914World.com _ 914World Garage _ GPR/West Coast Garage BBQ/Open House/Super Sale

Posted by: hwgunner Aug 11 2010, 11:02 PM

GPR and West Coast Garage are teaming up to bring you an end of summer BBQ/Open House/Super Sale. September 18th from 9am till whenever both GPR and West Coast Garage will be open for you to check out our huge stash of parts. There will be two locations, about 5 minutes apart here in Santa Maria, Ca. GPR will have a free Tri Tip BBQ and sodas and maybe some cheap beer. West Coast Garage will have the wit and humor of the Krusty One.

Between the 2 of us we have enough parts to last a lifetime. Many 914, 914/6, 911 and 924 parts. If you are looking for anything in particular post it here and one of us will pipe in. Everything must go and no reasonable offer will be refused.

For GPR you may also just stop by any time between now and Sept 18th and take a look around. I am really motivated to get rid of everything that I have as far as used items. I also have lots of new stuff that will be sold at Super Sale Prices. Here are a couple pictures. This is just one of 2 warehouses that I have that will be open to look around in. Mark and I have already started opening all the boxes and separating things and laying them out so they can easily be gone threw. I am sure the sale will spill into the parking lot at my location.

If you have any questions just let me know. I am sure John will put in his .02 also.

Thanks
jonathan

HI

Quote "For GPR you may also just stop by any time between now and Sept 18th and take a look around."

Is this the same GPR (as in GPR Auto Parts) that was or IS in San Luis Obispo?

On Tank Farm Road?

Not too long ago I was in San Luis one Sunday in that area and went looking for GPR (on Tank Farm) and never found it.

Anyway, where are you located in either San Luis or Santa Maria?

Looking for a rear valance at the very least.

And after seeing and hearing that Mulholland Drive video posted recently, I realize I also want any six cylander engine biggrin.gif

Damn that was awesome, but.....In my dreams!

Just HAD to move close to my shop .....................

We're looking forward to seeing a lot of the So Cal, Mid Cal, and even Nor Cal 914 folks. Last chance to steal my stuff before GAF in October. After that, I'm not planning to do swap meets on the same scale as I have in the past. Bring a truck!

Mark and I are working our buts off and getting things ready. Spoke to John also and he is doing the same. Found some great stuff today. Got enough brake backing plates to give for to anyone who shows up. Also found about 16 boxes full of wiring harnesses. Lots of suspension and engine parts too. I will take pictures tomorrow to show the progress. Remember, the 18th is the BBQ but you can stop buy any time before that. I am here Monday through Friday from 8-6 and you can call me if you want to come buy on Saturday or Sunday. I will make the time for you. driving.gif

FYI I got three recommendations for place to stay Sat night if anyone is also thinking of driving home Sunday:
Of the three, The Rose Garden has a $72 rate and located at 1007 E Main St, I think this is not far from GPR. I'm looking into a coastal inn as well

The other 2 places were >$100

Smoking meat over low indirect heat ain't REAL Barbecue, it's baked/smoked cheap cuts of meat. Real Barbecue is meat roasted over a seriously hot fire, carefully controlled, and served the way the originators of the term (Vaqueros) "barbecue" did it ..............Rare.

I'm in the south south Bay area. If anyone in the area would like me to pick up some parts for them, let me know.

You could build a few 914's and maybe a 911 or two with the all the used stuff these guys have hanging around.

By the very least you could weld together a nice 1 bedroom studio from their combined collection of body parts.

Wiring harnesses anyone?

Thinking of re-creating burning man out of 914 steering wheels?

Hi TomT

Was just at Gaviota yesterday for a day at the beach (well afternoon)

We have been going there regulary for years.

Regarding camping there, well its not the nicest place to camp, kinda hard packed, good thing you have a camper.
As I drive by the camp spots, its like some of the folks are camping right on asphalt. Cant be, but it sure looks that way. But the beach and pier are great. Such a a nice spot.

Regarding Jalama, beautiful place, really spectacular beach and scenery.
Everyone should see it at least once.
Plus the famous Jalama Burger at the camp store. People drive out just for that.
BTW, its a beautiful drive out there, plan on at least 30 mninutes from the Hiway 1 turnoff.

Campground can be crowded and feel a bit tight as the spaces are clsoe together.
But the real problem is, its first come first served. You cant reserve a spot in advance.
And I bet theres still a good few folks lining up in the morning waiting to get a spot. Kinda hard to plan around if you just have to have a spot.

Hope this info is not too much of a disapointment. dry.gif

regards

Curt

Curt & Greg - Thanx for the info.

Gaviota had filled up since I posted that - so I guess we'll give Jalama a try, as I've wanted to for years since a buddy from Lompoc back in college suggested it. Back then IIRC it was rough, no/limited facilities & FREE - but that was the dinosaur ages when 914s were new cars! biggrin.gif

The good thing with a Westy is you can just about park it anywhere & "camp", & block out the wind & much of the close-by "neighbors" while inside. smile.gif

We've done Pismo SPs - both on & off the sand - as well as the little County one at the airport end, but wanted to stay closer to SM & try something new for my son, since it was pre-kids the last time I stayed at El Cap, Gaviota, etc. & we did Carpenteria last summer.

Mark, we'll be up sometime Friday through Monday (camping through Sun nite), & as long as my son sticks with the plan to come up (21 year old - so ya never know!), I'll be giving the Cap'n the assist with his Jetta transport to SM.

I wouldn't say Santa Maria is a stones throw from Cal Poly, but whatever you say. Of course you can come hang out! For you, we offer easy credit terms.... biggrin.gif
Oh yeah, don't turn your back, or we might fill your car with cra...., ah, um, parts. smile.gif

Thanx Rob - that's my back-up plan, or even a short sleep at the rest stop on the 101 just past/at "the bend" if we get there too late for a spot. IIRC they also have transient overflow at Jaluma, which works fine in the Westy.

Montana de Oro is another favorite of ours if they have spaces, but nothing open this weekend. sad.gif
We may try there for Sun nite?

Cool! It will be great to see you too Bill. We'll be driving Tricia's 914-6. See the pic in my avatar. My blue 73 is being 're-engineered' after breaking at an event. (tried to hold 6800 RPM down the straight at BW) D-oh!

Hi Mark,

Any plans firming up for the Fri or Sat get-together?

Tricia and I are in, and will be driving her "street legal" 914-6 in our avatar : )

Let us know, it could be an epic Central Cal Coast 914 event!

P.S. I think we should all bring a keg and hang at the Cap'ns until dawn

John, you can thank me later : )

There's room in the parking lot just outside our fence, and various levels of dining quality within easy walking/driving distance. (Mickey D's is 100 ft away, great SM style BBQ 3 blocks down, good Mexican food about the same.)

As for the parts I have available, they're NOT in any way organized, but I can point you to where they are. I just want 'em gone, so dickering is expected.

Take the Main street/166 West exit. Left at the stop sign in front of IHOP. Left at the stop light at the shell station (this puts you on main street). Look for The Rose Garden in on your right, not long after Jack in the Box.

From there to get to GPR, head west on main street. Left turn on Miller. Go 2 streets on your right to Oak Street and make a right. We are third building on the left..... with all the smoke!!!!!!!!!!!

I once BBQ'd Tri Tip Santa Maria style for a family from KC. They told me that it wasn't BBQ because the grill wasn't covered and there was no sauce, blaa blaa.
It was so good that the dad cried.

SM stye BBQ is not to be missed.
It's a celebration of top quality fresh ingredients, it does not need sauce to hide anything.

This should be a great event. I could not make it on the 18th, but did go to meet Jonathan and Mark last weekend. 4 hours from my house in San Ramon (Norcal - East bay) and the same coming back. You south bay guys can make it in a little more than 3 hrs.

Jonathan gave me a personal tour of their shop and a superb deal on some 914 parts. He is loaded wwith parts and very generous in his pricing. For anyone that can go and is only thinking about it, be assured it will be well worth your time. You only have yourself to blame if you don't leave there with more than you came. The food will be a big plus!

If we make it up to SM in time after a check in at Jaluma Beach, we may swing by the shop, otherwise we may just stay tonite & eat at the campsite......or maybe not?

My son Michael has never seen my 73 2L running - i.e.: he's never rode in one, let alone driven one - so he's a "914 virgin" - so this should be interesting for him & a last hurrah before he goes off to Army Basic in January! biggrin.gif

I think our headqtrs is moving to SD from Chicago, but I won't be asked to move, and without a package not likely I will move.

Always sounds like a great group beerchug.gif

Hope our paths cross someday

Yes, I made the trek down even knowing that Greg (race914) was going to be there. poke.gif At least he brought his lovely wife, Tricia, and her beautiful 914-6. It was great meeting everyone especially Jonathan and Mark. I made off with some suspension parts an engine case and various other good stuff. Jonathan and Mark gave out some raffle prizes and I won 4 qts of Brad Penn oil, a filter and some valve cover gaskets enough to do a complete oil change!!!

It was great being around 914 people for a change. From now on GPR will be my first call when I need parts.

OBTW, Jonathan, on the way home I remembered I need a a rear oil seal for my new engine build. I'll email you.

Thanks for the great deals and fantastic BBQ.

You guys that didn't make it sure missed out.

Well, it is all over and I would say that it was a big success. Great to meet new people and see see some old friends. Want to thank all the guys that made the trek from the north and the south and the locals. I must also thank Jim and Mike from IMC. Thanks for comming up.

Mark, thank you also. I never would have made it this far without your help.

And last I want to thank my wife, who will never read this but still deserves a big thank you. No one would have had anything to eat if it weren't for her. So, Thank You Jeannie!!!!!!!! beerchug.gif

agree.gif with all the feedback so far! smile.gif

Being relatively new to the group here (not new to 914s), it was nice to put faces to the screen names & get to know you all a bit more!

I also scored some great deals & porked-out on some great eatz! You snoozers REALLY were the losers.

Greg - we did get in at the Oceana county RV campground on the inland side of 1 tonight, then we'll try Jaluma Beach tomorrow night. Thanx for the tips!

Jonathan, Mark & Cap'n we'll see y'all Monday to pick up the parts & shuttle the Jetta to SM, & big Thanx to you all & Jonathan's wife for the food, advice & parts deals!!!! smile.gif

Cheers All! beerchug.gif

Sounds like a it was a great event. If only I had the time to make the 13 hours drive down sad.gif . I actually wish I could have. Bit to much going on with work to swing it though. Plus I don't need any parts. I'm sure I would find some I just had to have. So better to stay away evilgrin.gif

Food was great ... Jonathan & Mark were cutting deals ... a few showed up and we lied about everything. The Cap'N was a real butthead biggrin.gif , so we got along.

I made it back without blowing tires on the overloaded pickup. Have I mentioned how hard it is to find a fuchin' gas station in The Land of The Rich & Famous (Santa Barbara)? Guess the tree huggers find them unsightly and hide them.

I really want the set of B&B .... arrrrrrrrrrgh .... need money!! (And I forgot to ask about the carb setup ... I need new fishing weights).

Oh, Jonathan ... if the MFI setup comes up missing .... I had nothing to do with it!! blink.gif

Build that ass-stompin 6!

Long day .. 18 hours .. Thanks for the conversation(s) and the fun!

Thanks Jonathan and Mark, the Santa Maria Bar-B-que was terrific and worth the drive. There are so many parts there, you could do a lot of restoration for very fair $$
