So I bought another 914 ( I think this makes #25) to make into a Track/Auto-X car.
The Transport company told me today that the car will be picked up on 9-11 and delivered on 9-14. How Cool is that? I guess it was destiny that I will be converting this car to a -6.
Pictures on Tuesday, our Holiday
T.C.
It's destiny calling......maybe some of the donor parts will arrive on 9-14 too.....
T.C.
It's time for an intervention, you have been mainlining Porsche parts to long. That shit will kill you.
Badm.
Your killing me ..another one:) Enjoy in good health!
I've recieved only one 914 on 9-14 before, was pretty cool!
Take lots of pics!
...Eat drink & be merry(don't forget mary)
Congrats .
How come when I lived in Tampa I couldn't find any 914's??? And I looked!!
I think therapy should be considered!!
don't know how you pull it off!!
but my wish list for
would be a couple of teeners (big bore sixes)
and well maybe a couple of early 911s
so if you find a therapist, call me
cause i need help too
oh yeah i need a split window panel
and to finish my 59 single cab..too
The Carr® is on the way. The driver told me it would be here 1st thing tomorrow morning, then between 12-2pm, so I expect it around Dinner Time ( or Happy Hour )
T.C.
And... options on many more.
It's here - a day late ( no 9-14 ), Thanks a lot to Wayne 1234 for a great deal. Wayne put a lot of work into this car ( see his " my solid car ain't so solid" thread)
I will be turning this car into a track car - I was turned on to it because it is now so solid. Might be a tad heavy, but I'm confident in my driving abilities.
I will be calling this " RumbleBee" because of it's Yellow/Black theme plus anyone that knows me, nows I put Mega-Phones on my car for a mid-70's ROAR
Coming on the trailer this morning
Dropped off in front of Harbor Freight - Potential Sponsor
might as well wait for 9-16
Some of the Spares
A quick wash, sham-w0w and Blow-Dry
Congrats TC....will be watching the build thread with a certain interest.....
It has no front blinkers????
Underside = Clean as a Whistle
This motor does not drop a leak, runs great- It is in the classifieds, someone is going to get a great Deal
Very cool. What motor are you going to put in it? What else is on the upgrade list?
I've done Interior work in the past, So I tore into it today. Took the seats out (Fairly Good Condition - Will do Houndstooth Inserts as I have a bunch of Material), Put 2 Layers of RamMat, 1 layer of 1/4 inch foam, a layer of Dark Black Perlon. I then reattached the center section of the back-pad with Velcro. For some reason the center section sitting in the Sun created it's own Ghost-Flames - Weird
Some hints of the "RumbleBee ®" future
The Beck Body Kit that I'm getting back. There are only 3 Kits that I know that were ever Made. Two of which went to the Beck kids Randy & Dave. - I owned the Light Blue car a few years ago, sold it to lack of room and am getting the BodyKit from Grasshopper in a couple of weeks
I got UPS yesterday ( Thanks JT & Tom) Rear reinforced Trailing Arms with 5-Lug SC brakes, Hubs etc, Plug & Play
Will be putting 15 x 8&9s' on the car
More pictures tomorrow
T.C.
Also had some Great Comedy today. Steve (smg914 - King of the 471s) stopped by with the GT3RS. He Stalled & Killed it out front. The 914 fired up every time - Thank you very much.
Steve, your Welcome for me helping get that POS on it's way
My - To Do List for the day
Repair shifter - it has an old school short shift that the epoxy broke loose - Check
Mount Black Bumpers w/ best bumper tops I had, also RennenMetal front aux Fog mounts - Check
This actually took me longer than expected - there was only one dog-bone used on the previous bumpers and it took me an hour to locate my bag o 20 dog-bones & bolts
Go to DMV, Title & Register the car - Had to go twice, the real cute girl already cutomers, so I had to do with the Pikers
Assorted other stuff.
Mounted 1 Mirror
Mounted the P/S Seat Belt on the D/S temp as the D/S Belt mech spring was shot
Mounted the Rear Center reflector - I hate these things, but I didn't want to weld up the holes. I drimel'd a hole in the relector & remounted a lock mechanism, getting rid of the electro-buzzer
Got to go pick up the 2.8 Twin-Plug RSR motor tomorrow
T.C.
Dreaming of a Day real soon
I may drop the 2.0 4 Cylinder tomorrow. I have VW guys all over me, but nobody from the World
best ever

Now that definitely looks like a X1/9
Oh, great buy! I wanted to purchase that car but I bought two cars this year already.. I know you buy cars every chance you get but you seem to resell them. When I get stuff it never seems to leave. Do you have a set of those wheels that are on the Beck car?
I kept the Gotti's, Sold them with my 74 Carrera, bought them back & sold them again - the 10"s wouldn't fit anything I had. I have 2 sets of 9"s with Tires - BBS & Fuchs
On the Beck - the tire was petrified, no valve stem and the sidewalls were like a rock
After Refinishing
She stayed in the (somewhat) Air-Conditioned Garage today
Got everything disconnected for the 4-cylinder engine drop ( probably Sunday or Monday as I'm off to Sebring tomorrow)
Also went to the Engine Builders to drop off Air Shroud, Ignition, & Oil-bypass pieces. The New Swiss Valves arrived while I was there. Should be done by the end of the weekend
Crazy putting a $40K engine in a $5K car - I'll let you know, but this was no ordinary $5K car
TC what chain housings are you going to use ?
Well, when I started to make a Leather Dash for the GT, I had an extra cracked dash laying around so I made two.
This car has a dash-cap that I hope is not to much of a bitch to get off - I'm sure somebody can use it.
Four No Mour
I need to put the tools away, but my Favorite beverage awaits
Got Nothing today
I just went to the Bank with the Stack o Benjamins from my engine sale, to make sure they were real.
They were, so I can buy more parts
Starting from the Passenger side, Today I installed outside mirror, RamMat'd the P/S Door, installed vapor shield and installed Door Panel
Installed Near Perfect Rear Hella Lenses, Gave the others away
Garold, Mom's Service Cover looks Great against a Yellow car. I don't know that these are still available, But they are the BEST - Thanks Millie. I bought 2 and can't wear the 1st out.
Steve from Lakeland came by to buy a few parts - and a few for free.
He has.nt joined in the fun here - YET
He has a car that was his Dad's & he A/X's it some now
Wow, Cool, so glad you bought that car.
Ferg
Fitted an Outside mirror on the Driver's Side. It was Bondo'd over & Painted. I had to chisel out the filler, punch from Top & Bottom.
RamMat'd the D/S Door, Put Vapor Barrier & mounted Door Panel (4 Friggin Times til I got it the way I wanted it). The RamMat does add weight, but the "real carr" door thud is cool
Great project! I have always loved this particular car. It's been all over! Now a six.
Great carbon cannondale rush in the background!
The CannonDale is my Engine Guys Trail-Rider - Pretty Cool bike
This is the perfect example of the car Newbies should Buy. Solid as a Rock. Most New Guys think if they buy a $500 car they can fix it. Then it sits on JackStands til they give it away.
This was an under $5K car delivered, I've sold off a lot of what I didn't want. Now it is good platform for what I want to do
That is going to be a great car when you get finished!
Your right about the newbies.although I think they need to stick with the 4 banger. Pretty intense doing the conversion for a fist timer.
I will not have my car together for Petit Le Mans this year. Hopefully next year. Will enjoy watching your progress!
Jimmy
Jimmy, that was my intention for the newbies - buy a car like this and drive the snot out of it vs buying a $1500-2000 car that "needs a little fixing up" that turns into a $8000 car overnight
I bought it for the value - the value it has for me as a super solid that I can turn into a track car quickly
And the value of the parts I knew I could sell (motor, carbs, both gone, Center Console, suspension & brakes, wheels, etc)
Removed what must be the most cracked Dash Top and put in the Leather
What a Pain in the Ass - I led the league today in cuss words
It started getting dark, so I called it a day, will put the Glove box & lower dash pad back in tomorrow
Too late. the Keith Richards dash is in the trash and awaiting pickup
Today, I buttoned the dash back together and put the Interior TargaBar trim in. Someone had installed the rear Targa latches on the wrong sides - it took me a few minutes to figure out why things were not fitting
I also made a Padded Headliner for the Targa Top. If you noticed the Perlon Backpad I put in, it is Jet Black. My source of Perlon ( a custom crate maker for Rock Bands) switched from the tradition 3 tone grey to Black so that's what I'm using. So I glued 1/8" Foam to the inside of the top and then a piece of the Black Perlon. I think it looks very good in this car.
That really looks good!
Anything to help keep it quiet inside the 914.
Sigh, I need to do another steel roof car.
My current 914 is actually really tight and has very little cowel shake, but you can still hear the top squeak if you're on the right road.
Annoying.
Dan, next time the Steel-Roof becomes available, we should go in halves on it. That way we'll never get rid of it. You can have it in the summer & I'll take it in the Winter (my summer)
Wow, you have been busy. I'm very glad you are happy with the car. Too bad that engine got pulled so quickly, you know how hard it is to come by a leak free Type IV I figured it was in its final resting place for a decade or so. . But it was for a very worthy cause That 6 is gonna be sweet. I am so glad you are gonna drive it, and give her some more pep instead of letting her sit. It was a bitter sweet seeing her get trucked away, literally I had blood sweat and tears into that car(sorry for the extra DNA samples) . I'm sure you could tell since I expressed my concerns over the securing of the car on the trailer by the driver. I enjoyed the journey I took with this car. And I can see your renewed enthusiasm for the car, and that makes me confident and happy that it went to a good home.
Looks cool !! I remember those old Beck 914's and actually talked with Chuck about those many years ago and was planning on going to purchase a kit and than plans changed. I always liked that look. Wish those kits were still in production...
Got my Beck BodyKit back - Thanks grasshopper
I had to take the sawzall to it to fit in my Honda Civic Hatchback that was already filled up from my trip to Petit LeMans. But it's OK as I'm not going to use the bumper part, just the flares. But I might cut the front lower lip off and try to use it
The Front
It's Sawzall time Wayne if you lurking in, now is the time to wait til the the next page as I'm cutting into your nice paint job
1st, Blue painters tape over the fender to protect the paint
After some trimming on the Beck Flares, test fit them on the Carr ®
Then the Big Cut
The Same procedure on the Front
The Passenger Side Cut
& the scraps
I will install the rear 5-lug suspension as soon as my Rear Konis come in
I need some 911 Front Hubs in case somebody wants to donate to the cause ( I have Front strut, housings and brakes)
I also finished the Stereo head unit install, then had to take a break to watch the BRays lose to the Rangers
Nice work TC! Keep the pics coming!!
Fired up the Compressor & my 6" Palm Sander and got the paint off the flares
Next I will do final fit & trim before I paint them
If you own a 914, sooner or later TC will buy it and turn it into a /6...
John
Lookin' good, T.C.
My Koni Sport Yellow w/225lb Springs and Perch Kit came in today
So JT, I will be opening those boxes in my Living Room and put the Rear Suspension on Tomorrow
I sand-blasted & painted these 15x9 BBS-Mahles
Also got in some "MIA" JWest RennShifter SideShift Parts
Surprize, Surprize!, a box I found in the Attic had a set of 914-6 Engine Tins - off to the Powder Coaters
Nice find! I may be in Tampa again this week on Thursday. I'll let you know if I can swing by.

Go ahead and open those boxes TC....Tom and I are safely out of the country... boy those boxes of rocks were heavy..... you have more patience than a hospital full of doctors......
As soon as I can fire up the Compressor without pissing off the neighbors I'm on it
I'm trying to picture what this 914 will look like when it's all done. Should be pretty cool!
Can't wait to see the fender on the car.
Damn, I'm trying to figure out what it will look like
Off with the Old (look in the Classifieds for Cheap Stuff)
On with the New
Mama's got's some Meats
Cut the access hole
and made a cover
Is an access hole really needed? Just wondering...as I kind of like my backpad.
Needed? No, it just makes a few things easier.
Here's something else that is not *needed*, a marked pulley. The hole makes it easier to see....best pic I have of this.

It's not a requirement. But on a six if/when you throw a belt or have a plastic dry-cleaning bag rolled up under the belt, you'll spend a lot of time and bust knuckles without easy access.
I've seen plenty of -6 owners who put a belt on the old fashion way (not removing the engine to do it) getting the shims cockeyed, an not getting the belt on with the right tension... or even on tightly. In the latter case the new belt comes off while you're driving.
Life's better with one. Then it's almost trivial to get a new belt on or work on anything else in that area.
The finished cover:
Under construction:
yep
Did a little work before I leave for "The Glen"
Got the front end up in the air so I could get the 4 Lug Fuchs off and ready to send to "00SEVEN" and so I can tear off the front suspension when I get back
New Front End Parts
Front Boges with Koni Sport Yellow inserts from Strawman
Restored front hubs with new bearings and longer studs from Eric Shea/PMB
New Zimmerman ventilated rotors from the Stash
..
BLING
Finished up the suspension & brakes today and got it rolling
The car may be For Sale as my GT is coming home soon. I had a local 911 racer come by today to look at it as he totaled his 68 911 race car & needs to find a home for his motor & wheels. If somebody wants to beat him to the punch, get a hold of me.
T.C.
Car is For Sale as a Roller ( See it in the Classifieds)
My GT is coming home next week, which mean I won't touch this for a quite a while. Might as well goe to someone with a Vision
T.C.
For the record , look TC another Beck kit. 5 ?
