914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Frontend height WITH flares???

Posted by: Kerrys914 Apr 10 2003, 01:02 PM

I have glass flares on my '73 and need to set the height of the frontend. The PO installed rack spacers so he must of had it low.??

Since flare heights can vary from instal to install is there another location I can use to get a starting point height?

Since the height affects the alignment I don't want to het it aligned until I have the height someone correct, if not 100% correct.

Someone please measure you flared car for me beerchug.gif at Hershey if you do aktion035.gif

I believe the factory manual says to measure the ride hieght from the bottom of the steering rack to the ground.... it is either the steering rack or the A arm not sure but one of those locations

Let the alignment shop set the ride height. Your paying them.

I use the bottom lip on the inside of the wheel well.

Its easier for them to measure it when its on the rack.

I also use the lip at the very bottom of the valance on the back side of the fenderwell.

I don't think the alignment shop gets too many 914's. The best I can do is a Porsche shop. 914's are VERY rare out here in Virginia. In the past 2+ years since I have ownd my 914 I have seen two 914 on on the road.

Most shops are " You have a 914 what?" That kinda makes me want to run like Forest smile.gif

I am picking up some simple home alignment tools to see if I can do an align ment myself. We'll see???????

So if I take the factory height setting and lower 1/2"-1" I should I be fine?

I am going to Hershey this year and one of my tasks is to measure 914s smile.gif

You should be fine.

We are a little jaded here... all the Porsche shop have 2-3 914's in them at all times.

I'll measure a couple of cars for you that I have sitting here. One of them sits real nice for a street car and doesnt scrape going everywhere.

Check back in an hour or so.

I believe that factory measurement is center line of the torsion bar...It is a PITA to do it this way, but would assure you that any body work mods would not influence your measurements.

there is a great Race shop in Vienna VA...
They, as brad have several 914's...

Also, check your regional PCA group, I know there are several 914 racers in VA and two Guru,s nearby...

Brad, Love the flag,,,cant decide..mmmmm stripes or stars....

OK.

13.25 for the rear and 11.50 for the front. This was done on a street car sitting around here that is pleasant to drive and doesnt rattle your teeth.

See pic below for the area that I measured to/from.

No. I didnt measure the car in the pic. I just used it for the good side shot.
