With the busy summer of weather and claims to be handled, I'm long on vacation and short on time to use it. I can carry over 5 days, and plan to. Can't cash out any extra days. About the only week Nan and I both have off between now and the end of the year is November 8-12. I have some training to attend on November 1-4, (mon to thur) So I requested friday the 5th off to go with the week of 8-12. Now we have a full week, the weekend on either end of the week, and the friday before.

What to do, what to do.

We'd like to have a long drive somewhere fun in the TT. With Star specs on it, a trip to Denver may not be the best idea, but depending on the weather, but a trip thru dillon, frisco, vail, and south along the colorado to moab is one we have done before and would like to do again sometime.

Any ideas on where to go and what to do? We like to travel, site see, national parks, hiking, biking, golf.

I've been thinking the smoky mountains, there are some great roads and cool areas to see, but by then all the leaves will be gone, and it will be more grey than colorful.

Thoughts?

Well, Porsche Palooza is the second weekend in November and is about the 2nd largest Porsche gathering in the country each year. It takes place in Eureka Springs, Ar. in the Ozark mountains. Branson, Mo is not too far away and lots of fun roads to drive. From there you can go many different directions, Smokeys, St. Louis or a number of places. Just a thought. http://www.pca-palooza.com/

This pic will tell all to the trained eye...

Single pipe is a 180hp, (although now chipped it makes a bit more) and no "bird perch" spoiler is a clue as well.

Its a 2000 FWD "pre legal" car. Real drivers thought they handled great. Others in European countries who lifted in a corner at triple digit speeds and spun the cars killing themselves thought it was unsafe. Audi staged a massive recall to: change the bushing materials, shocks, spring rates, front lower control arms, adding a spoiler on the trunk, all to make the car "safer", which I expect for many people (who don't autocross) it may be. I have volumes of paperwork from the prior owner, the dealer, and audi usa, "encouraging" him to take advantage of this free "upgrade", which he fortunately did not. He eventually provided a notarized letter to the dealer and audi usa stating that he did not want the upgrade, and to basically stop bugging him about it. It was a long search to find a documented, undamaged (by the dealer or prior owners) car, but well worth it.

Back on topic- was thinking of maybe heading south from WI and catching the old route 66, and following that south west for awhile. Anyone done that?

What about "the Great River Road" (US-61) along the mississippi to St Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans?

Get a plane ticket, fly to monterey, rent a nice sports car and drive the coast. Check out 17 mile drive and Pebble Beach. Spend the weekend walking the piers, eating at the restaurants and spend a night drinking at Sly McFly's on Cannery Row. beerchug.gif Sandy and I love Monterey. We talk about it all the time. You may get lucky and there will be an event at Mazda Raceway.

Quattro's also have the quattro badge on the front grill right? That was MY clue.. They all handle great! But the quattros are better in weather.. I was mentioning it because the captn had mentioned snow.

I agree with Rick. I love Monterey, been there probably 10 times, but in california its about as nice as it gets for a getaway.

I'm going to be in Olathe, KS the week before our vacation for training, mon to thur. We'll be done by noon thur. Boss suggested I drive down the monday prior with Nancy, she can stay with me in their paid motel, and take the TT and bomb around the area. We could then leave thur noon to get a head start on the vacation... With that as our starting point, we'll be heading to...

The gulf shores, specifically Biloxi, MS, an easy day and a half drive. Thinking of some golf and casino packages. Site seeing. Any other ideas?
