914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Help needed-74 914 ignition switch removal

Posted by: PBC914 May 3 2011, 01:34 PM

I pulled the steering wheel, removed the four screws and slid the column with the turn signal/washer/wiper out, removed a hex nut, and still cannot slide the ignition switch out. I can slide it 1/8" but it seem like there is another part I need to remove. What am I missing?

This is from memory, and its been a while (and i'm old), so I may be wrong, but I think there is a release in a little hole close to the nut you removed. Push it with a small screwdriver, and pull on the switch. Hope thats it, if not, Crusty's gonna scold me!!!!!

You do need the key in the switch to remove it... At least I did....

Thanks everyone. I ended up having to pull the four hex nuts under the dash holding the steering column and pulled it out. I tapped off the out cover, and then everything fell apart and was able to insert a new ignition switch, which solved my problem of not being able to turn the key.
