So I am ready to throw my socket organizer out. It only supplies room for one socket of each size. I have 4-5 of the common sizes and 2-3 of the others.
What do you use to keep the organized for quick access and clean up?
Maybe like the inside of a tackle box with a bunch of equal sized compartments you could label?
One of you out there is way smarter than me and has it figured out.
Don't need no stinkin' organizer, I have a whole trunk
for on the road fixes? not much... a few wrench sizes ,screwdriver , allen keys, flashlight and a couple small replacement parts for fuel or vaccum leaks, maybe an ignition switch if your going over 1000 miles or if your not comming back for months... a little more..
Should of specified in your garage, roller toolboxes.
That doesnt bother you rolling arround in your trunk like that?
^^^ not my tools but I use that type of rack for my wrenches.
I evicted the wrenchs to a peg board. The main issue is if I run to my toolbox to grab a socket there are two storage options I have found.
1. Rail not marked hard to know what size you are grabbing however you can hold as many of each size as you want, and you dont know how far to go in each direction to hit the next size, and cleanup takes longer looking for the correct place for each size. (current system)
2. Socket tray orgnizers, only allow for one of each size, what do I do with my other 200 sockets? What about my spark plug and deep drives?
Sounds like you need a bigger box.
I have all the regular tools on maganet rails on my kart. Then everything else is in my tool box. You may need to have a seperate drawer for SAE and metric. I can fit all my sockets in the top drawer but since I have 80+ metric wrenches I keep the Metric in one drawer and SAE in another.
Keeping everyhting I use simi regularly on a kart really helps keep everything organized.
For keeping the sockets organized I have each set in their own deal. If I need a deep they are all together. Semi deep, shallow, swivel...all together. With a big top drawer it makes it easy to do.
I use a chart to keep my tools organizsed.
Here is an example:
I have tried the full tray, they suck. Then I got this

I love the thing. All other weird/different sockets go on a old school rail.
Wrenches go on this

I like the Molded Plastic blocks from MatCo that have a Magnet on the bottom. That way they are organized in your box or stuck on the side of your car

These are exactly what I use. They even make some for swivel sockets.

Looks like HF makes something similar now. Don't know if they are as nice though.
