914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Help with rear bearing installation

Posted by: kpfoten Jul 3 2010, 06:41 AM

Hi--

I installed my rear bearings per the PMB Performance video (freezer, rubber mallet, and shop press), and also installed the rear hub (freezer helps this too!).

One bearing is as smooth as silk during the rotation and the other has a faint noise, only described as a "scrape" at one spot during the rotation of the hub.

I didn't think I trashed the bearing putting it in?? Should I order another one?

First question I would ask is if you have the axle stub in place and torqued.

It could be a small deformation of the retaining plate rubbing against the axle stub if not.

I wouldn't trash a new bearing if you think all went well with the installation.

Thanks--I haven't re-installed yet. I just was spinning it by hand while the arm was out of the car. I'll torque down and see how it goes!

I meant to say hub in the second statement.
