I drove around last weekend for 90 minutes or so and I started having trouble getting
the transmisssion into fourth gear. I would go over all the way then up and I would be
in second. If I went into neutral and worked the shifter back and forth, then I could
carefully get into fourth again. Once there, it would go right into fifth.
Today, with the car cold, it would go right into fourth no problem. I have never
experienced this before even on long drives.
Any ideas what is going on?
Thanks,
John
No one has any ideas???
Trans mounts?
Check the basics. Inspect bushings and mounts first just to be sure.
John, is this the box that you rebuilt at the clinic?
I agree with the above, check the basics first. There is a list in the 31 pages of notes link in my sig. For it to get harder is odd.
Yes, this is the box I built at your atlanta clinic.
It has worked perfectly for over 1000 miles until this week.
I'll check the bushings and stuff.
Could I need a rotational adjustment at the firewall junction?
Thanks,
John
Problem solved: the cone screw at the firewall junction had backed out. My
shift rod was flopping around loosely.
Now its all good except for the plate in my head rattling.
John
It is always a good idea to have a NEW spare handy at all times. The nylon button is almost a one-use affair. I think everyone that puts on a lot of miles will have it come loose sooner or later.
