I just checked my exhaust thread, that would be the one where a nice guy melted my brand new Bursch. That was the dark day when my car went on
"THE STAND"
it has now been 70 days since i have driven my 914
I will hopefully have her up by this comming weekend. The exhaust should be on its way back and i am almost done with the sound deading project. I also changed out the pedal cluster, resealed the back window, replaced the 3 piece targa seal, started a stereo project, the list will never end
SELL YOUR JACK STANDS!!!
do not put them under your car. They always lead to bigger projects
How long has it been for you guys. Lets here it....
Yesterday!!:D
7 days.

I haven't driven it since July I got to drive it for just over 30 miles before the engine spun a bearing, before that it sat apart for twelve years damn those jack stands! Today I picked up a parts car that hopefully will have a running motor and I can get it on the road in the next thirty days. That's my goal!

2004
I just drove it out in the yard and took this picture.
Billy drove it too.
Never... damn jack stands! But, I was convinced to fire it up last night. Stank up the whole house
On to the trailer off of the trailer into the garage. And nowits holding down jackstands...
At least 2 years if not more driving any teener, unless sitting the behind wheel and makng vroom vroom sounds counts.
Never I hope to in a couple weeks if the rust gods cut me a break.
Yesterday.
However, the "S" on the engine lid came off and while I intended to just re-attach the "S", I am now in the middle of a complete strip and paint of the engine lid. The car will be down for most of the week.
yesterday
Got home just about two hours ago. Fantastic day today. Rain tomorrow, but it looks like 914 weather again on Tuesday.
Haven't driven mine since July, went on vacation and now im way too busy with school. Haven't even been on the forums much!
It has been a very long time... The only way I could remember how long was to go out to the car and check the last Inspection Sticker.
.
Yeah, it HAS been that long..
About 6 hours. Indeed, it feels like an eternity. But somehow I'll manage. I will be driving it into the garage in about half an hour though, maybe that'll get me through the night. =)
Joe
Since the middle of July. Thanks for reminding me. Its not on jacks though.
I'm pretty sure it was the summer of 1988. But I will be driving it again by May 19th of 2011 (45th b-day present)
Today, twice. Drove it over to my folks house to remove their air conditioners. Damn, she's running good! So good I took it out again around 2:00, it was a perfect day for it. Got back in time to watch the Jets squeak one out.
Joe
Four days ago, in and out of the garage. But it is off the jackstands! I will be selling those very soon. I don't want them to sneak back under the car.
Today! Its close to the end for our season, so sad.
Six days. Thought about taking it out today but it rained!
I've had a good stretch since getting a new fuel pump last month.
Last Friday: Drove to work
Last Sunday: Got in a morning drive
Thursday: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=112082&hl=
Yesterday: Got my first true joyride (twisty back roads) since July, while kids were napping
Today: Took my wife out for a pre-birthday dinner, about 30 miles each way
Between the mechanical shape (almost everything currently works) and waning days of nice weather, I'm trying to do all the driving I can. Tomorrow should be beautiful weather - if traffic isn't too bad I might drive to work again.
Today...I drive it Sunday's.
That is if I'm not working on it.
April 2nd...the day I gave her away to the paint shop. Steadily putting her back together with new parts. Maybe I'll be done by the end of November just in time to put her to sleep until spring....darn it!
Well..........I haven't driven mine since 1989....yup...you read that right. I am hoping for a Christmas 2010 or early 2011 ride.
Yesterday Mt Baldy
August 7th. I took my father in law for a ride in it with the turbo dumping oil into the intake. It still had a nice little punch at WOT, but not like it used to before it started knocking and burnign oil.
It's been over a year. My 2.0 liter lost a valve seat again. Instead of fixing the engine again, I'm finally doing my six conversion.
Bee Jay
Around 2 months for me, hope to be driving the car again soon in the next couple of weeks.
At last ! I'm going to win something - although you may disqualify me on a technicality. I haven't driven mine since the day I bought it - May 20th 1988. The technicality is that I didn't drive it then either as it was - and is - rotten as a pear.
However I am now making progress - the shell is almost completely stripped, I've primered some of it and I'm learning to weld. There'll be a resto thread when I've made some real progress - like stuck something on rather than chiselled it off.
ECC However I am looking forward to Halloween weekend at a driving event. In fact, today I started packing the tools.
Legally? ~ 4 years.
Its been on non op for quite a while. I DO however drive it around the block every 4 months, and I run the engine for 30 minutes every month.
Last time I drove mine was 7/27...
Looking to find a way to have her down in NJ all summer next year. If only I could make my garage bigger...
Last time I drove it further than down the street to see how bad the carbs were working was 3 years ago!!! It was on the trip home from my wedding, since then the passenger door handle, window regulator and carbs have gone kaput. I plan on really attacking this winter and next year...to be reborn as a 6 conversion...anyone in the market for a 2.0 engine with carbs?
I think about 4 years ago, and it was really rough (burned valve, backfiring, overheating, and bad motor and tranny mounts letting things clunk around loudly). Although I've had it since 1995, I've put less than 1000 miles on it in total, I believe.
That's gonna change soon though! It's ready to roll with a new 2056 and other goodies, and will meet me in Rhode Island when I get back to the States in early Nov.
That's my white 914 on McMark's banner ad.
Wow, and here I was feeling sorry for myself since I haven't driven Sparky for the last month. I've been busy chasing down a ground fault - stupid batter pack keeps causing the charger to trip the GFCI.
About 30 minutes....
I am driving mine right now, sitting here waiting on a train to go by.
yesterday, back from MUSR11..drove about 800 miles this weekend!!
I have never been driving both my 914...
They are not drivable yet.
But they will....
My red car has been down for almost a year...... what sucks is that I have everything to get it running
About 10 minutes.....
Yesterday
close to a year now...
Ashamed to say there is nothing really wrong with it, just lost interest for the time being...
Still registered and insured...drove it around to the back of the barn and I start it every so often...
No road time for a long time.
Rich
Thanks for reminding me!!!! It's been at least 4 years for me!
.... never........
About 2 weeks !! A few annoying issues solved, so it will be back out this weekend weather permitting.
Early '90s was the last time I drove my '73. Halfshaft came loose from the CV and bumped the starter; breaking the mounting ear on the gearbox. Father-in-law was going to weld it back (he welded for a living) but after a year he still hadn't gotten to it. I finally got it back and had it repaired but by then the car had sat for too long and I never did get it back together and running. I kept telling myself "next summer, next summer". That car has serious rust issues now and resides in my garage.
About a month.
June, two years ago. Since then total disassembly ,new floors, outer longs, repair inner longs and lower firewall . New closing panel and frame under passenger supension console. Pulled front fender off last night to repair cowl area. I guess the only way to find a rust free 914 is to make one!
Wow, nearly as long as me! I parked 'Lou' in the summer of 1986. I doubt she'll make my 45th birthday in 2012 after sitting this long.
OK you win.
I probably won't make 2012 either - perhaps 2015.
Almost exactly 1 year - which is brutal. I have never had a car, (toy or DD) where I did not address repairs right away. Having something undrivable is driving me nuts.
I am making progress however. Engine compartment is all cut for the oil tank, access panel in the firewall is done. Hopefully will get the oil tank back this week.
Engine needs clutch, flywheel and the -6 engine tins.
Things go very slow when you only have one evening per week to bang stuff out....
... but, I will get there. hoping for this spring/early summer.
It's been just about 13 months since I've driven mine further than around the block.
About to get rid of a car, maybe two, then I'll get on with the fixing of the 914..
Now I know that its a good idea to have more then one
Drove it to work this morning ...
Drove it about 1 month ago at the VIR Potomac PCA DE.
About 3hrs ago
Less than 3 hours ago.
Drove mine again today. Got home two hours ago. The top was off BTW.

This morning... like most days.
Yesterday and I plan on driving it this weekend. The weather is supposed to be in the 70's here this weekend.
Aside from backing it up into the drive way so I don't gas myself idling the car in the garage while I try and tune out my ignition issues, its been about 3 weeks now for me.
If you count backing it up a few feet and the pulling it back forward to put it away, its been a day. But I don't count that. At all. Thats not driving, thats just moving...
Zach
I had a nice 25 minute drive to work this morning. I just hate it when cars in front of me slow down for the curves. I take a country road to work. :-)
Drove it to work at GPR this morning. Light traffic, beautiful clear morning, the Who on the radio.....
Drove my son to Drum lessons across town yesterday. It's raining today, but if it stops I'll use it to take my Daughter to the Orthodontist... this is my life.
Two weeks ago. Got the shifter bushing in the tranny replaced & 2nd gear in now no problem. It loves 85 mph or so.
I have *never* driven my 914
This afternoon.
I'm going to have to change mine to.
"How long has it been since you towed your teener"
In that case it isn't so depressing (oh wait yes it is )
Monday night I towed my newest one home. A good 3 hours behind my Excursion. Although I flat towed it so I could not even enjoy seeing it in my rear view mirror.
I drove mine the day before yesterday and I will probably take it to work Saturday morning.
Man drove the white chick today very nice with my new g&r buy
also stop by brag shop saw this thing. guess what movie it was in
couple of hours ago
will be driving it tomorrow for a quick drive up the peninsula to a professional meeting.
2 Years, 11 months.
Hopefully back on the road over the next couple months.
New paint, rebuilt engine and more!!
Im already getting siked up for my ride home in 1 hour
Once again i have my daily driver back. One hour from York PA to Baltimore. And then again in the evening. The only thing that could be better than driving your 914 after a looooong downtime is.....
seeing another 914 while driving your 914. This has never happend yet. Not by chance anyway. (Zach doesnt count)
I will quote a member who shall remain nameless,
" Like a Jag you will need more than one to be in a Teener on demand."
Just for the record , about 3 minutes.
JT
~ 4 years now. What's worse is I haven't driven my DD Volvo in almost as long Starting to get tired of driving my 8000 pound crew cab truck to work everyday. It sucks parking it at the grocery store on the way home.
Steve
Never! she did not run when I got here about 2 years ago. Getting worked on by SSW914 right now and he says he will never finish it so we will have to see. Mark B is working on it for about 3 hours tomorrow ans swears it will be ready to go after that.......... except for the work Steve needs to do.

It is 21 degrees outside and I am about to go drive it to work and the heat isn't hooked up! Brrrrrr.......
I didn't realize it go that cold in Tennessee.
I'm leaving in an hour in my 914, but it's 33 degrees. I won't use the heat. Although my heat works 75%, it doesn't work well unless I crack a window also. And it stinks of oil so I don't even like to use it when the top is on. I drove mine yesterday too. Almost took the top off, but it was a cloudy, cool 55 degrees when I left work and I was in a hurry to get home anyway.
Does driving my wife's 914 count? If so, then last night.
Mine, on the other hand, has not been driven since MUSR 11. I have been busy with work, and it leaks oil like a sieve.
drove mine 2 weeks ago. I'm not as hard core as HotShoe. It going to be a high of 29 today, and that is just too cold for a car with no heat.
Zach
A balmy 26ยบ here in Baltimore and about to head out on my Sportster. Fuck the cold,,,Gerbings rock (they work in cars without heat too).
November 28, 2010
Now the ? for me is when will i be able to drive it again. End of March or April.
I drove Steve Willie's black 914 in SLO about 8 months ago.. Dad's car will be online soon?
