914World.com _ 914World Garage _ picked up my new (to me) suspension pieces today

Posted by: SirAndy Apr 29 2004, 08:20 PM

smilie_pokal.gif (will get pics tomorrow)

i got myself:

- 2 prestine (un-bent!) 914 rear trailing arms
- all the hardware to do a rear 911 e-brake conversion
- a 914 steering rack that doesn't have ANY play
- turbo tie-rods
- 2 prestine (un-bent!) 911 front A-Arms
- a very clean 914 steel cross-member

all the 911 parts came off a '87 911 carrera.
all 914 parts came of a '75 914.

now all i have to do is to drop it off at brad's tomorrow and have him weld on the U-Tabs and 911 e-brake mounting and then off to the powder-coater!

finally, i "might" be able to get my suspension aligned correctly!

And where does one find such perfect rear trailing arms?

Did someone win the lottery? It couldn't be a tax refund because we all know you don't pay taxes.

decided to skip the pretty powdercoating and just throw the parts on the car today (after a nice steam-cleaning) ...

sooo, i went down to HPH and paid brad to watch me put everything on my car. wink.gif ) brake pads in the front.
- "rule of thumb" alignement
- new (this time for real) 180 lbs progressive springs in the back
- new bump-steer-kit

still need to get a real alignment done, the car moves to the right (a lot!) if i let go of the steering wheel, also, it seems a caliper rebuild is in order as the right front seems to have a sticky piston.

but steering is very tight now, NO play what-so-ever, immediate response from the suspension. that's good!

brakes seem more balanced now too, need to brake in those new pads before i can really tell ...

feels like i'm getting closer after all rolleyes.gif

thank you Brad (and rich and HPH and britain)

the car ...

strange thing, the pass. side rear is about 1/2" lower than the drivers side altough everything is set up the same.
i did, however, adjust the front so the pass. side would be lower (1/4") than the driver side when empty (without my 210lbs heavy ass).

would that throw off the rear that much?

i set the front so it would be even with ME in the seat. wink.gif

Andy...NICE.

That car looks bold.

I'll be doing a full suspension upgrade this month also. Can't wait.

If you'll be at the GGR A/X tommorow I'd like to sneak-a-peek.

I'll be there after 4:00.If you are running fun runs I'll take some action shots.

RUN HARD!
