winner wins bragging rights only
Last one went for 10K. Thats my bid
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=623.1&aid=403&pop=1
so at $10k - how much profit is there?
$2000 for car + $7000 for resto + $1000 to BJ + etc = loss
Barrett-Jackson
$74,500
Oops! $7450
11500.
$15,000 ...
$15.001.00
Black bumpers, black wheel well finish (should be bdy color) 1.8 liter, radio and glove box door missing.
unknown chassis mileage or miles since rebuild?
I would go as high as $10.5 but it may sel las high as $14,000
Rear quarter panel looks pulled for tire clearance. $ 12.500.00 normally, this economy... $ 10.200.00 maybe.
$18k if it has fuel injection, $12K if it has carbs.
8500
With the "new" recovered seats and new carpet, the least they could have done was get a new Mikey's Shift Knob.
$12,375
I like the black 'appearance group' bumpers. What do you figure the red button beside the ingition is?
$9500
Here's a list of some of the past 914 at BJ ...

$7,200
In the past as most of you have seen the Porsche community is not loved very much on Barrett Jackson. Unless you have something extremely rare and have the proper credentials, records and provenance the cars do not bring much. I have seen some great 911 & 930's literally given away or what Bob Varsha calls "well bought". 1974 1.8 - I would guess it would not bring over 8K. Those guys know what to look for.
my 02.
Vysoc
$9k
$6K if it sells
Yeah, I know I'm a CASOB
$6200 My bid
At BJ the bidders are looking for perfect cars. Those are the ones that
get the top dollar, not perfect just quickly get pushed through and sold.
$7,200. Unfortunately it's not a 2.0, the interior "restoration" didn't use the right materials, and it's still rough around the edges (missing glovebox door, missing speaker enclosures, missing radio, ...) I bet this had an aftermarket stereo w/ door mounted speakers at one time that was removed during the restoration but the completeness of the restoration is questionable given simple things like the speaker enclosures were not addressed. Hard to tell from limited pictures what the rest of the car looks like and if there was good attention to detail.
im saying it will sell for $11000 ( not that its worth that), a year or two ago i saw a conversion 911 slantnose (and not a very good one ) sell for $40000+ way more then it was worth, i had just traded my nicely done slantnose conversion for a 1966 mustang fastback and thought i should have brought it to barrrett, just shows something sell for more then its worth if two people want it bad enough
They also have a '58 Porsche Tractor on the list. And what is the red button?
To funny. I supplied David with the is 74 1.8 914 that they are selling at BJ. I supplied him with a lot of really great parts. David is known for his attention to detail. Thats what he does best. You could eat off the floor of his shop. If you ever get to the PDX area, it would be worth a stop at his shop on 7th and Couch.
David did not spare any effort on this 914. You should have seen it before he got it,when it was at CAMP. Wish I had some pics.
Anyway I say $10000-12500.
Craig at CAMP
I'm flying to AZ today & will be at Barrett Jackson Tues & Weds. Looking forward to checking this 914 out. I'm not sure I will recognize a 914 that's not in a thousand pieces like mine
My guess is $9500
looks like it goes off mid-day Thursday. Anyone in attendance that day, maybe you could update us during sale? I will try to follow on internet, but will probably get distracted by work, work work. I hope it goes for good money.
Craig at CAMP,
I don't know the restorer you are referring to, and I'm not trying to throw stones, BUT,
if he is known for attention to detail, why not complete this car correctly before auction?
I agree, it would embarass me to sell a incomplete car at a big auction like bj. It's kinda like giving up and pushing it out the door in disgust.
8750 Only if the paint is really good and the gaps are straight and the mileage is less than 80k.
The pics that you are looking at from BJ were taken the day I was there. That was one month before the car was loaded on the trailer and taken to Scottsdale.
The car was far from complete and to bad it shows in these pics.
When it left there were many more parts added and the car was complete!

What's the Winner of our Poll get?
Going once, Going twice -
I'd rather have a Bugeye Sprite ... it's a rusty POS too!
I hope type47's FI bid wins. It will be good for all of us.
Thursday is bargin day at the auction been to three of them and that is when they put the low value cars no the stage. Every once in a while o great value
slips thru but thursday is junk day
$12800
Craig replied and you are correct. Pics are not current.
But again, If I want top dollar for a restoration and I'm willing to pay BJ Auction their cut, I would want the very best pics possible on the web. I am sure buyers there in person will now see that it is complete and probably correct. But I would want the internet chat before the auction to be upbeat as well.
Lets keep our fingers crossed for this one and hope he gets a good price.
McCrmicks Auction here in Palm Springs sold one last year for over $10k, that should only have fetched $6k at the most. It needed a lot. It all depends on who is in the room at the time.
AND.
the 1964 Beetle went for $15,400!! There is money in the room.
$14,500... its yellow...
Just spoke to David, the 914 goes across the block Thursday morning.
Craig at CAMP
My friend says the 59 corvette he built a few years ago is also there. 1321.1 It is for sale by the second owner.
9975
The car has some issues, but it is clean. Carpet looks wrong. Radio missing. Strange ignition button, stranger cluster button on the right side of the console. Is the glove door up or missing? Obviously this is a good restorer, but are the numbers matching?
Ground ups seem to be losing their appeal, or am I wrong when the numbers don't match or have a COA? Did not read the whole ad. I am still trying to go to sleep tonight.
Wheels were polished. Instant boner for concours, but a lot of people like them.
74 1.8 is still a hard sell to a big dough collector. They want a 6, and if there is a clean low miles 2.0L, maybe a sale there, but even a good one is only 15k now, and 15K can still buy you issues with a nice driver.
This car would have been 17 to 22k to a Japanese or Euro collector in 2007. Not thinking like that now, are they?
Maybe 10675 because it is not original but a ground up?
This is my final offer on that Hot Wheels 914!
Is it Signal Orange?

Spoke to David last night. Two of the five cars that he took down to BJ, did really well. The Porsche 914 goes across the block today at @ 11 am.
To bad it won't make the Speed show, but there is alway streaming video.
Good luck to all who bid, I hope it goes high.
Craig at CAMP
Where can you watch streaming video? All the links on the BJ website say streaming doesnt start until 5pm tonight
Here's the link to the car page. Guess we just wait until "Sale Price" shows up?

SOLD! $15,500!!!!
wow $15500
URY914 $15000.01
Closest with out going over.
I was worrried cuz a few cars went very cheap before it. Muscle cars. But then the TR6 and the Beetle sold well. .
I wonder how much of the 15,500. does the seller go home with ?
Dave
BJ charges buyer a 10% premium and the seller a 5% percent, I think.
So buyer is paying $17050 for the car, and seler pockets, $14725. BJ gets $2325
for $17000 you can buy a really nice 1973 2.0
$8600
nice thread guys, that was fun to read. $15,500, wow
Great 73 Orange 914 with new shift knob. $14000. Write me a check today. Drive it home Today and save the auction fees!
Beck 550 went for $44,000! those are overpriced on Ebay at $25K! That buyer REALLY wanted it.
Maybe the new owner will chime in here.
8% seller fee, and 10% buyer premium. 18% per sale, hard not to make money.
Great publicity for increasing the value of our cars.
Absolutely! It also helps that it was the ONLY 914 for sale at BJ this week. If you look at values for some cars, the prices vary wildly when there are more than two listed at the same auction. Corvettes and Camaros are an example.
It seems that the American muscle cars are down in price, or holding from the last year or two. LOTS of pickups on the auction market, which are increasing.
And overall, European or British cars are increasing quickly. Anything that could be bought for less than $15k a few years ago has doubled now.
Great price. I wish we could see what it goes for when this investor sells it.
I just got a phone call that the buyer is a Indy 500 winner who lives in the area.
CCL
Indy 500 winner 1980...
Cool. I met him once at Daytona 24 hour race. I'm sure me remembers me.
