914World.com _ 914World Garage _ help me identify part

I melted the interior light in my car
aparently bumped it on and didn't know it... came back to the car hours later and the plastic lense (as well as wire insulation) were melted.

I've repaired the wires.. but now need to find out what vehicle this style of light comes from.

previous owner "customized" lots of things... and this now fits into a custom wooden frame.

I ordered a replacement from pelican without even realizing that the replacement is oval... but this melted light is square.

So its a Hella..
I'm guessing a different year, or even another VW?
is the 911 lense square?

anybody seen one like this, or know what year of vehicle I should buy this from?
thanks everybody

It's VW because my '70 has a oval cover, unless the later cars had a rectangle cover, but I don't think they do.

Does the whole lens toggle?

I think it might be from a VW bus, later bay window.

I've also seen a similar one as the glovebox light in 70's 911's

i'd worry about why it melted, maybe you should switch to a lower watt buld, or clean up high resitance contacts on the new switch then test it to make sure you dont get a repeat melt down

you always offer anything (the shirt off your back even)
I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm good
Andy had one and is sending it as we speak.

I'll verify the bulb wattage, but I think I shouldn't of left it on for 6 hours...
hopefully that is why it melted, but I'll double check its the right size bulb too

thanks guys!

this car has a custom made back pad, to fit custom seats...
so the stock oval one doesn't cover the re-upholstry job...
the hole is now square....
(I didn't customize it... but now have to match what was there)

Thanks again all
