I was going to switch to an autometer fuel level gauge but I guess something like ohms matters. (lol) does any one of the top of their head know the standard ohms a fuel level sender sends?

Does it vary based on years?

you will need to measure ohms both topped off and empty tank to get the full range, then make sure you find a gage that matches. easy to measure with an ohm meter, remove the overflow tank to get at the wires.

believe I tested one before and got around 75 omhs full 5 empty. Someone else can chime in with exact numbers.

Summit racing sells an 11 inch tube sending unit with the exact same dimentions as the stock one. Mounting holes match up too. You will need longer allen screws 5x25mm. I bought the 0-90 GM sender for mine.

This is real close. Mine measured 3 ohms empty and 73 ohms full. The VDO sender will not work with Autometer. The closest Autometer is the Chrysler 10-75 ohms but will still not work great, tried it.

I know that standard GM is 0-90 as long as your in between the range I think your good.....But Im no expert....

I ordered my FuelSafe Centroid sending unit to be a 75 ohm / 6 ohm (full/empty) to match my stock 914 gauge.

You have to use the tube style. Too many obstructions in the tank. You will love the tube style, just bolt it right in. It does not have the terminal for the low fuel light and you will need to buy five 5x25mm machine screws. The 11 inch tube fits perfectly!

That is the exact one! I am using the Autometer programmable full sweep gauge. My gauge is programmed for 0-90 GM, but any GM gauge will work with that tube sender. The 5 hole are not concentric, you will need to "clock" it to line up with the holes. No modifications other than changing the wiring to ring terminals and longer screws. Oh wait, I did have to clearance the bottom of my expansion tank slightly, the tube sending unit is slightly taller above the tank. I just fliped the ex-tank upsidedown on a soft pad and used a hammer to dimple slightly above the sending unit. Can't even tell...
