914World.com _ 914World Garage _ New Brake Rotors Installed

Posted by: Eddie914 Aug 31 2010, 08:41 PM

New Zimmerman front brake rotors were just installed on my 914/6 3.2 (conversion) DE car. It is using 911SC brakes front and rear with Porterfield R4 race pads.

The old rotors had developed a bad vibration and were worn beyond spec after 5 years of track use, so no chance of having them turned (again).

Should the rotors be run in with new pads or old (60%) pads.

I will be attending a DE day on friday and the new pads need to be heat cycled before the event.

I do not think it is advisable to heat cycle the new pads on brand new rotors.

Your opinions, experiences or expert advise is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Eddie

Use the old pads first. It always works better.

How long does it take to "bed in"/"break in" the new rotors?

Track day on friday. There is a track day tomorow but I CAN NOT make the morning (VERY important business meeting).

Thanks,

Eddie

Nada... use your new pads as "both" need to be bedded in/seasoned properly "together".
