I guess we Canadians can build some nice motors. Looks really nice!
So far...
Polished crank
New crank bearings
New rod bearings
New rings
New valves
New valve guides
Heads blasted and polished (just because I can)
Old cam still in spec.
Electronic Ignition in rebuilt distributor
All tin glass beaded and painted (no Powder up here )
All stock
Wow, never thought it would take so long to assemble the auxillaries. I started with the block and heads assembled and most of the engine tin last Saturday AM. 10 1/2 hours later, I had the intakes, hoses, FI fuel lines, engine tin, alternator, and injectors installed. Definately not a water cooled engine. Tomorrow I will work on the engine electrical. Its amazing how things look different cleaned, painted and almost 5 months from disassembly. But thanks to Haynes and a few pictures off this site I think I will have it all back and running soon.
The only thing that concerns me was the hack job hot wiring that was on the engine when I took it apart. Who knows why they did it but I might soon find out.
Looks good Doug!
Looks great!
Did you paint the pushrod tubes? hmm, normally don't see that.
Hope you used new injector seals and bits too.
Geoff
I know for sure he used new injector seals.
Did you use new FI hose? you should.
Black fabric high pressure fuel hose is available and much safer than any old fuel line. The damn stuff develops small cracks which sprays gas on the hot engine, not good.
Please replace by ordering from Brad at HighPreformanceHouse or PP. Maybe HPH has some of that OEM red hose laying around too.
Better safe than sorry when it comes to this....don't want another 914 to burn to the ground.
35lbs is plenty of test fuel pressure.
Geoff
How about those old plastic center tunnel lines?
Good time to replace with the engine out.
L. McChesney
Yes, that hose can be bad even though it "looks" OK.
Doug I'm ordering in a couple of days, PM me if you want some.
I can't get the red smog hose, only black.
OK you all win. I took the old fuel line off and replaced it all with new FI hose. I will look into that braided stuff later. I want to get the car running first.
As for the tubes, yes I painted them. They looked pretty ratty so I figured they could only look better in black.
