From old water cooled days, generally balanced compression readings, even if 10% or more below specs, were not a really bad thing. But, I'm having trouble with even running/surges/etc at low RPM on a 1.7. Same with FI, dual, and progressive carbs. Readings are 120 across the board, +/- 3 lbs. Injection of oil in cycls doesn't effect readings. Engine is out and on test block, so pulling heads wouldn't be a big task. But is it worth it? Or live with ups and downs?
Compression of 120 is decent butnot perfect. Not at rebuild land though. Check leakdown too while the engine is out. With compression numbers it gives a better impression of the engine.
Check your valves. Make sure the engine is warm and the throttle wide open. All of these things impact compression scores.
