914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Head to HE seal

Posted by: ELLIOTT Apr 9 2011, 07:54 PM

I finally got some time to do the push rod tube seals and address what I think is an exhaust leak. So in doing this what tricks or advise would you give for installing the copper seals for the HE's to head. Those copper seals dont like to stay perched on the HE as it is being bolted up.

thanks

aneal them first, and just a touch of copper exhaust paste.. that from a 914 mechanic and shp.. also if your heat them they enlarge and put them up warm may help them stay a second..

heat them on the stove until they are red and let them cool slowly. I use a dab of grease to hold them in the head.

I rotate them slightly in the recess. That holds them in well enough for me to get the exchanger in place.

agree.gif Anneal the copper gaskets, then a dab of grease between the gasket and the head holds them in place quite well..
