I got to thinking about this while looking at the awesome pics of the WCR. Since the world is set to end in Dec 2012, Any interest in a Mid America meet that year? Something the east and west coasters might attend and have a HUGE week long blowout ? Maybe I'm just dreaming big here, but I figure in the next 2 years a lot of you could get your cars done ( not me ) and is far enough off to make solid plans for vacations. Maybe we could even make a 914 crap...errrrr crop circle in a corn field.

Oh, oh!!!!
Let's do it in New Madrid MO, so when the earth opens up there at the site of that huge 1811-12 earthquake that made the mighty Mississippi flow backwards, we'll all get sucked/dropped down into the magma just like in the movie!!!!
There's a theme for ya!
... plus the Ozark Mtn roads east of there have some great curves!
Yes, and my strong vote would be for renting the track at Indy for the event...
I would be very happy to lead the charge on this if there is interest.

This is hilarious. I love the idea.
2012? I'm still recovering from the Y2K party ........................... Well, THAT was a waste of perfectly good doom predicting ......................
The Cap'n
Y2K was a Bill Gates plot to sell more computers using his Microsoft products!
Between those Nostrodamus end of the world in 2000 calculations, & the circular Mayan calendar for the the 2012 one - I'm getting dizzy!!!!
Geeee, what if that 52 year calendar just starts over in 2013!??
..... then we'll all be sittin' around with egg on our 914s!!!!
I contacted IMS to see what the track rental cost is for a two day event.

I think 22 Dec 2012 is purely arbitrary. The guy carving the calander ran out of room. Anyone think to flip it over to see if the calander continues? Cool idea though Scotty.

I'm in. Indy is perfect. Just a couple of hours from my place. I think I can even have my car done in 2 years.
How is Indy for you left coasters ? I'm trying to find a happy medium for all, that will alos provide some great drives, and track time would be a great plus. Looks like I'll start an official poll on this one.
Wichita, KS is midpoint between Seattle, Miami, SoCal, Maine. (courtesy of an online midpoint calculator).
Hey, they filmed "The Day After" in Kansas City.
Actually, I'm outfiting my teener with floats and gonna ship it to the Himalayas and ride the flood out.
Great ideer. I'll put the track rental fee on my VISA since by the time the bill comes due it won't matter anyway. Hmmmm..wonder if I kin git my limit raised.
Lotus_65 Paul brought this up a couple months back. I'm sure he would be on board for this. I would help get it rolling. Isn't it like some 40th anniversary of something?
Rich, Find out what insurance is required for a group. Maybe the track will hold an event and individual insurance will surfice.
Rich or Paul, put your heads together. I think Paul did some of this leg work already. I remember something about Paul contacting the track already.
Not sure which thread is still the active -- but to which 'track' do you refer? Indianapolis has three other venues in the area that if we wanted to run A/X or lapping, could be suitable. When he was still employed at IMS a few years ago, Joie Chitwood came to our local PCA banquet and I asked him about using the Speedway for something aside Indy 500, NASCAR, and/or F1. I was more referring to ALMS or other race series, but the topic of HPDE was broached. He went into depth about the costs. If anyone remembers F1 here, there was a "Ferrari Challenge" support race where privateers paid $$$$$$$$$ to run their own cars in a "race" on the F1 circuit. That is the kind of money that would be needed, he said, to even get IMS to think about thinking about considering the possibility of perhaps mentioning the thought of might there be a chance that the circuit could be made available. Now they are perfectly happen to cordon off an area of the Museum parking lot for a special paddock if arranged for ahead of time. But not for access to the track surface.
However, I did mention other possible venues. Just to the west of Indy is O'reily Raceway Park and it has a road course. Local PCA used to run club races here until we moved it to http://www.putnampark.com (incidentally, we have our spring HPDE there this coming weekend! Spaces are still open!) which is about 40 miles west of Indianapolis. On the eastside is http://www.newcastleraceway.com/index.shtml which is primarly for karting, but the local MINI club has run cars on their track before.
If lapping is desired, and Indy is the city of choice, I suggest picking a weekend that there is already a club hosting DE and pair up with them. Track rental for a weekend is around $22k at Putnam Park (weekdays are less, but I don't know specifics). That includes some insurance, corner workers, sanitation, crewed ambulance, etc. I don't know what ORP or Newcastle cost (but if there is interest I'll happily make a few calls).
Combine the threads...this will be a megathousand count by the time it's done.
....hmmmmm..... just 22 days after today!
Im curious if ever there was a # for the Brickard rental (road course)?
