damn cars for 18 years now and they're STILL not done... )
I've owned a 1974 911S Targa, 1987 944S and currently own a 1983 911SC. I love my SC and could care less what anyone thinks. I buy what I like and that's it. Once I get my GT clone on the road I can start making comparisons. They are all good in their own ways.
My tail dragger...started out as a brown 80SC...I did a few "factory part" modifications.

I made the plunge last August. 1987 Carrera.
Who knows... since my Virago got totaled by an idiot driver, I may "come back" to another 75 1.8...
My first Porsche was a 85 911 Targa. I've wanted one ever since highschool when I rode in a friend's Carrera. I bought it about six years ago.
A couple years later I bought the 74 914 which I autocross and time trial, and last year I bought a 03 996. I left out the 944 and 924S. I could hang out with the 911 or 944 crowd, but I like the 914 community because they're special . So far I've haven't sold any of the Porsches.
I was a 912 dude before the 914

Heck, I'm partway through a clutch replacement on Lisa's 82 911SC...
