914World.com _ 914World Garage _ front cooler install begins

Posted by: moparrob Feb 19 2011, 08:04 PM

Today I tackled one of the most painful projects to date - tearing out the metal shelf for the front trunk spare cover. It was in the way of where my RX-7 cooler needs to mount so out it came.

It was painful because I could not cut the spot weld below the headlight assembly, so I basicall used an air chisel to rip the metal out.

Here is the shelf with the spot weld cut:

Here is the same area with the shelf removed:

And this is the torn up sides which will need to be repaired:

Now it is on to designing and fabricating the cooler mounts....

Is this on a type 4? I am curious if it is not too long of a distance for a stock oil pump with a 'sandwich' adapter.

No, I've got a 3.0 from a '79 SC that is going to be installed, along with the stock 914-6 oil tank, RX-7 cooler and a Mocal thermostat.
