Nic pics. Thanks for sharing.
I just got back from a couple of dragon runs. I was surprised the die hards were not there. Much less traffic and cops at night.
If you get the chance you have to to the foothills parkway just at the end of the dragon on the TN side. Mostly 4th gear sweepers with some awesome overlooks.

It has a very distinct German leather smell.
Different from the usual smell of leather upholstered vehicles.

You sir, are a true gentleman for taking a moment to reply.
Thank you very much for the location as well as about the problem that Ken was having. Always great to have good 914 buds around when trouble pops up.
I hope everyone had a great time.
Is that 914 in your avatar the 914 once owned by John Dunkle of Rennlist fame?
Thanks.

Glad to help you out with your questions.
I am pretty sure everyone enjoyed their time at MUSR11. I personally had a dream weekend. I was given a 914 to drive on Friday (mine is not running) and on Saturday, I spent the day riding around in the 916
I have posted a video and photo and will post more as I have time to edit.
The 914 in my avatar belongs to George Hussey at AA. My LE has a long way to go to look like that

Wrong car. The pearl yellow car was the narrow body car with the 993 motor. I'm not sure of the color of the flared car though. Its the same car in post 104 & 122.

What a GREAT time it was.......My wife's Creamsicle and my 76 made it there and back with no problems. For those of you that didn't make it, if your car had a problem, there would be three guys under the car.....a full set of tools....and spare parts in 2 minutes.....and don't forget, if there was a fire....you would have 40 fire extinguishers at the ready....all the 914 cars were happy because they were doing what they were made to do.......90 degree turns.........

Scotty B.,
Great shots, Thanks for sharing your GREAT photos with us in the 914World.
Sort of curious about the cd someone (who exactly is the owner of the pixs ?) has offered to all of us for $45. Will these photos of Scotty B. and other 914 World teeners who shared their own pixs be on that cd?
That copyrighted photo of Clay driving his 914 needs to be the Poster for this event especially since he and Shoe put their hearts into making it happen for all that went.

I have more pics on my phone I will post if they are any good.
There is also aTON of video as many of us were running our go pros the whole time. There was some discussion about just adding links to our individual tube clips instead of loading up this site. If anyone has a better idea chime in. I can promise you, you will want to see these videos....all but Zach. There was some habitual line crossing going on I am sure
Posted by: scotty b Oct 18 2010, 09:36 AM
Mike it is my understanding that CD is offerd by route129 photos. They setup at various points on the road and take pics. Those pics are then available for purchase from their site. Those will also ONLY be pics form the points they set up on at the dragon, they will not be photos of the rest of out time.
As for our trip, my pics are a very small portion of what was taken. Donalds daughter had over 900 pics on the first day alone !!! Give it a day or two and you guys will have more pics then you care to look at
Posted by: Vacca Rabite Oct 18 2010, 09:41 AM
The US129 site hires photographers and stations them on various corners of the Dragon. Click click click click. Business model is pretty easy. They often have their guys on well known corners so the drivers know where they are going to be. Car guys know that the photo guys are going to be there, and where they are going to be. Photo guys take lots of pics and put them on line. Car guys go to the website and buy the pics of their car. If a club rep get in touch with the photo rep, they put deals like this together. It saves the site money in hosted images and bandwidth and builds goodwill.
But photo's like Scott's won't be on it unless some prior deal has been worked out.

The $45 CD of images is from US129photos.com - a professional photo company that shoots on the Dragon every day. I know the owner and he set up the special deal for our group. If you look at his regular pricing, $45 will get you 10 images on CD. So, for the same price, you are getting in the neighborhood of 2,000 images!!!
He actually just randomly picked the shot of Clay for that page. I told him that was the perfect picture since it was of the event organizer.
Brittany had so many pictures that it took more than one DVD and she only had time to burn a few sets. These will be posted by various people on Flikr accounts, etc and I am guessing links will be supplied.
Posted by: cooltimes Oct 18 2010, 10:25 AM
Thanks Scotty B, Zach and Poorsche914 for the clarity about the cd pixs.
Didn't have a clue until your replies.
As long as I am doing this post, I'll ask, "Are there going to be any text on each photo saying who is in each of the photos shown. Many will be like me wondering whose 914 that is and who are those people in the photos.
With that said, and referring back to Scotty about Donald's daughter photos, I can NEVER see too many 914 pixs no matter if the 914's, their owners and how much they enjoy getting together for these 914world events.
You 914 people ALWAYS keep making each of our days interesting.
That 916 was cool but it took all the 914's to make it GREAT.
Thanks.
MikeCool
PS Special thanks to Sir Andy for the 914world site.

To caption every photo taken would be a colossal undertaking. But I think if the person could add a short caption to each photo he/she posts, that would be nice.

In Photoshop I use Unsharp Mask to sharpen things up a bit when I resize for the web. There may be a similar filter in the program you are using. Just be careful not to over sharpen.

I know this picture was taken from Betty's 914. I recognize the antenna.
Who took it?
Uhh that was taken in your car buddy.
And I took it.
Clay must not quite be awake yet. Betty's car doesn't have flares
Give me a freaking break.. in that picture, the paint looks ORANGE. I didnt' see the flared fender.
2 days driving home in the truck pulling a trailer.. YUK. I don't ever want to trailer a car again.

You can download any or all of them at their full 15 megapixel resolution or buy prints.
209 photos on there right now. I may add a few panoramas if they turn out well.
Here's one.

This is Jamie's very original Delphi green metallic 1973 1.7 with window sticker. His father bought this car new and Jamie has maintained it to as built specification. This car is a time capsule.

Bob, That is a real unique view of Huey.
Here is mine using a Brittney Dragon Tail event photo of Huey.
Mine is a Mosiac view using GIMP. Zoom in close and you can see each stone, probably well enough to clone with some mosiac tile for your patio area.

IS it possible to email a high resolution pic? or post a link? Or do a 2011 MUSR Calendar with these super photos?
Posted by: BigDBass Oct 26 2010, 11:30 AM
You can download the full resolution version from the link Avery posted. I'd upload it here but not sure if that's ok. It's 8.4 megs!
I'm going to order a print of that one to put on my wall. Just debating size and whether I want it framed or just mounted.
Posted by: BIGKAT_83 Oct 26 2010, 01:50 PM
Think I'll order one for myself.
Glad I parked in that spot.

Looks like it was taken with available light (no flash) just a little after sunset judging by the little light around the trees in the background.....

Long exposure at night. You can see the stars in the background.

Also on a tripod....or a VERY steady hand......

I have one complaint about all these pics!!!!! The ones I'm in all show the back of my head highlighting my shinny bald spot!!!!!!!

Thanks for the compliments. You can download the photo from that website at it's full resolution. Just hover over the photo and a box will pop up. Click on "original" and it will load at full size. Then just right click and "save picture as". You can also buy prints at all different sizes from that site or have it printed by someone else. The big ones aren't cheap and I haven't done it yet, so I don't know exactly how good they are.
Certainly not handheld. That is an HDR photo. It is actually three different exposures taken separately and then combined with a software program. It was about 11:30 at night, so not much light for the background stuff. The cars were well lit by the lightpost. One photo was 5 seconds, one was 10 seconds, the last was 20. All were at f/4 and iso 100. The 5 second exposure captures the highlights without washing them out, but the darker areas will be totally dark. The 20 second exposure captures things that are very dark, like the sky behind, but the cars are very overexposed. It's a technique that makes some very striking photos. Oftentimes unrealisticly so. But that is really what it looked like that night. When I saw the two very bright, very different colors side by side under that unique lighting, I went straight to my room and got my camera and tripod. If you wondered what I was doing outside taking pictures at midnight, now you know.
Sometimes they look like crap. You never know until you get on a computer and process them. Here are a couple more I've done that turned out well.

Very nice work, Avery.
I have just started doing the multiple exposure HDR though have some PS filters that work pretty well.

Can any of you photographer types give any guidance about the "lustre" or "metallic" paper options for a SmugMug print of that pic of Avery's? I think I can handle the cropping. (Auto-crop!)
Posted by: poorsche914 Oct 27 2010, 09:10 PM
I'm thinking that will look really cool on the metallic paper.
If there is a manual crop, do that. Auto-crop will just cut off top and/or sides to make it fit the print aspect ratio.

Thanks Steven! Just ordered 11x14 metallic and hopefully my adjusted crop (slid a tad to the right from the auto-crop) works!
It will be hung along with your MUSR poster (and a framed drawing of what my 30 year-old Tennessee mountain maple bonsai should like like in 10 years drawn by 85 year-old Japanese bonsai master Ben Oki!)

Cool. Let us now how it turns out. I have wondered what the metallic prints look like.
