914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Just how fast are F1 cars ?

This is the differential of car velocities and the different line that the F1's take in comparison to the FIA cars. The F1 drivers need the reflexes of a Raptor jet pilot.

Wow, what a difference in speed. It's well known that F1 cars are amongst the fastest in the world. That is a good comparison of the difference.

Isn't the GT3 slowed down? Looks slow to me?

This is on Pelican too. I think the F1 footage has been doctored.

Doctored at 100%. type.gif

Also, the corner doesn't match up (they aren't overlaid very well). That makes it look like the F1 car is taking a much straighter line through the curve.

F1 vs FIA GT isn’t a very fair match up in any decade. F1 vs LMP 900 would make a lot more sense. And that’s without the whole sprint vs endurance aspect.

That kind of looks like a 914 in yellow at the 24 or 25 second mark

This is a great vid showing the speed differences...

This is a quote from the Pelican OT thread....

"Looking more closely at the two videos, the GT footage is through a normal lens while the F1 is through a wide angle lens. The reason the F1 cars appear so much faster when entering the frame is because of the "fisheye" affect of that lens. If the images are cropped to only show what is captured in the center of the lens, say from about the left hander to the top of the hill, the difference isn't nearly as shocking. Very pronounced, indeed, but nothing like that first entry into the viewing frame suggests."

That is absolutely correct. The first video was a badly botched job when it came to the overlay. It looks like they where shot from two different locations, different zoom, etc. Here is a better one in which they try to adjust for the differences. It does a better job of matching the track and background. In this version you see that the difference in speed between the F1 and Proto cars is not as great...
