Some serious thought going into the heater lever. A cool morning in the NW convince Joe he needs some heat. Blower is not hooked up but he should get a little warm are pumped by the fan. Rich and Geoff are looking it over. Tim and Al are in the background.

al...does that mean you dont like the color?? i have had mine for about 7 months now and i still dont know if i like it...from my friends reactions, they dont know if they like it either.
Yes, I actually love the color . my other calls it that. AL. hey guys catch ya later cause it,s hi ho hi ho of to work I go!
Nothing like working Swing shift as you can sleep on the job!
Man what a nice looking bunch of cars, you'd never know you guys get rain and snow up there.
They don't salt the roads up here but the rain washes over the battery eating up the car. The ones that were taken care of and not driven in the rain alot lasted until now. Only Al's green frog car had a cracked up dash.
My car didn't make it cuz Joe called me this morning to make sure I drove my truck to haul away stuff. I ended up with the short block of the 2.0l Tim and Al were stripping to take it to my place to store util Al can come and get it, next week.
Geoff
al at speed.

wow you guys are the greatest, once again thanks for the help. Guess paying you guys in parts was a good price for about 36 hours of labor. Started the car this morning fired right up.
Hey you guys need to hold an inventory of your tools. Got a real nice ratchet, extension and 13mm socket. someone has my wire strippersand 15mm box end. whose red utility razor is that. Guess that is not to bad for all the assholes and elbows swinging wrenches all day from 4 different tool boxes.
Last thing to do is put in electrical oil pressure gauge and fix turn signals.
Any clues? hazards work but turn signal has nothing.
Joe!
FYI -
The weather sucks east of Moab UT. I got rained on all the way to Vail. At that point it turned to snow until I got all the way over Eisenhower Pass (Continental Divide). The snow wasn't that bad, but if you had to do it in a teener with no heat, it's gonna suck big time. I heard on the radio that the weather report is supposed to be pretty much the same for the rest of this week. Scattered showers which basically means snow in the high country.
I am SO jelous!! Anytime you guys want to have that much fun again, let me know. I am sure I can find that much work to do at 914compound west sound!!
Ya missed a really great time Dino. There was butt cracks , gas and beer galore . Great pic's as usual Geoff . Im going to motivate and get a digital one of these days. It took me a while to give up the 8 tracks Dave gets the grovel under the car award
Have a safe trip Joe.
Tim
I got the wire strippers or maybe I have two of them now cuz I bought mine too. Didnt think you would have crimper kind.
Rachet and 13mm is Dave Hunts, he leaves tools all over place just like my kid.
Turn signals don't work huh, mmmm maybe check the fuses, light bulbs and see if there is power to the bulbs.
If that don't work use hand signals.
Geoff
Joe had said last week that if the weather sucked he would head south. Can one of you guys get this info to him (see above)? If it were me, I'd definitely go south.
I don't have a phone number for him
I left him my name and number to call if he had any problems when travelling through Oregon. I have not heard anything.
CCLINSAR
Hi guys, I just wanted to take the time from my busy schedule to say thanks for the great time on sun. It was nice getting out to see some of this beautiful state that we reside in. you guys rule keep me posted on any future endeavors for I would love to join in also AL
Looks like you guys had fun! I hope you were not actually relying on that brick to hold the car up? Mr. Safety says "arrk!"

Where does Joe live, it looks like North Bend.
Neal
Joe lives in Mississippi.
Has anyone heard from him?
made 850 miles today. Stopped in at my cousins house in ELKO Nevada. Havinf=g a good vist. Had a great trip so far last leg was on route 51 from I 84 to Elko. Real twisty Thought I seen a sign said 914 only
Need to adjust valve in morning and will be on the way to misisssipppi. Stoped to tighten wheel bearing and early this morning like 0500 thought I lunched the motor cresting the pass through the Cascades. Ended up being a wad of sometihing in the fule injection. once it cleared it back to 75 -80 all day long.
Joe called me during the day to say everything was going good!!
Whats the gas mileage??
Geoff
That's great I hope the rest of his trip is uneventful. AL
Darn
I adjusted the valves and checked the wheel bearings. Was that 0.06 or 0.006? Just kinding.
Dave
850 mile days x 4 or 5!!! joe is either going to love his car when he gets home or it will be in the classifieds. the flatlands will get a little boring.
kevin
Thank god for that new ricarro. My ass and hearing (sans interior) would be toast. Still, I would trade being at work for being in that cockpit any day.
Ride on Joe
Tim
WHOOO HOOO!!!!!!
I made it home. Wife said I beter be back for my sons Birthday today. So I pushed the throttle and raced the rain.
Started the last leg at 6am yesterday and arrived here at 3 pm Central time.
got real loose exhaust heat exchangers started as a tick and after 36 hours of stopping for gas and pee them poor old pipes never had a chance.
Just finished washing it up got the 1st layer off anyway.
So who wants to guess how long it took to scrap the "cow catcher" front air dam? and how long it took to break it???? Good thing I watch NASCAR cause I taped it up good ole southern duct tape and hauled ass.
Best run was the 300 miles. sunny warm and 4000 RPM in 5th gear. Best part is NO TICKETS.
So lets close this thread so I can start asking those stupid new 914 questions. (this an't nuthin like the 74 2.0 Carbed car.
I need ANOTHER BEER That ought to do it. Nite ya'll Oh te trip was 3399 miles. Guess that gives me the record till someone else gets a wild idea about a damn car!!!!!
Geez my head still hears that damn 1.7L screaming for mercy.
3399 in 3 days . glad to see you kept to the speed limit .
kevin
Speed recomendation???? I had time to figure out the perfect line Ya know with no radio or nothing. I was gonna ask the cop to make sure the ticket was very legible so I could post it here to prove to you guys how fast I was going. Because the guys at 914.com would never believe a 914 with a 1.7L <_< could do that kinda speed.
Oh gas milage had to pee @ fill up pee @ 3/4 tank and pee again @ 1/2 tank where I would fill up again. 32MPG If I wasn't climbing mountains ALLLL DAY!!!!!!
Great looking car Joe. What did you use to paint the interior? Thinking of using grey
or silver POR15 on mine but not sure if I will have to paint over it for U.V resistance?
Robert
Congrats on the successful completion of your trip, try not to burn this one (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
Guesss we'll have to have another Southeatern 914 club meeting for you to show off your new car....
I am free tomorrow. What is another 700 miles round trip? What time. got to cut the grass 1st. then clean the pool. how does noon sound? Atlanta right?
Great to hear ya made it home OK. The fact you made it is a real surprise considering the only person who thought he knew anything at all about 914s was Geoff. The rest of us put on a good act. Gives me some confidence to try to get to Cali this summer.
Seriously, it was great to meet you and give you a small hand with the car.
Dave
Joe, what happened to the cow catcher that tim and i worked so diligently to install? I am so happy to see you made the distance in good time. my wife and I made it from the east coast to wa. in 4 days/3000 mi w/a beat up uhaul and a dual axle car trailer in tow. You da man. anyway it was a pleasure to meet you and thanks again for the engine!! AL
my guess. cow catcher. went south in oklahoma, coffee/pee break, sidewalk. it was under some tension. i don't think it would have taken much for it to crack.
kevin
Yeah, you,re probably right! anyway see you tommorrow kevin! AL
Colorado, the morning after getting snowed on. I even angled the car to get out of the hotel parking lot. 5:45 am still dark just woke up couldn't really see shit yet. Drove non stop from there to here.
Gonna put the 2.0L limited edition after market one hanging under the fiberglass bumper. Bet that will fit like crap too.
Hey Ya'll keep your eyes open for a drivers side head light frame piece. you know the one that is all buggered up. gettng the head light to aim straight took all the ajustment and still wasn't exactly right.
You're here!? Dam I miss ya!Oh well.Welcome to Colorado! If you don't like the weather, wait a couple of hours.
If I ever mention driving my 914 through Colorado again somebody please remind me of the freaked out weather. I tried to contact all the members along the way who volunteered to bail me out. Guess we didn't get the wires connected right.
