Well, I wonder what the average demographic for 914 owners would be.
At 28, I'm not the youngest here am I?
im 27
so your not the youngest and yet i know there is at least another person younger than myself. probably more.
I will be 60 in Oct. 2nd 914. First was 76 in 76.
I was 25 when I bought my 72 914 NEW!
Cannot believe what the last 3 years have done to my body, but the '72 WILL fire this year!
Pat
Turned 48 two months ago - bought my first '73 2.0 914 in 1982 a couple of months before my 20th birthday.
34 until November.
30 for 9 more months. My car is only 5 years older than me.
It will be 62 next month, almost as old as dirt.
Hi, my name is Lennie, I am 45 years old and a 914 addict.
I was 20 then I bought my 914. You do the math.
just turned 21 a week ago.... got my first when i was 15... im on my second now.
Bought my first 914 when I was 22 back in '83. Now I am 48 and own my 6th 914.
Crap, when I was a kid we ran when ever a velociraptor was spotted ! (rim shot)
I'm 58 and have owned this '73 since '83 and it got a six in '87.
non of your business punk! john kennedy was killed a week before i was born.
I'm 30. Well, at least I was 34 years ago.
Slits is STILL older.
31
51. First 914 (a '75) at 20 in 1979 (I'm only on #2)
I am 61 and my son is 22. Looks like I am not the oldest and he is not the youngest 914 teener here.
Somebody has got to be in their teens.
I sold some part to a guy recently who is 85 with a 914 and he wanted the parts gauranted until he was 92. He is the oldest 914 owner I know.
It is great to see the appeal they have over many generations.
Bruce
I'm 21 now I was 16 when I joined here.
22 now, bought my first when I was 15. On my 4th now, still have the first, third and fourth ones.
35 my 914 is only 2yrs older than me and i will prolly be 45 before its off of those jackstands it came equipt with.
I have been 28 for 28 years.......My first 914 was a cherry little 1970 which I bought in 1976. I have had 7 of them so far and still have 6 of them....my love for these little relics runs deep. I am glad I took a turn from the British cars I had before........MG's and Triumph's
I'm 62. I was 29 in 1977 when I bought my first, a '72. I've had 3, picking up the latest (last) one in 1983, a '76.
At this point, I can't imagine being without a 914, jack stands and all!

Interesting to see that like other special interest cars (especially Porsches) 914 ownership isn't a demographic at all. I'll be 55 in September.
Lets see...
2010 - 1965 = 45
I was 72 ,on the 26 of June. My 914 is in the garage , NOT on jack stands ready
to go anywhere! The driver however isn't. I will probbly get to take it only to Garold
Schaffer's cook out swap this year. Thats a damn shame. The mind is willing but
the body isn't. Owned it since Oct. 2000, and many many dollars ago. It looks
like this will be the last yr.,family wants me to pass it on to someone younger
who will be able to enjoy it. Not looking forward to that at all. Oh yea the 914
is rust free, I'm Not. Dave
i've heard two 15 year olds (good job). but i think kenny- the original orange914- has that beat
he was 14 and picked up this p.o.s. with his paper route $
everybody say awwwwwwwww
I'm not even at the legal drinking age.. I'm 19 and have had my teener since I was 17 haha
I was 11 years old when my '73 left the factory...bought my first one in 1985...
Alex.
Am 45 an my teener is a '73. shit, the car runs better than i do
My teener was made in the same month/year I was, April 1974. That makes it 36.

Well I was 19 when I got my 911, 26 when I got my 914.
Started with Beetles at 16, so I've never had a car my age.
25 here. Bought the 914 4 years ago to go racin.... After 3 years of trying to get the car off the jack-stands and out to the race track, I gave up and bought a Miata.
...j/k This is my first full season in the 914.... and it's broken down right now.
Mark D.
I'll be 50 next week ! Got my first a 71 6 in March of 79 totaled it in July way to young for such a nice car. I've had 55 other cars since ( race and street ) wife bought
current 73 as project for me, I wont be with out one until I can no longer drive.
Hi my name is Dave and I am an addict.
Born in 1936. Saw my first Porsche about 1955 and was absolutely in awe that something that small (compared to its U.S. contemporaries) and beautifully finished existed. Sometime in the 80s I got my first Porsche 914 and am on my third presently. The love continues but sadly my son could care less and my grandsons are too young to be responsible enough to own it.
I'll be 63 this month. I better go sit down!
Turned 28 in April, blegh...I wonder who our tallest member is? At @ 6'5 I think I have a good shot.
32 here... and the teener has 6 years on me. The 3 months I spent between getting the Volvo and the 914 was the longest I've gone without a VW in the garage in nearly 15yr
I did a survey of all my engine purchasers one year and the average age was 54...
Turned 54 last month. I bought my first 914 11 years ago (still have it). I've owned a bunch of 2nd 914's since then & hope to own a few more.
I´m 45 and bought my first and only 914 in Los Angeles when I was 32 on a vacation.
I live in Drammen Norway and still drive my unrestored 914 during summer time. It is still unrestored (It has previously been repainted and lost its orange colour to black). The original 1,7 L lost a valve and has been replaced with a Europeen 2 L 100 HP.
I remember when kennedy got shot. I was home working under a 39 chev hotrod with a loose flywheel. I didn't have my first vw yet, it's a 58 I got about 1965 or 66. The 914 is pretty new to me I've only had it for about three years it will also be a hotrod I hope. I felt as good at 50 as I did at 40 as I did at 30 but things are slowing down now some but I can just think about a approach to a problem a little better. I do have two sons that are car guys, the youngest is a real car guy, he can and is applying his education to the hobby and is getting a big jump on things as compared to my long journey. I had to hide most of my tools from him when he was 5. He is like having a automatic calculator on hand when he is around. It's funny I can add, multiply and subtract faster than he can but give him a scientific calculator and he will overwelm me pretty quick. Ask him the cfm and lbs of fuel required for a 400hp 2.9 at 7500 with a given ve and he knows exactly how to compute it. Young people in hotrodding have the advantage if the government doesn't ruin life for them.
The newest challenge is to convert the hotrods to natural gas liquid I guess.
I'm 57, and am happy to hear I am old enough for one of Jake's engines! First saw a 914 in 1973 at a dealership and wanted one since, especially a 73 for obvious reasons, got one in 2008. Just finished a 1000 mile plus trip that was trouble free, the more it runs the better it gets. I am a professional driver and have driven a lot of different vehicles over the years and the 914 is the one that brings out the biggest shit eatin grin. Looking forward to my first PCA cruise this coming weekend, James Smith from Maine is also attending with his beautiful six, I'm sure we will have pics to post next week.

Interesting how many 'bought my first' way back when. Me too - sig says it all. I was 19 when the first car was born.
Damn - just looked at my own sig. I've been farting around with the new car for 3 years! That does it. By the end of the month it has to be on the road!
56 here. I must be pretty average since I sent my engine to Jake Raby 2 years ago when I was 54. There's something about having the kids out of college and on their own that allow the finer things in life.
I got my first 914 in 1978 and have owned 4 others since, although not continuously. The current one will probably be my last. I just can't see a Raby-engined 45-year old 914 making a good post-retirement daily driver. Especially in Vegas where we expect to be.
I got my first and current 914 in 1987 when I was 17.
That will make me 40 this year and I agree about the "EMPTY NEST" 914 time as I have a 4 yr old and a 1.5yr old.
I see some people do amazing things while still having young ones, but I can't do it.
My brother in law got me hooked on 914's at 18 and I bought my first one at 21 and sold it and now I have my second one and I am 23 now.
41, had my first 914 when I was 20, lived in Germany at that time and enjoyed the Autobahn
Now working on my Bumblebee and hope to have it running around the end of the year.

I'm turned 71 in June of this year. My first 356 I bought it in 1975 sold a short time latter should have done that that. My first 914 was purchased in 1978 in Houston Tx, sold it when I returned to Saudi Arabia. Bought my current 914 2.0 5 years ago when I retired. Its finished now and I'm driving it now. That my story and I'm sticking to it. I glad I'm not the oldest here.
Is this the second time we've had a thread like this? I swear I answered it once before but I don't see my response.
Anyway - I'm 32. Bought my first 914 - my first/only impractical "extra car" - last fall.
I can't really explain why, but since I was in High School, I've always talked about owning a 914. After the second kid arrived (last March), I realized it was "now or not til mid-life crisis" and decided to jump at the opportunity. Both kids love it, although they haven't been for rides. Took my wife for an alfresco drive Friday in beautiful weather and finally won her over too.
35h, for those of you old enough that remember programing in hex
49......
First 914 owned, a 71 1.7 from late 79 to early 81. Man I understand now that youth was/is truly wasted on the young. And thank you Skip for showing me the light!!
Second 914 I have now owned 2.5 yrs and don't see me parting with it very easly...
KP
I was either 13 or 14 when I got mine. Cant remember now. Im 23 now and still got the darn thing.
How old?
Mentally or physically?
I got mine at 14 and a half...
I'm 19, have three 914's, got my first when I was 15.
25
Got my 914 when I was 15, now I'm 27... Man I've had it for 12 years!
Actually I glad that I'm old enough to not need hex. When I used hex life wasn't near as much fun.
I'm 24. Last year I was going to buy a classic Beetle and convert it into an electric car. My dad said get a Porsche instead. So I did, then dropped the electric conversion idea since it's too much fun to drive (despite having no horsepower).
If I can get heater and A/C into it, along with a real engine...I'd be pretty happy with it.
Chronologically = 36
Mentally = 15
Physically= usually either 18 or 80. Depends on the day and what I'm doing
Cosmically = timeless
Had my first 914 for about 12 years and is still sits behind my parents garage....under a tarp.....next to the last 2 I picked up......
Damn shame I've probably had 10-12 914's and never had one that was roadworthy
me - 34, bought my 1st 914 8 years ago, the current one 7 years ago.
Presently, I'm 32.
43. Bought my car when I was 19.
I celebrated my 10th anniversary of my 43rd Birthday in January.

I can't remember.
I am younger than SLITS
I'm 53. Had my first ride in a 914 in 73 and fell in love with it.
Got my first 914 in 2003; totaled it in 2005; bought my 2nd 914 in 2005; bought my first 911 in 2009.
39...I realized the 914 purchase last year may have been the start of my mid life crisis (although I had always wanted one).
Mid-life crisis checklist:
Porsche - check
Sudden interest in fitness & health - check
20 something year old girlfriend - still working on this one...
51 today
So far without doing too much math, I have an average age of 44.
30... my 914 at 20 turned out to be my quarter-life crisis car.
41 here. on my second 914. Today I feel 60. The older I get, the more I feel wrecked getting out of bed in the morning.
36 here...I bought my first 914 when I was 19. Still feel 19 most days...
Bought my first 914 in 1974 at 22 years of age. My -6 came along when I was 25, and after a few 911s, another 914 (that I converted to a -6) was added to the collection about 10 years ago.
I guess that makes me another owner almost older than dirt. Other than my knees, I still feel like that 22 year old!
You have to grow old, but you don't have to grow up!
4 years younger than my car.
I was born in the summer of my 27th year. ooop no that's a song!
Got my first 914 in '78 when I was 21.
61 last june. My 914 is back on the street now after a four year hiatus in the garage. Is anyone graphing this data?? It could be interesting.
Born in '71
Age = 50
First 914 in 1976, second one came along in 2008.
I'm 30 now.
36 working towards having owned my age in 914's
Just turned 49, Dammit it's going by too quickly....that's not me in the avatar
born 1956......ouch!!
66 going on 18 ...
First 914 I owned was a '71 bought in '76. No fool like an old fool.
I created dirt for your enjoyment.
I'll be 58 on the 22nd of this month. Got my 71 "jack stand trophy" 2 years ago. Still dabbling with A-C VWs.
56, still going strong!
I'll be 41 this year. I took my first ride in a 914 when I was 13. It was a 16 hour trip with my uncle and his buddy; yeah, I sat in the middle the whole way. A couple of months after that trip, he and I had a couple of chics riding in the car with us. Did you know you could put 4 people in a teener? I've owned mine going on 6 years. Wish I had bought one sooner.
I remember when Elvis Presley was a comunist plot to subvert the morals of American youth. He got more respectable after he went into the army.....
65 in a couple of weeks.
First ride in a 914 was at the dealers in 1973, couldn't afford it... Had my car for about 15 years now...
Harvey
I am 58, saw my first teener in 73, thats why I wanted a 73. I was a young Private in the Air Force with enough money for a milkshake and a movie, loved the car from that moment on, should have bought one in 77 when I was in Germany, bought an Audi instead, not knocking it, the Audi was a great car. I am now the proud owner of a 73 2.0 which is all original except the stereo, got it in 2008, wife found it on line; it was my 20th anniversary gift.

My Name is Benjamin Button
Seriously, though.......................
First 73 2.0L in 76 after 3 years of torture from Steve Gaglione for not having one. That was Oly Blue. Beat the living crap out of that car.
Second, 73 2.0L in Bahia Red - Beat that one from 81 to 84 in STL - Left for dead
Third, 73 2.0L Black - Beat it to death from 84 to 88 in STL - Certified dead
Fourth, 75 2.0L White - Ran initially, but turned it into a parts car and sold it off
Fifth, 73 2.0L Signal Orange = Orangina LIVES!
Sixth, 75 2.7L Palma Green Metallic Conversion - Sold it
Seventh, 72 2.2T White Conversion - Track car and it is primer until I decide what color it will be.
Eighth, It will be another 6 Conversion - Looking for one quietly, but I think I am pretty picky.
Gaglione calls it a disease.
I agree

Don't Reply!
Ripper is stalking us!
He's looking for fresh meat for the slab,
And trying to figure out how little he can offer our survivors for our cars....
He has a plan for world-wide domination and control of ALL 914's!!!!!
Seriously, I have had the fortune to have sat in several classes taught by Dr. Werhner Von Braun, known many of the moon rocket scientists, seen much of the preliminary Space Shuttle project documents, and have spent several informal sessions swapping dirty jokes with Dr. Edward Teller.
Guess my age!
Turned 71 in August. Bought my 914 in 96, on the road (rebodied) since
99. Drive from Florida to Petit Le Mans regularly.
