So you six guys know I had aside shift trans in te 70 car. Shifted like crap, bushings were shot.
So this morning I get it up in the air and replace them. nice and snug right, so now it won't go into 1st and reverse because the rod hits the early engine mount bar.
Yanking it all out again and replacing the bar with a late bar. Just came in for a beer.
Yanking the heat exchangers to replace with 2.0L SSI and 2.0L bursch muffler. This should put the tail pipe in line with the cutout in the rear valance. Them SSI pieces are ssssooo much lighter than them ratteling boat anchors.
Nuthing like wrenching on a teener.
good idea Joe. I saw enough of those old HE's. Only good thing was it was easy to line up the plumbing cause there was an inch of play in the old ones.
Dave
Ya had heat didn't ya all the way home!
Bitch, bitch....sound like on of those wine and cheese crowd who got WD 40 on their tires.
Geoff
Late model engine mount bar in. Why is it never easy... finger tipped the nuts on the two brackets to the case without seeing what I was doing. I just live for this stuff. No play in the shift linkage Now those custom trans mounts have the ass end of the trans just a little too high now and the shift rod barely nicks the top edge of the hole. I will have to do some more garage engineering to get it down.
Now getting the 2.0L SSI heat exchangers on is little more of a fight. those welded on angle pieces are not straight 1/8" off and are really tough to bend.
At least I am getting it all cleaned up under there as I go.
Ya Ya had heat not bitching Geoff just can't leave the wrenches alone. WD40 is for kids. :finger2: The shifting did suck, should be better now don't even squeak anymore going into 1st.
Don't think I will get to the Turbo tie rods till Monday. Couldn't get the rods to budge so looking forward to trying to get them off.
Did a string to the front tires and confirmed toe out. not much tread left, Good thing I didn't have to go to south Florida. Shure did steer straight and turn like a race car.
Sounds like fun joe! I just got done changing out my shift bushings also shifts like a well oiled mach. now!you know us engineers , nothing like a well oiled machine! AL
Sounds like you got the car in shape now. Good work, Joe.
hell there wasn't much tread on those front tires when you left Joe, so they must be down to the steel belts! haha
Geoff
Not down to the wear bars yet but close. Time to start looking for a deal on tires to put on the 2.0L fuchs. 205/50 of course. Sort of fond of Kumho ecsta. running them on the big car good stick and fair wear.
And to think I just started throwing parts at the car. Haven't even spent money on it yet. Couple cut up knuckles so I must be doing something productive.
I think I will make the original drivers seat into my office chair. Ya know when I'm surfing the club at work I want to have good back support.
